I dont think you'd get too many shows nowadays where the main character is accused of Child molestation lol and they decided to broadcast the finale just before Christmas :D.

sad to hear, I met him several times when they were filming lovejoy, and I drank with him and the cast and crew, he was more of a drunkard in real life than tinker!

I helped him operate the cigarette machine on many occasions when he couldn’t even see straight.

    He was a lovely gentleman.

    Rip Tinker.

Not in the same vein, but not the ideal thing to be showing on Easter Sun was Watership Down, especially when kids are eating their Chocolate Easter Bunny  As Ch5 got the most complaints ever on that day

Peter Donat passed away aged 90 RIP.
Veteran character actor Peter Donat, best known in recent years for playing Agent Mulder’s father on The X-Files, has died at the age of 90.

Donat passed away on Monday at his California home of complications from diabetes, according to The New York Times. He made his X-Files debut as Bill Mulder in Season 2’s “Colony,” and reprised the role in five subsequent episodes, concluding with Season 6’s “One Son.” (Bill Mulder was dramatically killed off in the Season 2 finale, but continued to appear via flashback.)

Enjoying a screen career that spanned six decades, Donat also made appearances on Dallas (as the doctor who treated J.R. Ewing after he was wounded in the famous “Who Shot J.R.?” cliffhanger), Murder, She Wrote, Hill Street Blues, Charlie’s Angels and the original Hawaii Five-O.

Nice enough, bit of a knob slightly conceited but a nice enough chap all the same, they were all ok except Chris jury who did nothing but moan and complain about everything!

The later series had the woman who is now in easterners (can’t think of her name at present) she used to smoke like a chimney.

    Diane Parish?

Chris was probably in character- he did that all through the series so obviously the role suited his personality :P

    Yes that’s it, Diane parish.

Maybe but I remember one day when they were filming outside, he came out of the trailer to do the take, spent three minutes outside, did the take and a flunky came rushing over and wrapped him up in a bloody great puffa jacket and gave him a mug of tea to warm his hands......it was May and everyone else was in shirt sleeves or lightweight sweaters!

I think he fancied himself as a bit of a star actor, but they did eventually drop him, could be because he was a handful.

    Sad to hear about Bunny.

Quicksilver was a great demented show, apparently a contestant once won thruppence (3p) which wasn't a life changing amount of money, even in those days.

John Cunliffe, the creator of such beloved children's TV programmes as Postman Pat and Rosie and Jim has died aged 85.

I don't really know Rosie and Jim, but Postman Pat is pretty timeless and there isn't a child (or an adult) in the country who doesn't know of Pat. RIP.

Never quite got into Steptoe, probably something to do with the mise en scene, the residents of Railway Cuttings and East Cheam on the other hand are still wonderfully droll.

Legendary football commentator Peter Brackley has died aged 67.

I'll always remember him for Football Italia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭Relikk

He wouldn't have been one of my favourite commentators, but he was definitely iconic because of Football Italia. The thing I'll remember him for most was his brilliant, and very funny impression of Jimmy Greaves on Saint and Greavsie when they used Jimmy's Spitting Image puppet because he was ill and couldn't make it to the studio for the filming.

    RIP.

Richard Baker - one of Britain's finest ever newscasters - has died aged 93.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-46246049

His death breaks the last link to the very first days of BBC television news, as well as a major link to the sixties and seventies - when BBC newscasters didn't double up as reporters and vice versa, and reports were usually done in the studio (it was more of an ITN thing in those days to do them on location). Not many survivors from this era now, with Michael Aspel, Richard Whitmore and Angela Rippon being the most notable.

Richard Baker also presented coverage of the Last Night of the Proms for many years - and was a familiar voice on radio too, presenting many classical music programmes on Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio 4.

The word "legend" is overused these days, but I don't think it would be wrong to suggest that Richard was one.

    Well said.

I love this story in his Obituary about how he spent his time in his final years
In his final years, Richard Baker moved to a retirement home. He was a little unsettled at first but soon found a way of integrating.

He would read all the newspapers and cut out the interesting headlines. Then, at Six O'clock, he would read them aloud to his fellow residents over supper.

For the great news man it was a smaller audience than he was used to; but one which was no less appreciative of his talent.

George A. Cooper has died aged 93.

He played Mr. Griffiths, the caretaker from Grange Hill. Being an avid Hammer fan I also know him from Dracula Has Risen From The Grave.

I randomly came across him a while back on YouTube where he appeared in an internal British Leyland film from the 1970s about the importance of quality work. He came to a bad end due to a shoddily-built Austin Allegro. Worth watching.
