Champions League First playoff round, Game 2
    Liverpool lead 2-1 on aggregate
    Kick off 19:45
    Anfield, Liverpool

    Liverpool Team News:
Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne are all out.

    Hoffenheim Team News:
For Hoffenheim, it looks like they've got no new injuries to report.

    Interesting Stats:
Statistically, Liverpool have a 94% chance of progressing after their first-leg result.

The Reds have never conceded two goals in a Champions League play-off qualifying match, this being their 18th.

If Daniel Sturridge features, it will be his first Champions League appearance since a late cameo from the bench for Chelsea at Benfica in March 2012.

Celtic were away, and they don't do very well on the road Europe.

    I'm quietly confident.

I predicted we would win the first leg, so I will predict the same tonight!

    2-1, Firmino and Mane!

Some going to have played 17 play off games when the round was only introduced in the 2009-10 season :pac:

I am guessing they are counting all the qualifying rounds as a play off round and Liverpool did have 6 of those games in the 2005-06 season

We'll squeak through, losing 0-1 on the night with the them hitting the bar in the 5th minute of injury time.

My optimism will evaporate precisely at kick off.

  • Anyone a price on Hoffenheim to qualify?

They're odds on. Liverpool are really up against it. It'll be a miracle if we qualify. I'd say Hoffenheim are about 1/16 to go through.

    I was expecting 1/20 myself, that's a class price.

    Awful.

9/1 best price with bet365. Big difference.

I had it at 7/1 or 8/1 at a guess.

BTTS, just can't see Liverpool losing.
Too much going going forward to compensate for the obvious concession of a goal from a set piece because of the deluded fascination with zonal marking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Henderson to restore the fans faith in him by scoring a screamer.

Henderson to then restore the fans despair in him by directly contributing to four Hoffenheim goals.

We should score at least two tonight.
I don't think they're mugs but hopefully we convert our chances.
The big question is who starts at LB for me. I don't think he'll go with Robertson which is why I want Millner there tonight.
There will probably only be one of our specialist left-footed LBs in the squad.

Is it not a bit bizarre that Moreno is getting the nod in these crunch games, when he barely played a minute last season?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Oh why Moreno?

Same defence and midfield that were absolutely brutal last week, not happy about that.

Only logical reason I can think of is that Millie is the only genuine midfielder left on the bench - presumably when Hendo has another anonymous game he'll get brought on in the second half...

    Is Grujic injured?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,895 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Should've started Jimmy over hendo and had Robertson at lb. Other than that, it's as expected

Did Robertson exceed his touch total for the week on Saturday, or what's the craic? How is Moreno back in the team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Also, is Gruijic injured? Having three defenders on the bench seems excessive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

That's unexpected for me, one of Grujic and Woodburn would have been a better balance unless Kloop is thinking of positional tweaking later on - drop in Robertson and push Moreno into a winger role for one of Mane/Salah. I dunno. Including Gomez is excessive either way.

Robertson looked tired after 65 minutes at the weekend, we will probably see him against Arsenal.

Watching the build up on RTE 2. Every time they show a clip of us attacking I think how can we lose and when they show us defending I see us going out. Whole season of this to look forward to?

I suspect Dunphy could potentially be ecstatic and triumphant should Liverpool "bottle it" tonight
