French army on the scene. They have warned people to stay clear of the port area. Looks like the car rammed two bus stops and at the moment one person has been murdered.

    Murdered, definitely not an accident?

The car hit two bus stops and the police and army are on the scene. They've also warned people to stay away from the port area. Hardly an accident.

Yes, because a car ramming into multiple bus stops sounds like an accident. :-/

Could be someone that fell asleep behind the wheel or just blind drunk. Wait until its confirmed what happened before speculating in fairness.

Officers spotted the vehicle in the Vieux Port area of the city, where they arrested the driver, a 35-year-old man known to the police for “acts of minor delinquency”.

BFMTV reported that the vehicle was a stolen Renault Espace and that the driver was said to have “psychological problems”. Police advised locals and tourists to keep away from the area.

TBH with everything that's happening in Europe at the moment, anything like this will likely be met with police and the army, until proven that it isn't an attack, so I wouldn't read too much into them being there. Until we know more, at least.

Awfully unlucky to fall asleep to crash into a bus stop, wake up to drive on before falling asleep crashing into yet another bus stop. Not to mention not noticing that he hit someone. Poor guy, hope he is ok.

Yeah I mean what could be worse.

Perhaps being a 7 year old kid on a holiday minding your own business enjoying yourself only to be run over.
Or maybe even the dad of a 7 year old.

Just imagine spending 22 hours on a plane not knowing if your 7 year old is one of the victims and then when you get off the plane you have to go to the morgue to see if your son is there and then to the hospital to visit his mother.

    Very uncomfortable.

my reading of it was that it was the same car a few miles apart and at different times,so maybe he had narcolepsy

Maybe but religion is a choice. It's not like you can't help what religion you are. Catholics have to deal with people querying the negative aspects and plenty of them chose to leave the religion because they couldn't reconcile themselves to that. It is a choice.

A man suspected of ramming his white van into two bus stops in the southern French city of Marseille, killing a woman, is being treated for psychological problems, officials said.
The suspect, who has not been identified by name, is 35 years old and from the Grenoble region in eastern France, a press official for police headquarters in Marseille said.
The official said specialists were going over the van for clues about the suspect's motives as he was being questioned.
Police and forensic experts in white suits took evidence from the bus stop.
The glass walls of the bus stop where the woman was killed were shattered.

No because as an earlier post pointed out in the thread its a local man with issues that is known to the police that done it.

    Makes a change I suppose.

Now I wonder if the perp could be tied into extreme right.

I would say some of the usual suspects around here are disappointed that it wasn't an accident, as after all the numbers mowed down by crazed islamic terrorists has been creeping up on the numbers in traffic accidents over the last few days.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions yet. I'm waiting on further news before rushing to change my Facebook picture to show my solidarity with the people of Marseille.

    Nope..

Because that's not the way the first world transmits and digests news information anymore.

People seem to have serious issues wrapping their heads around the fact that somebody can do something completely independently or just generally because they're a bit mental.. Everyone has to be labelled with a identifying badge or that their actions were following the agenda of a group of people that fall into a nice little identifiable box.

He's just angry it wasn't an islam attack.

    No I am not.

But don't you worry your little head there will be another islam attack coming to some more innocent people in some other town/city quite soon.
You see that is the thing, they are never ending now, they are becoming fooking normal.
And that is what angers me.

Hell we have politicians as good as telling people it is to be expected when living in modern European cities.

I can't remember a politician uttering those same sentiments when home grown old fashioned independence and self determination seeking European terrorists were blowing up bombs in European cities.
