What are you addicted to?

Prompted by the other thread about drug-taking, I thought it'd be curious to see what sort of secret (or not so secret) addictions the general population is harbouring. What can't you keep away from or get enough of?

I'll boringly kick things off with a run-of-the-mill chocolate addiction, I genuinely can't go more than a day or two without the stuff and will get antsy, cranky and get mad cravings if I'm in a sugar-free zone for too long generally. I can't venture into a supermarket, corner shop or coffee shop without picking up something sugary and any attempts to eradicate the stuff entirely from my diet have been met with complete failure a few hours in. I love sweets I do.

    What are you addicted to?

It changes. I am always hooked on something - reckon I have an addictive personality.
Thankfully not drink or drugs or smoking.

Currently it is eclair sweets. I cant get enough of their toffee covering and then the chocolate inside....mmmm...

Cadburys Creme Eggs. I've made myself a promise that at some stage I'm going to sit down and see how many I can stuff into myself before getting sick.

    Antihistamines;
I take them daily because I definitely have allergies and used to suffer from constant runny noses, sneezes etc. Since taking them this has eased up loads, but now if I go more than about 40hrs without taking I get an itch that starts on patches of my body and then builds in strength and to all over. I should really speak to a doctor about it actually.

I'll add - internet, boards.ie, my phone, coffee. Boards.ie aside, I don't think I've gone more than a few hours away from any of those in the last few weeks.

If I'm abroad or really really busy I'll not even think of logging into boards, but will always find myself at some stage on a tube or in bed reading an AH thread about sexy paedophile toys thinking "why am I here"

Animals. If I'm not bringing more home, I'm donating money to various animal rescues (money I can't really afford to be donating, that has to be proof of addiction?)

Or I'm reading about animals or I'm at agility class or I'm watching training videos or I'm reading the animals and pets forum or I'm trying to think of new exciting places to walk my dogs or I'm daydreaming about a career with animals or I'm making plans for setting up the rescue that I know I'll never be able to afford to set up or I'm just snuggling my own animals with a smirk on my face thinking how lucky I am!

A nice cup of tea. I'd be (more) miserable without it.

I love sweets. All the sweets, all the time. It's a struggle.

Am also severely addicted to tea. Tea, tea, tea, all the live-long day, it as long as it's black, not green or fruity or decaffeinated or otherwise adulterated. That's for sissies.

    Wine and cleaning.

I could literally spend all weekend drinking wine and washing everything that stands still.

I tend to get addicted to anything I like - boards, my phone, food, sex, sometimes people, tv shows, games, books, soft drinks. Anything that distracts me or that I can get lost in.

    Crisps
Even tho the Dr says they are bad for me
So many different flavors and makes available now too
Years ago there was half a dozen flavors and that was it
You can now be a Connoisseur of crisps...they will ultimately kill me
Death by crisps...what a way to go

Anyone got any healthy addictions? Addicted to running marathons for example? Or addicted to doing charity work? Kale smoothies perhaps?

I've some bad habits but none I'd call an addiction. I think the drink would be toughest to go cold turkey on, just because of the social aspect - but my friends would probably love having a driver sober on nights out!

    The X-Files.

    I hear ya!

I am Addicted to every type of chocolate there is. Dark / Milk / White, I really should be obese by this stage but luckily it hasn't affected me yet. I can't go a day without chocolate in some form. I thought when I would hit my 30's i might magically turn into a savoury person, eh no such luck. Currently eating a milky bar with a cup of tea. My bliss :pac::pac::pac::pac:

    My phone / the Internet
My boyfriend :o:o cringe, I know, but true for the moment anyways

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 337 ✭✭Harambe

The internet / my phone is by far my biggest one and its one I've never even thought of cutting down on.

I've given up or cut back on all the usual stuff like chocolate/crisps, drink etc. but I've never thought about the internet/phone thing.

I should probably try because it's quite common the missus gives out to me for it.
