Cape Clear getting a Pontoon

On a recent visit the inner harbour (of North Harbour) is drained and being dredged. I was talking to the project engineer - another ribber whose boat I overnighted alongside - and they're piling it deep into the bedrock to put in a pontoon.

So if you're planning a visit, the inner harbour is out of action meaning in good weather berthing space could be a challenge but next year it's going to be an even more attractive place for a visit

Heard about that as well, it will be a fantastic improvement.

Pity there's only one pub left on the island :D

I actually got vertigo going into the harbour years ago.. it was so strange to be able to see the crabs walking around 60 ft down!

After putting in for an unscheduled overnight because the weather turned to ****e, I'm sitting in that Pub but O'Driscreoils is open again. There was a fundraiser for the RNLI there today. Bacon and cabbage for a tenner, How Irish is that? 100% to the RNLI.
The inner harbor is piled and reflooded but when I went in there are no mooring signs as it's still a construction site.
The pontoon will be much more extensive than the Mickey mouse Schull effort. The ferry can now berth in the inner harbor after the dredging so should take keel boats too.

I saw it a couple of days later and they told us the pontoons were going to be delivered shortly. Happy days!
