Samsung American style fridge freezer in black was €1,399.99 is reduced to €699.99 and the silver was €1,299.99 is reduced to €699.99 also.

I have no idea what they are like but I thought it seemed like a good bargain for anyone on the lookout for a new fridge-freezer.

Firstly, I had already searched the DID site on my phone prior to my initial post, but that particular Samsung offer wasn't listed under their Fridge Freezer section.

It's also long been standard practice, for an OP in particular, to provide a link to the BA they've posted for the convenience of all on the forum.

    Cheers for the input though.

They omitted the link and I found it within 30 seconds without requesting the link via the forum

    Google is wonderful

    Have a good day

I see nothing wrong with expecting a link

Me neither. Just thought it was strange to request a link. Sub 30 secs was what it took me to find the items in question

Have this exact fridge since last November. Cracking buy. You won't know yourself with cold filtered water and ice maker on tap. I'm more inclined to go for a pint of ice water from this bad boy then say cans of coke that are actually inside it. Delighted with the fridge. We can do a 100 euro+ Shop and it still looks empty. Well the fridge part anyway. Freezer side is a tad small but for 700 quid you won't get much better. Everyone comments on the fridge when they walk in.
Funny story too. I put a deposit on it at the start of October with the instruction I'd tell them when I was ready for delivery. (Kitchen being done up). Paid I think 1150 or 1050 in full. Anyway I was trying to ring the store to arrange delivery and couldn't get an answer. I tried for about 2 days. I was well pissed off so took a spin down to the store dreading theyd closed or something. It was black Friday week or whatever the sale was and low and behold it was for sale at 700 or 750. I found a free staff member and told him I was trying to ring and he apologised and said they were out the door busy for the sale. I jokingly said "ah sure it's probably half the price now" without realising what it was selling at. Well low and behold he hit me back with "well if it is we'll honour the sale price." 10 minutes later I was leaving the shop with 350 put back on my visa card. Happy days!! Probs should of popped back in and given the guy a few quid but I was just shocked at the time and left in a haze. And all coz they wouldn't answer the phone. Lol

Bought this fridge/freezer about 3/4 months ago, paid €999. Excellent piece of kit and great value at €699.

Apologies I totally forgot to attach a link. It was my first Bargain Alert. ;)

Not bashing the OP but this is not the bargain it appears to be(i.e. It's not 50% off), I got it for €749 in expert electric a month ago (€774 delivered with a free 2nd filter and old one taken away). So still a great deal but rrp is nowhere near €1400.

Anyways says availability mid August so for the majority who need one ASAP be aware of this.

And one final thing, you will need to do a bit of plumbing for the water supply and the filter costs €69 (in the high street, may be cheaper online) and should be changed every 6mths

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 970 ✭✭✭rushfan

We have ours ( or one just like it ) over 10yrs now, never a problem. Make sure to buy the filters on eBay, much cheaper than the distributors. Filtered water is the biz too.

I'm assuming with the water Despenser it would have to be plumbed?

Yeah just a mains water supply, fitted with a valve that you'd normally see on DW or WM. Then just connect the filter and small pipe kit to that valve. No waste needed as there is a small drip tray fitted on the door.

Same Fridge in Power City for €850.

Just something to be aware of, those Samsung fridge freezers are 912 mm wide and may not slot into an existing fridge freezer space , as lot of the older fridge freezers are 900mm wide .

Was just about to ask a question on this exact topic.

Our current fridge is much smaller than this and is semi-integrated I guess you'd say into our kitchen units. Would placing something like this somewhere else in the kitchen be a nightmare plumbing wise etc.?

Our Samsung fridge is 910mm in width and the opening is 950mm. 6 year old appliance.

I guess it depends on the size of your kitchen. Ours went in as part of a complete refit. The plumbing element is a thin plastic pipe connected to the external filter running from the cold feed at the kitchen sink with an on/off valve for when the filter needs changing, which is approximately every 5 or 6 months. It's such a big fridge, storage wise, that items previously stored in cupboards can now be kept in the fridge. Incidentally, the bottom storage bin can hold up to 7 bottles of wine.

Just wanted to give our opinion on this fridge/freezer...

These models have been around for a good while. We originally bought ours in DID back in 2009. It was €699... in 2009!

The only difference is that the water was not plumbed in ours, it was instead a large britta filter unit on the inside of the door.

They are great, with loads of room for all you could want for a decent sized family. My sister liked our Samsung so much so got one at the time too... so went for the plumbed water one.

Problem back then was a spate of breakdowns with Samsung "american" fridge/freezers. We had a tech out twice in the first 3 months for noisy/loud unit and my sisters one wouldnt close right after a couple of months and then after that was fixed, the compressor unit failed and had to be replaced.

Saying all that, i would say these generations have all those issues ironed out.

The "original" price is bull though, back in 2009 we paid €699 for ours and my sis paid 749 for the plumbed model from a different retailer. Its just DID makey-up prices again.

We changed our kitchen around about 4 years ago, sold this Samsung, and got 2 built in beko fridge/freezers instead, and they open up in the built in unit like this does, with way more room. Especially in the two freezers, as the freezer side in the samsung is slightly on the small side even for its size.

It's just a small hose, but if there's nowhere to hide it behind when running it to the fridge it's not of much use.

When we picked up ours I wanted to get a plumbed one but my wife, rightly in the end, talked me into getting one with built in Britta filter tank that you top up when required. When we moved house there was no space to fit the fridge into the existing single width one, so we have it in a better location, but one with no access to water.

Yeah, DID are a joke. It's 899 in power city and in stock.

They probably got too much interest from boardsies and jacked up the price.

All these retailers will do a price match so not a hassle, if found cheaper else where just tell them and they will reduce it.

I booked this RS53K4400SA for some 700 euros in power city and then cancelled it and bought a bigger Samsung RSG5UURS1/XEU for 1199 which was on offer in May...so these fridges are always on offers and any retailer will price match it

My two worst consumer experiences were with DID and Samsung regarding an 'american' style fridge freezer. Never ever again.

It wasn't anything to do with a build up ice in the fridge side by any chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,671 ✭✭✭jay0109

I got this fridge last December as part of a kitchen fit out. Got a discount by ordering all the items I needed through the DID head office.
Very happy with it. Make far more use of ice than I ever did before and kids are drinking more water now that they can pour it themselves.
Agree with an earlier poster who said the freezer is smaller than expected but it stops us from haording when there's no need really in this day and age

I have one of these that I bought back in 2015 for €950 in Harvey Norman. Great product and as previously stated having the water dispenser is worth the price alone, especially if you have kids.

Wont need replacement filter for a while and they can be expensive if bought locally, but are available on amazon for £12.50 for a pair. Buy two sets and get free delivery and 2 years supply for less than €30.

That appears to be 1 filter for 12.50??

Keeping an eye on the price of this one as it is our preferred fridge if the price drops again.

Can anybody confirm something really obvious? Does the plumbed water connection supply the ice-maker as well as the chilled water?

Yup. There's an external filter that supplies the fridge. One pipe goes through it and into the back of the fridge

I've just measured ours, it's approx 5.8m in length, from sink to filter via back of units.

Is it the utility room that is behind the door? If so, perhaps there's mains water feed for the washing machine, that you could tap into, hole thru the wall? Wouldn't be a quick DIY job, of course.
