Apologies, it was just a C&P job. Can't make it myself but hopefully they get a decent crowd.

I can see Tony Martin winning the Hurdle, look at all the bullets he has at bottom weights. He was on the telly there a few weeks ago and said his horses have started coming good. Has actually lived up to his word for once with a few winners coming in since then.

    Slowmotion for the plate 16/1

Was sure Western Boy would win this last year, he didnt get in. Only 12/1 so loosing interest this year. Nice racing weight though.

Am I the only one who has no love for the Galway races at all?

Arbre De Vie & Road to Riches in the Plate for me purely for sentimental reasons. Followed ADV ever since that tender ride in the Albert Bartlett & RTR when he won this 3 years ago.

Only 2 decent races all week. I really have no time for it at all. Its like 7 days of standard midweek irish racing. Ill be far more interested in Goodwood.

Really like Arbe de vie, i put him up with some confidence a few times and got no luck at all..

Western Boy has a big handicap hurdle in him but it wont be this. 2 Miles around Galway is too sharp. Will win the big weekend handicap over 2M5F.

Much prefer goodwood, but Galway is a great day out, and just that. Serious good session. And we get to listen to ted Walsh on rte. The irish Prince Phillip

The 4 miler when some clown completely took him out as he made a good bit of ground before the straight & being brought down early in the Irish National, doesn't get more unlucky than that. Think the plate could be a little short for him though, can see him winning one over a good trip.

going to be some change for Weld, can't see him having any impact this year, stable in shocking form, gets worse from week to week

can see Martin having a good week, horses appear to have turned the corner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Weld doesn't even have a runner entered in the 2yo c&g maiden on Monday night. Must be the first time in decades he won't have a runner in a race that he usually farms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

Suspect Joey o Brien and his brother will be to the fore. Capri and rekindling 1,2 in a maiden there last year.

Mullins also actively targeting the festival last few seasons makes the racing better but it's still ferociously competitive

Denis Hogan's horses flying it at the moment and he has a very good track record as well, might be worth keeping on side.

Similarly Barry Ellison has been targeting the festival for the last few years as well.

Previous course form for both horses and trainers is paramount in Galway, its a unique track that suits certain types.

Beau Satchel has won at Galway for the last three years off marks of 64, 78 and 75.
It has a mark of 72 this year. It was a huge gamble last 2 years it won. It's available at 14/1 on PP now. They put the market up earlier. It's no 20 in the race which means it will most likely get a run off of a very low weight. Needs 5 to come out to get in.

The last race on the Tuesday

Im heading to it on Wednesday and Thursday. My heart goes out to all bar staff in Galway next week -I doubt they get as much as a fag break all week.

I want to buy Thursday tickets in advance, but tempted to hold out in case we get comps at the last minute. Is there any chance of a sell-out and we cant get in on the gate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,553 ✭✭✭✭Copper_pipe

    7:40 Galway

    Sweet Company

    20/1 ew on bet365

First Reserve. I see Martin has a 33/1 shot in the same race as Sweet Company. More than likely that will be pulled out. It will just happen to go lame on the day :pac:

I've only been to the Galway races once, in 1979.
The brother was married two months earlier.
His wife was speaking to someone who told her to back a horse at 40/1. She backed it and it won.
She hadn't told the brother. :)

Sir Ector at 66s and Winter Lion at 50s look massively overpriced in the 7 40.
Powersbomb fancied to run well and 20s with boyles is v big more of a 12/1 shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,137 ✭✭✭gazza1

Ive had one eye on WHISKEY SOUR in that 7.40 having won its first start for Mullins. A mark of 84 with a 7lb claimer onboard he could be well h'capped but was waiting on odds and as low as 14s boyles but at 40/1 b365 i simply cant resist

The issue is the claimer. He should be getting 40lbs :)

Beau Satchel in the 8:40 on Tuesday looks a good bet as mentioned on previous page.

Anyone have a look at Tandem 5/1 in the 7:40 on Tuesday also?

No chance of not getting in. Didn't they let in something like 47,000 people one Thursday about 10 years ago.

If you do a lucky 15 for the week now on pp and a horse selected doesn't get in or is a non runner is the whole bet void or does it become a patent or whatever??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

    Patent I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,135 ✭✭✭Gregk961

The selection goes down as a loser if it dosnt run unless its NRNB. If it dosnt get in its a patent.

Thunder Speed for me in the 7.05. Missed the good prices tho. Expected to go well.
Boris Grishenko in the Bumper. Elliott mentioned it on a Podcast i was listening to earlier.
Already backed Swamp Fox in the 7.40. Saver on Benkei i think.
Small EW on Mountain Kingdom in the 5.55.
Win on Hyperdrive in the 8.10.

Yes extra place but at 1/5 the odds. They are absolute scum.

Yeah but in this case the Extra place is vital, moreso than the 1/4 odds a place.

Anyone have another website to watch ATR? Mobdro isn't working

That le richbourg is some machine. That form line of le richbourg, debuchet and red jack the one to follow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭convert

    And they're off......

And unfortunately I'm a bit late getting to this - have only had intermittent 'net access. Am going to post a new thread for each day of Galway, as we've done for Punchestown and Cheltenham. Not going to do one for day one as it's already underway, but I'll do one for each of the other days. It may make it easier to follow the 7 days' racing a little easier....

Watching on RTE.I wonder what happened to Tony O'Hehir,he commentated on the first race and hasn't been heard since. The course commentary from Des Scahill was on TV for second race and a different commentator for the third.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭mjp

Heard them mention at the start of first race when introducing Tony that both himself and Richard Pugh would be sharing the commentary duties. O Hehir is well past it now and gets horses names wrong on numerous occasions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭Massimo Tara

Never even thought of RTE cheers
