    I have never worn a fitness bracelet before but I have the opportunity to pick up one of the following;

    Fitbit - Alta
    TomTom Touch (Large or Small)
    Fitbit FB408SBKL Alta HR Large
    Fitbit FB408SGYS Alta HR Small
    Fitbit - Charge 2 Gunmetal Large
    Fitbit - Charge 2 Gunmetal Small
    Garmin Vivosmart Fitness Watch - Regular with HRM

    What would you recommend?

    I guess I just want it for general fitness monitoring.

    It depends what you want it for.
    The difference between the large and small in the fitbits above is just the size of the wrist band so that is not relevant to the performance of the device.
    I have the Charge 2 and I find it quite good. It does sleep tracking aswell as steps and activity monitoring.

    Yeah I'd second this. I have the charge 2 and find it a decent all around monitor.

    Definitely a Charge 2 from that list. I had one for about a year. Wore it all day every day as an activity monitor. Only took it off to swim. I'd recommend a dark coloured strap. I went for teal and it was disgusting by the time I stopped using it. Have now switched to Garmin 920xt with HRM because I'd gotten into Triathlon and wanted to track swim and Tri as well. I'm smitten with all of the metrics I get back from the Garmin :P It is expensive though. Bought mine on sale for $330 :eek:

    I had the charge and now the charge 2. I still use the garmin for running but enjoy the fitbit.

    My charge had problems and their replacement service is excellent.

    The charge 2 is handy as you can change the straps so they don't stink so got an exercise strap too (on amazon). You can now get nice looking evening or fancy day options.

    Use alcohol wipes if it does stink after exercise.

    I have the charge 2, and tbh the lack of waterproofing sucks , having to take it off for swims and showers is a nusiance

    I highly recommend the Charge 2. I use it everyday and have had no problems!

    Xiaomi mi fit. Costs ~24 euros, if you are not syncing it to your phone all the time can go as far as 1 month without recharging, counts steps, measures heart-rate, sleep quality and works as a watch. The app is super powerful too.

    Have u just tried the my fitness pal app?? It tracks your steps and you can log your food for the day, and it gives u an estimate of what your daily calorie intake should be. I have a Fitbit and never really used it as I kept forgetting it, but I always have my phone on my so I found it handier. Just a thought!!

    I recently bought one of these for my mother, it is very impressive, the app is very good, seems to do everything the fitbit does at a fraction of the price, this is what I would be buying

    I had a fitbit flex. Several things I disliked about it:

    * The wrist band would cause itching/irritate my skin after 2-3 days
    * Strap was not very secure
    * Wrist band was shorter (lost my first fitbit on the day of purchase, though to be fair, fitbit sent me a new one free of charge after spending 1 month bothering them about the quality of the wrist band)
    * Step counting only

    I can't be bothered to pay this much for just a branded fitness gadget. I have to say though, I'm a xiaomi fanboy and have other products from them as well. They are trying to be the apple of asia.

    Does (or can) the miband track heart rate all day/ overnight? I'm more interested to track resting heart rate, and I'm always up and moving and crashing around getting dressed in the dark before I remember to do manual/ phone app options in the mornings...

    The only thing it's missing is the gps, I record my cycles with it. Phones in the bag and just press go on the charge and it starts recording

    I have the charge 2 and really like it. However if I'd known they were bringing out the Alta with HR feature, I might have waited for that.

    I second the getting a dark strap and getting one for exercise. And cleaning it regularly. My first strap practically disintegrated after 6 months because I didn't clean it often enough. The customer care service was amazing though & sent me a new one out no problem. You can get replacement bands in varying colours and metal as well on amazon for not too much.

    I have a nokia/withings steel hr, expensive but ticks all the boxes I wanted. Wanted a fitness tracker that didnt look like a fitness tracker, long battery life and waterproof. i.e. be able to put it on and forget about it for weeks on end.

    I see that a lot of the the Irish 'influencers' have been whisked off to Spain to try out the new Fitbit.

    It does look like a giant leap forward in fairness from what i have seen.
