Tank cleaning.

As mentioned in my refurb thread, I want to clean out the petrol tank in my boat. Unfortunately, removing the tank isn't a real option, so what's the best procedure and products to clean it in situ? I have already drained it empty of the old petrol that had been sitting it for quite a while, but would like to clean any old residue that might have built up. Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks .

If you have anti slosh walls it's going to be hard with it in place maybe give it a few rinse out with clean petrol or power wash it and let it dry in the sun then add an extra fuel filter to be on the safe side, another possible option would be to cut the side off the tank and put a new plastic tank inside.

Thanks for that fegal. Removing the tank would be the way to go, but that would involve major surgery! The only access I have to the inside is via the sender unit access. It doesn't have anti slosh afaik. Will check that out. I was thinking about cutting a larger opening on top that would give me proper access, then making up a panel to close it up again, properly sealed up of course! Any thoughts on appropriate cleaning products alongside actual petrol? Thanks.

    White vinegar, or acetone.
