I expect the same starting XI except Milner in for Moreno, for experience and better defensively.

I'm going for a 1-0 pool win, I think the likes of Can, Firmino, Matip will be hugely motivated back in Germany again, and the front 3 will cause a lot of problems...

I fancy both teams to score, anyway.

If Liverpool concede any corners this could be a difficult game for them.

They look to be in good form, and scoring freely. They also played Derby in England in Pre Season and beat them 2-1.

That's not a lot of preparation games for a CL qualifier...

Tea time kick off. What's everyone planning to have?

I'll be backing the CB's off Hoffenheim to score AT just as soon as I find out who they are

  • Hoffenheim a good price. Worth a few squids

If Hoffenheim have any sense they'll just try and catch us on the counter..... play long balls out from their keeper so we can't press them high & put our defence under pressure without leaving themselves open to counter attack.

Essentially, they should play like they are away from home.

If they get closed down when they are attacking they'll quite likely happily try and win corners.

They're overpriced. Liverpool may well be backed in further due to English effect.

What has Milner done to deserve being dropped? If Moreno absolutely must play at left back, at least swap Milner in for Hendo in midfield.

Maybe Klopp is holding a grudge against him after lying about Leeds being a decent team.

Robertson has been an effective signing :o
Poor lad not in either squad

It's a bit mad that last years "break glass in case of emergency" LB has leapfrogged last years #1 LB and the PL experienced LB purchased in the summer.

Herr Klopp knows best or Herr Klopp took a paternity test and Moreno is his secret love child.

That or Herr Klopp is putting Moreno in the shop window for a few games before Aug 31st.

    Interesting strategy!!

It's bizarre. We were weak in defence last year even with Milner and Clyne, both of whom are much better than current options. We need serious upgrades in almost all positions in defence in my opinion - GK, RB, LB, CB.

Imagine at the end of last season, after scraping into fourth place, that you were told Alberto Moreno would be the Liverpool first choice left-back next season.

Or two years ago that Mignolet would still be the goalkeeper.

I don't really think he is though... Milner missed most of preseason so I can understand Moreno temporarily moving ahead, being the fitter player right now. And I'm guessing Robertson has some sort of a knock to not be in the squad, having been tipped by many reports to start.

I'm a bit more worried about TAA at fullback to be honest. Would rather a more defensively sound option away in Europe. Hope Clyne gets fit again soon.

    Moreno again?
Christ that's awful..... WTF like. Unless klopp is afraid Miller gets injured if he plays LB & than we have little cover for CM. Doubt that's why though considering the pre season comments re Moreno being back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,639 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

I don't care what he did in pre-season, the fact that Moreno is no 1 LB and the LB signing cannot make the squad shows how poor Liverpool's transfer window has been so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I'd be more worried about TAA at the moment than Moreno he made a lot more mistakes in pre-season and on Saturday than Moreno.

I'd rather see Milner in for TAA than Moreno right now.

Overall Moreno makes more mistakes. He's a liability.

    As is Lovren.

    Got to love Souness

Coutinho no longer Liverpools best player, yeah he catches the eye and all ducking under arms and that (??) but Mane is the man these days.

In fairness, I think we missed Mane more last season when out than Coutinho.

I think both Mane and Firminho are more important to the kind of football Klopp wants to play but it doesn't mean we can afford to lose Coutinho without replacing him.

Call me old fashioned but I wish we only wore change strips when really required because of colour clashes not because we're away.

    Liverpool in red is iconic.

    Right, enough whinging, c'mon Liverpool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,881 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

For all Mane and Salah's magic, Coutinho's still the most important player I think.

He's the one that can make it all click together, so we play like a team. Mane and Salah are both capable of individual moments, but we'll see a lot more than just that from them if Coutinho (and Firmino) is there linking everything together. They'll have far more of the ball in dangerous areas.
