Apparently Eoghan Murphy (eoghan.murphy@oir.ie and finegael@finegael.ie) wants our elderly parents/neighbours to rent out their homes if they happen to be in a nursing home. If this is Fine Gael's solution to the housing problem, then we should be all worried. I believe that Government's interference with property rights…

I wouldn't be too sure of that.
I know of a council house vacant in my own area, that has been vacant for nearly a year. It is immaculate, I know the previous tenant - the thing is, the council wouldn't know that, because they haven't sent anyone out to check the condition of the house.
