Does anyone know why my stainless steel sinks are always stained with water marks even though I have a water softner installed?

Offaly is a very lime heavy area. It is possible that the resin is not getting enough rinses?
There are also other minerals in the water that may leave residues when they evaporate.

Someone told me once to rinse the shower down with water from the cold tap after use, this seems to work for me, no idea why though.
