Considering volunteering for this, a nice juicy line up in AIR, Toots & the Maytals, Mark Ronson DJ set, Morcheeba, Rusangano Family, Bananarama, Horse Meat Disco, Larry Heard, Romare and Fish Go Deep among others. Would there be camping areas in Dun Laoghaire, I know Beatyard is not a camping festival but I imagine a lot of tourists come to the area. So would be willing to tent it for the night if there was a few camping areas near hand in the area.

Was thinking about the Sunday as Air would be a must. What's it like down there? Where is the stage etc? Plus does it normally sell out?

I don't think it sold out previously.
Whole setup is on concrete section very close to the Dart, they have markings that indicate they were once queues for the ferry. As you face the main stage, you face towards the sea. Also close to Wetherspoons
Nice relaxed buzz, good crowd and no scangers usually.

I got the early bird three tickets for price of one deal so basically €30 for the entire weekend, fantastic value.

Not sure if i'll make it in for a full day either of the days but want to see Rusangano family & Air certainly.

Only found out about this today. The Sunday looks like a nice outing!

I've never even heard of this, but I'm in Dublin on Friday night and would like to pop in on the way home for the day.

Is it mainly a music festival? I'd be more interested in the food stands, drinks etc. Is it casual or just a mad house?

Very casual, lots of food stands and craft beers, there was an N64 there last year too for multiplayer mariokart

Went to it for the day last year, it's a very casual festival with plenty to do outside of the music, lot's of nice food, places to hang out, there is a big market in one of the buildings there that was cool, also lot's of games and activities to do if you're into that kinda thing. The music was only okay though, main stage was good but the other small tent with DJs playing was awful, the sound was terrible in there last year for Theo Parrish and Tensnake, as a result I spent a lot of the night at the main stage at acts I didn't have much of an interest in. Nice crowd with no scumbags at all. Fun day out though, if they could improve on the sound issues I would go again (although a nightmare getting there from Kildare).

Gonna splash out on the Sunday. Mad to see Air and just checked a recent show on YouTube and it looks fantastic. Cant seem to convince anyone else to go- not that it matters!

Ronson and Bananarama on the Saturday- will be a lot of families and nostalgic Gen-Xers and should be a good night

If you like your reggae check out Toots and the Maytals, I will sum it up by saying reggae got soul. Also check out Fish Go Deep for good dance music and Kila for Irish trad experimental sounds.

IF you're looking to camp, there's none in Dun Laoghaire......

But, you could wild camp in Killiney or Bray. Some spots around Bray Head that you sometimes see tents at.

Just took about 2 hours to get out to Dun Laoghaire on public transport and was the same getting home. A lot of travelling for a day out! Fair play to anyone who does a commute like that to work/college. I'd definitely go again if I lived closer.

if you can get the train from Kilcock/Maynooth/Leixlip, it only takes about an hour total. 30-40mins to Connolly and then change onto the DART.

Can't find any youtube clips of Air's Brakes On but there was this Irish Budweiser ad that uses the track, also can't find any AIR setlists from this year so I don't know if they still play it.

Stage times are up. Looks like Air are only getting an hour slot. That's pretty crap.

Yeah I agree its this daft curfew rule when near residential areas probably in association with the Vintners Confederation, so that people have to leave the festival and seek the pubs and clubs in the area to keep drinking. Speaking of which, is there After Parties to do with Beatyard like say Forbidden fruit or Longitude?

The schedule says they are on at 9.30pm. When is curfew, 10.30pm or 11pm?

Something on in the basement in wigwam (formerly twisted pepper) on abbey street - horse meat disco sat and mood swing on Sunday.

Even better their Boiler Room set from June, full set is 1 hour and ten minutes so we only really loose ten minutes of their set.

Ara yeah. It'll be brilliant either way.

Hang on, Boiler room was 1hr 21mins though

Ara look, it should still be class. It's just silly that if you look at the times of the people before them, it looks like others could get a longer set. Headliner should get longest.

Im also very ignorant towards the other acts, so thats another part of it aswell!

    http://www.the-beatyard.com/timetable/

    1:15 PM : Mama Kasbah
    2:30 PM : Katie Kim
    4:00 PM : Kila
    6:00 PM : Toots & The Maytals
    7:45 PM : Morcheeba
    9:30 PM : AIR

thats ****e that Air get less stage time than most of the other bands. 65 quid aint cheap neither

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,042 ✭✭✭innuendo141

It's disappointing alright. My ignorance assumed Air would get a decent headliners slot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,042 ✭✭✭innuendo141

Having a quiet morning at work, so I emailed Beatyard. Got this back

    Hi Nigel,

AIR decide the length of their slot, not ourselves. Should still be great!

    Thanks,

    Ciaran

Pity it's only an hour for Air, that's why I bought the ticket. I did get it for 30 quid though so can't complain too much. Will have been there since 6pm to see Toots so by half ten my legs will start giving out for sure!

Candi Staton has obviously been replaced by Morcheeba - can't say I'm the biggest Morcheeba fan (I know two songs) but I'd prefer them to Staton. A better fit for Air as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

I'd definitely prefer Morcheeba to Candi Staton

Must give them a go. I havent heard of them since Slane 03. Even then, Im pretty sure I was passed out during their performance, could be mixing them up with Halite

    Goreme wrote: »
Any update news on the length of Air's performance, will it still be one hour?

Yup. I went whinging to them by email and they got back saying Air decided the set length. Must have been paying by the minute or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,738 ✭✭✭✭bodhrandude

I always thought it was the same as FF and Longitude, Iveagh, is it not 10.45 pm because of it being a residential area. I'm sure AIR's set will be about an hour and fifteen minutes. Its not really stated what time it actually closes at, unless someone who's been before can confirm. Does the music stop at 10.30 giving you 15 minutes to drink up or does in go on till 10.45.

    Taken from the website:

    Gates Open: 12pm both days

    Event Finishes: 10.30pm both days

    Bars Close: 10pm both days

As its a smaller festival, I'd imagine they'll be fairly strict on the curfew. More of a risk of them being told to sh@g off next year.

Yes, it says the only people who can come and go are weekend ticket holders, they must give a wristband on the first entry

Just wondering this is my first year. Is drink very expensive in there as it is with most music festivals? Is it easy to sneak in cans or other drink?
    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,123 ✭✭✭eviltimeban

You may not be able to bring a backpack in - security has become tighter at concerts and festivals now. Saying that, not sure if Beatyard is going to be the same.

You'd be better off drinking in a nearby pub first and only getting minimal pints when you are there. It doesn't strike me as the kind of gig where people are going to be on the p*ss, however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭frink

Drinks are no more expensive than in their pubs. They had a Becks tent last year and then sell the brewtonic and other craft beers. Don't know about cocktails and spirits.

Its not really a festival where you get people going on the p1ss. There is a Wetherspoons 5 mins away so can start there then buy a few drinks in the arena.

They do searches at the gate but I've never tried bringing in drink so can't say if it is easy or not.

60 minute headliners - early curfew - sounds like it will be the usual rip off scenario for drink.

Was keen on this but going off it by the minute...

Beatyard have already stated that it was Air who decided the set time, they also don't have any say on the curfew as it's a residential area. They have a variety of drink choices including some tasty craft beers.

I'm not sure they can help you if you're looking for an all night rave with a three hour headline act and free drink for the night.
