Starting to look at this myself in the next few months. I'd be looking at a rack, a good barbell, about 250kg in steel weights and a set of dumbbells up to ~40kg. Probably the adjustable ones since dumbbell racks are super expensive!

    What's your setup look like?

Have you used it as intended or did it turn into an expensive storage/clothes drier?

Did it cost much when you got what you wanted in the end?

I spotted a used squat rack with built in cable for lat pulldowns and curls on donedeal in the debths of the recession, it came with a bench and 120kg of weights, the whole lot was around €500, definitely worth the money. I used to be a regular gym goer before the kids came along but found it hard to justify going after work and arrive home when kids were in bed so at least with the rack in the shed I could squeeze a workout in here and there.

Now the kids are a bit older I've joined a gym again as I find it easier to go to the gym after work and have it done before going home, plus ill admit the atmosphere in a gym is better than training at home on your lonesome. I will always keep the home gym for backup though.

The only other thing id like to add to my home setup is a set of adjustable dumbbells, I have the ones that you add or remove plates to, but would love to upgrade to the ones where you turn a knob for different weight, just cant justify the 400-500 price tag

I'm back to the home gym again after a year in a great gym in Cork (fitnessworx - lovely spot!)

Fancied a change of scenery and I've taken up rock climbing as well, so I'm going back to my trusty old kettlebells and bodyweight workouts again for the winter.

My gym at the moment consists of pairs of 16, 20, 24kg bells, a single 28kg, a set of rings (used in conjunction with the smallies swingset :-) ) and a skipping rope. More than enough equipment to get some quality work in. Throw in some sprints, climbing and a bit of cycling every now and then and I'm set.

Mostly train in the am before work, outdoors when possible. I have the option as well to workout in work - open up the warehouse door and there's a nice space to train out of - perfect for blowing off a bit of steam at lunchtime.

A home gym is my dream. Have a concrete block shed that is a little dilapidated (roof has holes) and only used for storing gardening stuff, but has a concrete floor along with lighting and plumbing. Plenty of room for a squat rack and possibly a cable machine.

Just need to save up for a new roof, new door and some form of damp proofing. And that's before I even get to the equipment :(
