Quite fascinated by how they put a battery in that is twice that of similar sized phones. It doesn't seem to be heavy, either.

Kind of interested in this as a spare, maybe I'm missing where it lists the specs, but does it take a micro sd card, and is it dual sim?

I think it might be worth a punt.

    Edit. Got the specs

    I'm gonna take a punt.

3gb ram, 720p screen, FPS, 32gb ROM with micro SD, dual SIM.

Basil you seem to know a bit more about phones than I.

I have an s7edge+ at present. I also have two sums (one Virgin and one VF) ones a work sim, and the other for when I wanna switch off.

The thing about diverting calls etc is that people still text me on my private sim, which I only have in a phone occasionally, so I miss quite a few texts. (people who are on WhatsApp even text me then whinge about me bot replying to their texts, even though the have my private number, and know I'm on WhatsApp)

Basically my question is would this solve my problem, and will it take both my sims from the s7?

    Cheers

I know a fair bit about phones, but never had a dual SIM! It would solve your problems, though. I think one of the main problems with dual SIM devices is if you want to silence notifications for one SIM, but not the other. Other than that, they seem to work well.

Don't expect this phone to be anywhere near as good as an S7, though.

I have a Oneplus X. How would it compare?

I'll add that the screen on my X is smashed and will cost €90 to repair, but it's coming up on two years so am reluctant to put any money into it.

Took a punt on this. My Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is on it's last legs now. This seems like a good replacement from what I can tell.

Would a buyer be stung by Customs or duty if purchasing this phone?

Pretty good chance, I'd say. It's coming from their China warehouse.

There was a discount code for this earlier that flashed on my screen, anyone catch it?

Be aware that this is a hybrid dual sim phone, that means it has 1 SIM slot and another slot that takes either a second SIM or a memory card. So you can use 2 SIMs but if you need to use a memory card you can only use 1 SIM.

No, tomtop include the Vat. It's on the phantom 3 bargain thread, buyers received their drones with no additional costs, although I've never purchased from them.

The One Plus X works the same way as described earlier, it can run dual SIM, you need to sacrifice your memory card slot for the second SIM.

I have an oukitel and it's serious kit for the money. A lot of these phones e.g. ulefone, oukitel etc are on fulfilled by Amazon and on lightning deals so it's 3 day delivery and Amazon returns if it goes wrong. Oh and customs paid.
Must try dual SIM part. It's 64Gb so don't need memory card

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,086 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Or consider a Moto E Plus with it's 5,000mAh battery as an alternative

Yeah I know it's using a Mediatech chip also but that's what makes these phone a bit cheaper to buy.

From a quick look around, it looks worse than the Oneplus X speed wise. It's processor doesn't get near as good ratings as the Oneplus X.

This is not a bad deal for the price. You will get some ROM support on XDA but its only 720 resolution. Its the type of device to suit those that want brilliant battery over much else. Its Mediatek which has been known to have issues with GPS accuracy too.

The xiaomi 4 phones with 4100ah battery and snapdragon 625 are an alternative at this price

Probably comparable battery life with the more efficient snapdragon 625

The Phantom 3 page on tomtop specifically 'we will pay tariffs in advance when the ship to Europe'. The ad for this phone does not say that so I wouldn't assume buyers won't be hit by customs for this phone tbh.

Anyone know what this would be like for GPS.
I've had a few china phones over the years and they have all been rubbish on google maps and as a sat nav.

I wouldn't touch this thing. Horrible specs from a no name Chinese brand. Same up your money and buy something decent. It needs a battery that big with that horrible processor. Most of those unknown Chinese phones with huge batteries don't last pissing time due to crap processors and badly optimised software.

I would echo this. There are good Chinese phone manufacturers out there, but there are a tonne of ****e ones too. The fact that their main plug is a huge battery, which is almost impossibly high capacity for the size of the thing is a big red flag. Expect a severely compromised phone with ****e software.

There are good devices out there in the sub 200 bracket, the likes of Xiaomi have proved themselves reliable.

ok, but you'd be better with a note 4 (S625) for similar money

I'm on my second Oukitel K6000 (as in 6000mah battery). Great phones and virtually unbreakable. I'm eyeing up the new K10000 pro.

And you can avoid excise by buying from the German warehouse on Tomtop https://www.tomtop.com/oukitel-7/p-pz0059b-eu.html

32 gb Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Global edition with 5.5 inch screen and 4100 battery would be a safer bet.

    https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-note-4-global-3gb-32gb

(Note Global version is essential for full 4g coverage)

Should be possible to get if for about 170 euro delivered (incl customs VAT at 23% and an post €10 handling fee)

The smaller Redmi 4a with 5 inch screen with 3120 battery) is about 110 euro delivered (incl customs and An Post fee)

    https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-4a-global-32gb

Both offer option of being capable of dual sim or single sim with second sim slot used for memory expansion.

Bought this phone from Amazon recently

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01L6R13LA/sr=8-2/qid=1502911526/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=1502911526&sr=8-2

Sim free, 4G, 3gb ram, 6" screen, dual sim and you can add a micro sd card.

I got the 'used - like new' one and it was in mint condition. Only cost £99.99 and comes with free delivery. Arrived in two days!

So far its been great. Even came with a rubber cover! It's a tad heavier than my old phone but the 6" screen is super for reading or watching videos. Good reviews on Amazon. Comes in black, silver or gold!

    Great budget phone.

I had the redmi 4a for a very short time, but in that time it had a few glaring flaws, then it got wet and fried itself. Will never buy another Xiaomi product.

Have a xiaomi redmi note 2 prime, am very happy with it, purchased from Bangood.com, was caught for customs, total price at time was 200 euro. A little akward getting play store and Google apps on and there is some Chinese rubbish, but I can live with that given the cost saving for something similar here.

If you buy a global version it won't come with "Chinese rubbish" apps installed. You'll get a phone that works pretty much like any Android phone you'd buy here with some google apps pre-installed and your normal access to playstore.

Customs with An Post is hit and miss. It appears that some sellers make false customs declarations.

(Tempered glass screen cover and a good phone case are needed. If screen breaks it might not be possible to find a place that will replace it. At the same time you'd nearly have the price of a new phone for the cost of screen replacement.)

I have the global room installed, think I did this after receiving, got rid of most Chinese rubbish, still some small Chinese rubbish pops up, after last update I noticed this in one of the apps notifications, haven't a clue what it is but I run avast just to ensure all ok, have tempered glass on it since purchase, battery is very good and removable if needs be, 2 sim slots, sd slot. All in all, extremely happy,

Normally stuff from China takes up to month to deliver, is it coming from China? I'm still waiting for something from Banggood, have ordered lots from this site and received everything including a phone and some power banks, all of which were cheap and working perfectly.

This ... plus it was on presale. So they will only fulfil orders once the presale ends.

There are hacks online to follow that allow you use all three cards at the same time... 2 x SIM Cards + 1 x SD card

But it is very fiddly and involves cutting pieces off two of the cards with scissors :(
