Flyefit Swords Parking Charges introduced

Start of July, flyefit swords informed us that there would no longer be free parking, whilst this has really pi$$ed on my chips, I was wondering, just who the f**k is it that owns the car parks? who is the landlord? I for one joined flye because it was so cheap - i have to drive there each day from balbriggan, but now with the added costs chances are i will just have to find a gym closer to home that is more economical to attend.

2 hrs in carpark = 2 - 3 euro depending if you are underground or surface (2 hrs as once you go over 1 hr you have to pay for the full second hour).

multiply this by 3 sessions per week by 4 weeks per month and it adds up to close on 60 euro including membership.

Airside free parking is not always available depending on what time you go. Sorely disappointed by Flyes last communique on this stating that theyve done what they can and the landlord basically has told them to jog on if they think that some concession will be given to flyes customers.

Seeing that it'd probably amount to the best part of 400 euro for the year for parking alone means you'd be better off going elsewhere I'd say

Can you park in the car park across the road when you're at the gym, in the retail park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,762 ✭✭✭jive

Amazing how the parking fee effectively wrecks the low cost model. Seems like such an insignificant amount but when annual membership is €259 parking will actually end up more expensive than the membership assuming you go to the gym with some regularity. I mean it's very simple and basic maths but it just never crossed my mind how much that small parking fee could add up!

I've a roaming pass but very rarely find myself in the Swords gym (nice gym all the same)

I've seen cars clamped over in the car park by Woodies. NOt sure if they'd been left there overnight or what the story is, but not as unsupervised as it appears.

Could always get 20 nuggs from McDonalds. Legitimate retail park purchase and tasty gains.

    20 nuggs every workout?

You're now spending more 400 quid a year on nuggets.

Yeah but paying for parking is dead monies.
Paying for nuggs is a tasty investment.

Just clamped today. Parked in ayrside in the carpark. Was told if you leave the retail park they will clamp you even if you go to one of the shops first. They have somebody watching for gym users and then calling the clamping van.

I was told the same. Don't understand how the businesses on that side of the park don't have something in their contract to protect customer parking. Surely they are losing a lot of business over this.

    That's a shame.

I can't see myself using Airside again, I might have to rethink flyefit altogether. It's not the most convenient for me Monday to Friday, but the option of using Airside at the weekend kept me on the hook, not that I've actually used it in a couple of months.

they clamp cars who use the gym in the morning - before the shops open.
although not sure why the people clamped didn't tell them to F off and McDs is open 24h

    it is a craxy situation.

this is nonsense...if you use the shops you are entitled to 4 hours parking free.
    It's airsides own rules.

I know some people who bought mcdonalds ketchup for 20cent.
Put receipt in window...can't be clamped and clamper agreed.

It seems like a lot less effort to just pay parking charge than running around buying things for receipts for display

    Agreed.

It seems like even less effort to change gyms. Vote with your money and find somewhere else.

OP, have you tried Platinum gym in Balbriggan. It used to be a phenomenal gym, could still be.

Is it a private company or is it the Fingal County Council/NCPS?

I work in an office nearby and we have a validating machine for our parking tickets in the office. Surely flyefit can get one also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 LeahFitz

Has anyone else been having a problem with the pay machines? Twice now ive put money in, it whiirs for a few mins then goes to an error message and im out of pocket!
I dont trust the clampers enough that if i left a note i wouldnt get clamped so I usually have to resort to my park PNP app to pay another charge just to park there!

I received an email about free parking for 2 hours, is this a once off or is it a daily allowance?

I would also like to know this...how many spaces are there for flyefit users??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 851 ✭✭✭vintagecosmos

There's about 30 spaces. I have always gotten a place at off peak times. 11-3. Make sure to validate your parking ticket at computer inside gym.

If you leave it a bit earlier you probably would get a spot on the road that leads to Power City?

Thanks for that. Managed to get parking the last 2 days in official spots. Interesting I saw a sign that you can park in the VHI car park spaces outside office hours. There is double yellows as well all over airside but I dont think I have ever seen a clamp happen there.
