Route has changed for this since I ran it as the national half back in 2011 - hoping to get down this year if I recover ok from Ironman.

    http://www.waterfordachalf.com/

    Route

Waterford AC do a great job with this race, free entry for elites.
    Elite and Sub Elite Entries

Elite/Sub Elite entries are free of charge. Elite entries will be accepted up to 28th November.

All elite entries are dependent on approval by the Waterford AC Half Marathon Committee. Proof of your qualifying time may be required.

The standards are set at Men Sub 73 and Women Sub 85. Times must have been set in the last 2 years for the half marathon distance.

To apply for an elite entry complete the Elite Registration form on the registration page

    and TRANSFERS!!!! :D:D:D
You will be able to transfer your entry via our designated process only.

Transfers have frequently caused problems with prizes in the past and it is very unfair when genuine prize winners do not receive the credit they deserve on the day. At Waterford AC we understand that sometimes circumstances change. For this reason we have introduce an official transfer process.

Transfers will be available until 28th November. Please note that if you race pack is sent prior to completing the transfer form it will be your responsibility to pass it on to the new registrant. We can not reissue race packs.
Transfers are only available online by clicking here.
There is a €3 fee associated with transfers*.
*Note: this fee is for bank and administration costs. The entry fee must be paid directly to the person transferring the entry. Total Timing or Waterford AC are not involved in that negotiation and take no responsibility for failed transactions between participants.

Transfers outside of this process are strictly prohibited and participants found to have transferred their entry will be denied entry in the future.

    Best race in the Calendar!!

This will sell out early without doubt. Numbers are already way up on last year (ten fold) so don't delay in registering.

In for this and hoping to give it a good lash- is it a 'PB friendly' course?

Not really - there are some drags in this - an big one between miles 9-10 which are tough and the winter weather can have an impact, however I've PB'd here twice mainly off the back of DCM training (albeit that was on the old route). Would highly recommend it - nice mid winter race.

A friend of mine is on the mend from an injury at the moment so was looking for a half marathon in Dec close to Cork. His two choices were:

    Waterford - €28 + €1.96 fee
    Clonakilty - €52 + €3.64 fee

Take a wild guess which one he went for :p

I was humming and hawing over this for a while but decided this morning I'll go for it to keep me training up to near Christmas. Hard to believe it's only 9 weeks til December

I'm in, injury rules me out of DCM 2017 so this is something to aim for, at least I can transfer my entry if still in bits!

Just a heads up, this is filling up fast and the maximum number allowed will be hit before dcm.

If you're contemplating entering, don't leave it too late!

Waterford AC always put on cracking events. Worth the spin down from Dublin!

How does the route profile compare to the Viking half?, I ran that this year and a hill in the middle almost got the better of me!

Maybe I read the route wrong but the nice downhill stretch around the 12 mile mark of the Viking half that I was so glad to see, we'll be running up that hill now in this half but it'll be at the start so everyone should be fresh.

I'm worried about my training, I have a bit of a chest infection the past few days and not run since Monday night so there will be no LSR happening this weekend. I haven't bothered the doctor for the "it's viral" diagnosis but I've had enough chest infections to know that's what this is. Last time I had it 3 weeks and the doctor gave me antibiotics but he stressed that he only gave them to me because it had been 3 weeks so therefore not viral, so I'm terrified I'll have to wait that long again this time. Anyway I'm giving myself plenty of rest so hopefully I'll be back running next Monday night

Thats right, you will be running up this just after a mile in. There is a nice bit of a downhill just after mile 12, to look foward to :D

Will there be pacers and/or different split zones at the start?

Yes there are pacers from 1.30, 1.40, 1.50. 2.00. 2.10 (there might be a 1.25 pacer, I think there was one last year, but I'm not 100%).

Balls was going to enter after trying a long run...if anyone has a transfer...I'll probably take that...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭Bahanaman

Ah jaysus!! Went to enter this morning only to see it's full. My own fault I know but would be very grateful if anyone would consider me for a transfer. I'll train away for it anyway just in case.

Expected Gavlor to update us on remaining entries myself so I could make snap decision. Some mate he is... :)

I'll also throw my name down, if anyone has an entry they are not able to use, please PM me. I'd be grateful of the transfer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭julyjane

I'd say close to the time there'll definitely be a few transfers going. Decent of them to facilitate transfers, pity some of the bigger races wouldn't follow suit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭sc9736

I agree.....been doing Dingle for years and asked if I could transfer this year due to family christening I couldn't get out of and they wouldn't allow it.

    Was also happy to give my entry again but again they wouldn't allow it )-;

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 495 ✭✭Butterbeans

I'd like to throw my name onto that list also. Please PM me if someone has one (2 if at all possible) they can't use and those before me are sorted. Thanks

Likewise if anyone has a race entry they can't use please PM me before end of November after those ahead of me on this list are sorted. Very quick to sell out but all down to being a very well organized event it seems :-)

Not unless you have a team of Taiwanese migrants ready to stitch up a few hundred wooly hats between now and then??!

I only want to go down because I've apparently got a thing for the Waterford accent. Don't need a Waterford coloured wooly hat! :)

4 weeks to go how is the training going, what kind of long runs are people doing? I did 10 miles today, 9 miles last weekend, 8 the week before. Only got 1 run during the week this week (5 miles) but I'll definitely get 2 this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 sarahmarie10

I would also like to enter so would appreciate a transfer, thanks

Was hoping to run Waterford Half but left it too late so if anyone has a transfer that they would like to offload I would be more than happy to take one. Thanks.

Long shot as the demand seems to be high but if there’s someone unable to run this year would love to arrange a transfer.
Passed on my own number to a fellow boardsie a couple of years ago.
