The use of the phrase 'general tone up' is a good one to use when weeding out bull5hitters and chancers, btw. It's entirely meaningless. If your trainer doesn't spot this, move on.

No, but know him and he's one of the better trainers around. Lots of spoofers and insta trainers out there, but Padraig has been doing it for years.

Wouldn't normally be bothered recommending anyone, but the fact that you specifically mentioned Ballsbridge, I said I would as he is based there.

    Gonna call bullshît on this.

"Toning up" may not be the cool gym-speak thing to say but it certainly carries meaning, particularly to those not overly familiar with the ins and outs of fitness. If it was meaningless, anyone who read the OP would be totally baffled by what the OP was talking about. But we know what he's looking for so really who gives a fcuk if he said "toning up"?

Not trying to get at you endacl but that whole "what's toning?" thing that people seem to love touting is just smart-arsery that we all need less of, particularly the fitness newbs.

I'm inclined to agree with this.

You hear the phrase Tone Up said during so many assessments, you get to the point where you almost expect it.

The important thing is that the client is communicating a goal to you, and while they may not really understand what they're saying themselves, you know what they mean and you can educate them later.

It'd be hard to tell someone who's never set foot in a gym before that "toning-up is bull****" without making them think you're a dick who doesn't want clients ;)
