Can't see another thread for this. Starts on September 7th and all episodes will be available at once. I saw a trailer on Sky yesterday but I can't find it online. Here is one from a few months ago.
Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks star in this tale of corruption of innocence, of murder, of grief and of all consuming revenge - set against the backdrop of a remote and beautiful Canadian mountain town.

Don't have Sky Atlantic so hadn't seen this trailed. I'm a big fan of Tim Roth so look forward to seeing this.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Just got Sky's weekly email. Reminder that Tin Star starts on Thursday.

Early positive review from the Indo last week:

    In the US, not Ireland.

Looks really good from the trailers, really looking forward to it - always have time for Tim Roth!

Will definitely be checking this out - looks promising.

    Also, Christina Hendricks.

If Now TV Ireland wasn't such a big scam, I'd give it a try. But I've learned to live without Sky shows the last few years, Game of Thrones and a small few others notwithstanding. I'll buy the bluray if reviews are good.

Watched the first episode and really impressed.

Christina Hendricks a stand out so far which is impressive with who the cast are.

Also I want to live there.

Couple of episodes in and really liking it.

The girl who plays the daughter is really good and a real star holding own against some really top class acting talent.

Nice to see Genevieve O'Reilly is carving out a solid career for herself as well.

    I'm enjoying it..

The pace of the first episode was a bit slow for me but I think it should be a good series.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Few episodes in now and it's quite good, Roth is great as expected. I'm surprised someone could find it slow paced, the first episode to me was anything but that - sets it all up very neatly.

Ok, I gave up after ep4.
It feels a little amateurish. The four 'bad' guys are like the 3 stooges.
First the leader tries to hide his face from Tim Roth in the bar, then he parades out with the daughter from the dam in front of cameras and everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,628 ✭✭✭brevity

Only one and a half episodes in myself, it looks great and everyone is great but there a bit of an issue with pacing imo.

Anyone getting a History of Violence vibe from it?

Yes, I agree, pacing, that's definitely an issue.

The first episode was great and then it rapidly descended into complete tosh.

    It's absolutely terrible.

Sky need to invest in some proper writers. They have the cast and locations but my god they really **** up the storylines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,353 ✭✭✭Heckler

I really like it. Sure it has major faults but its worth it for Roth. For the most part I think he puts in a great performance. 2 episodes to go.

This had so much potential. Sadly it went to pieces about 2 episodes in.
Christina Hendricks' storyline especially was a complete waste of time

This was one of my major gripes - a group of lads that look like they belong on Eastenders aren't exactly intimidating.

Also their motive for killing Roth was laughable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Finally finished it today it went downhill script wise during/after the 3rd episode for me.

They had the cast of very strong actors and an amazing location but they didn't have the script and they wasted the chance to make a thrilling series.

Hopefully Sky/Amazon will sit back now and look for some decent writers for season 2.

Also, finished this yesterday. Thought it was a real slog. The tone was all over the place from the get-go. Who exactly were we supposed to be rooting for on the show, anybody at all? I'm shocked it got a second season and theres no way I'll be wasting my time with it. The cast were generally good (the trio of Roth, Lawrie and O'Reilly were excellent), but their motivations were hard to get behind and some of their actions were verging on laughable at times.

Apart from the odd few exceptions, I've found most of Skys original content to be fairly awful. It annoys me to think that this is where they are investing a good chunk of their subscribers fees.

    4 episodes in..

feels like a bit of a struggle alright..

like I'm there watching it and taking it in but also trying to figure out how they've messed it up...

so far I'm thinking it's the direction, especially when it gets close in and then the lines.. like the actual words.. the characters use to talk to each other.

Also, the baddie.. isn't great. (baddies I suppose)

At the moment it feels like they threw in a shock in the first episode and then didn't deliver anything near enough to qualify the show to be dealing with that.

Yup 4 episodes in myself and would prefer to be watching Ozark on Netflix which is far superior. There are so many issues with this show, but I would really like the annoying daughter to piss off back to London more than anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 738 ✭✭✭rodders999

Each to there own obviously but I must say that I really enjoyed it. Like Riviera the visuals were absolutely stunning, especially in UHD, but unlike Riviera the acting and storyline was way slicker. I enjoyed the moments of dark comedy interspersed throughout and am looking forward to series 2.

Strong opening episode but went drastically down hill after that. Tim Roth and his daughter gave pretty good performances and i didn't mind the german dude too much but other than that it was pretty meh. Storyline verged on ridiculous at times and you really had to wonder about the actions of both the good and bad characters at times.

I've given up on this after 3 episodes. Not a single character that you'd give much of a sh*t about and the goons are just comic book villains. Very disappointing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,904 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Episode 3 was a useless, expected more from this tbh.

That daughter is annoying as fook as well, I was hoping yer man would throw her over the rail and be done with it.

Yeah I'm up to ep8 don't know how I have stuck it this long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,725 ✭✭✭Pretzill

Watched the entire box set a few weekends ago as it's as available on sky.

Promising start, stunning locations and some good dark humour.

But it really did go downhill and I don't know why I stuck with it. The premise for revenge was so I'll thought out and implausible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,844 ✭✭✭✭somesoldiers

Ep9 was good, how it all began, everything before and after was crap. The only thing that got me through it was the Irish woman, ridiculous unlikeable characters,I hate to see any programme with addicts spiralling into their addictions even further-not my cup of tea, glass of whiskey.at one point I thought he was letting on to catch the baddies maybe is why I held on

First look and synopsis of season 2.
After being left destroyed by the chaos that had followed Jim and his alcoholic alter ego Jack Devlin, played by Roth from the UK, the second season picks up with the unlikely hero cut off in the remote Rockies wilderness with his grieving and shell-shocked family struggling to come to terms with their ordeal. Seeking refuge from her own parents, Anna is taken in by the God-fearing Nickel family, headed up by Pastor Johan, played by John Lynch, his wife Sarah, played by Anamaria Marinca, and daughter Rosa, played by Jenessa Grant, and hidden with the Ammonites – a religious community close to Little Big Bear.

However, the peaceful prairie family are harboring secrets of its own and it’s not long before Anna is forced to seek her father’s help, as an altogether more hellish threat emerges. If Jim is to find a way to save his family, atone for his sins he must form an uneasy alliance in the battle for forgiveness.

Was intrigued by the radio adverts for it, so starting watching series 1.

    Stopped after episode 3.

    Found it rubbish.

Watched the first two episodes of the second season and garbage would be an understatement.

    - Really? -that bad. I liked the first series - ok the 'badies' could have been more convincing and it's no Ozark but the dark humour was great.

Anybody who gave up after a few episodes in series 1 - I'd at last finish series 1 off.

    anyone finish season 2?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,804 ✭✭✭recipio

Is it me or can anybody understand what Tim Roth is saying ? Cockney accents are OK but he really needs some diction lessons.
After a good start this is all over the place - he seems to wake up with a different woman in every episode. Sorry , a bridge too far for me.

    anyone finish season 2?

    Yep, finished it last night.
See, I'd love to like the whole thing more. The problem I have with the show is that the idea is great, the cast is brilliant, the setting is perfect, technically it's done very well but the writing is all over the place.
In season 2 they had so many writers involved that every episode steers into a different direction. It almost seems like they can't decide if that's a crime show, a psychological thriller, a family drama or just a dark crime comedy.

There are major flaws in the story, timelines are rushed so you don't even get the time to get in some character's headspace, there's no balance between the normal and the ridiculous.
The show wants too much from a pretty bad script.

I absolutely hate the Pastor, it's such an awful character. I'm not opposed of the idea with the colony but it's done so badly. It feels like they dropped a solid plot for some throwaway gimmicky garbage.

That said, I really liked the last episode and in my opinion they should close it as it is and cancel the show. Don't beat this dead horse, the cast doesn't deserve this.
Everything good about the show (and it does have it's strong points) is completely overshadowed by the awful writing that's all over the place.

They could have done something amazing with it if they would have decided on a cohesive way to carry the story. A pity because the idea and the cast is great.

it got alot better after eps 4 , as previous poster said it could have been excellent , worth watching if you liked first season , but this one is alot crazier more alco

Hi Lirw, I liked it and binged watched it all,
but did you not think it jumped the shark a bit with the crossing over from the Mexican gang and the Liverpool gang? How on earth did they possibly know each other? It was a bit weird I thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,799 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Cant stop playing Glen Hansard Bird of Sorrow - used perfectly in episode 8. I'd love a season 3 - it has it's faults but i love the humour.

I have just finished with season 2.

The whole thing was ridiculous to say the least. Farcical to say the least.

Is there going to be a season 3?

It jumped the shark way earlier than that i'm afraid. As many others have said, the writing was attrocious. The writers should really be looking for another line of work.
