    Hi everyone,

    Newly engaged and now starting the search for a wedding venue! :D

    Just wondering if anyone here has booked Fallon & Byrne as a venue for their wedding ceremony/meal/reception. We have been looking at their wedding packages and were curious to how people have found it and what kind of prices people have been quoted for meal and reception?

    Any info would be greatly appreciated, looks like a really nice venue and would be very handy for us!

    Not getting married there myself but just a little info on the food if it helps :)

    I was at a wedding there in February and the food was gorgeous! We had a tapas style menu which was lovely cause it got people at the table who didn't know each other chatting and mixing :) it's a lovely venue and something a little bit different, if that's what you're after.

    Had a couple of corporate events there, really good.

    Girl I know got married there, she would recommend it, said food great and they were easy to work with.

    was at 2 in the last year there. food to match anything at any venue I've ever been in.

    not the easiest place to get in and out of with transport but that aside, highly recommend.

    I' ve done a few weddings in the place.

    They all spoke highly of the food but the drinks reception was iffy as its located in a different area and not maintained well with drink, depends on how your using the venue. Of course there is no accommodation and yeah, parking is non existent but take advantage of the many local carparks that do great over night rates.

    Lack of outside space would put me in the NO category. Sorry but that's the reality.

    Fallon and Byrne have great grub for sure, but to be stuck on the top of a restaurant and no escape would not do it for me. And before anyone says anything I am not a smoker either.

    There is just something about an outdoor space that is wonderful. Am I mad or what.

    I work there a bit and it's certainly very popular. Same issues as the above with parking/access but I usually setup earlier to negate this. Definitely one of the best Dublin city wedding options.

    I have to agree.
    It wouldn't be an issue for me at all with a winter wedding but if you're thinking of summer months I would be put off by the lack of outdoor space.

    With regards to the parking, if you do choose this venue maybe you could arrange transport from somewhere outside the city where guests can park easily, a minibus or similar to bring them in.

    ETA: I was just looking at their wedding pages, the food selections are fabulous and I think very well priced!
    I think a winter wedding here would be wonderful.

    We had our reception there.

    Our criteria were city centre location, nice room for about 110 people and great food.

    The wedding planner was great to deal with. Friendly, professional and on the ball.

    They have a number of different menus from which to choose - we went for a three course sit down. They do a tapas menu and buffet style as well.

    We were steak eaters back then and boy, were the steaks great. Cost us an extra €1500 (thereabouts) compared to their beef but I still have people telling me how much they enjoyed it.

    They do nice vegetarian options also.

    They have a nice selection of wines - we did a wine tasting. We also went to an open day wedding show type of thing

    We got married in University church (Stephen's Green) but you can get married in there. We stopped off in Neary's on the way down and it was nice being able to stroll down from there to the venue for us and for the guests.

    The interior:
    It's plain enough but you have free reign to design it as much as you want to. If you want any tips on that, let me know. They will give you pointers if you need them. Check their FAcebook page for photos of how different people did it.
    There is space for 10 round tables seating up to 12 (at a push) so budget for 11 at each table.
    €800 I think for a Friday and Saturday wedding to hire the room.
    We had our reception in Neary's (booked the upstairs - would deffo recommend that - they were so nice and helpful and allowed us to bring in our own catering). We hadn't thought of a reception in F&B.
    When people arrived in we had a wine / beer for everyone.

    Outside Area:
    We hadn't given much thought to this - and it didn't impact on me or my wife. We don't smoke and we got married in September.
    Some guests would have popped out for a smoke or a break at some stage but it wasn't noticeable really.

    There are two car parks on Drury St.

    We didn't have an issue with that.

    What I would add re Grounds.... it really depends on the wedding you're after.
    With a city wedding you're not going to get many with outside grounds.


    How many of your guests smoke and are you bothered that they'll have to leave the room to go down in a lift to the ground floor and stand outside for five minutes? We weren't. We would have had max one smoker, if even that I reckon.

    If you've a big number of smokers then that could impact on your evening.

    I was at the afters of a wedding there a few years ago, so didn't have food and we were upstairs. It was fine... nothing special stood out to me though tbh. But as a guest (particularly just for the afters) it was extremely handy having it in town and just being able to hop on a bus!

    We considered here for our wedding next year but then I remember being at a wedding a few years aho in F&B....the food was AMAZING but the bar closes at 1.30 and I remember being stood outside with the bride in her wedding dress at 2am wondering where to go?! Depends on your type of wedding I guess, but I wouldn't be one for cutting a wedding party short!

    Depends on what you're looking for.

    Bar closes at 1.30 and you're out by 2.

    We milled into the club Yugiyo (ground floor in the karaoke bar - free in - gay friendly - great tunes - my favourite late night bar) then, but to be honest, we were tired after our long day.

    At that stage we had one drink and left. Some of our guests stayed on though.

    Thanks to all for the replies, just getting the chance to sit down and read through them all. Some good info there! Its early days for us still, but we are thinking somewhere city centre and scoping out a few different venues. We are going into to meet them over the next few weeks and have a look at the venue – just wanted to hear from some people who had booked it/attended a wedding there already!

    The fact that smokers will have to go down to the street is no big deal – smokers are well used to that these days!! Neither of us smoke, so it won’t affect us either! I am aware also that the bar is only until 1.30am, that suits us fine! If others wanted to carry on partying later into the night there are plenty of options around and we can probably make arrangements for that closer to the time if required

    Thanks for the detailed reply re: your own wedding there! We would plan on having similar numbers – possibly 50 people for a meal – and then another 70 arriving later for a drinks reception for the night! How did you find their pricing for the food? Did you just book the venue for the meal with drinks before and after in Nearys – so you were only in F&B for a few hours?

    Hey,

    We had finger food in Neary's after the church.

    Then headed to F&B for dinner at 6.

    Food is expensive but worth it. If food really matters to you, it's a great choice.

    If you were having 50, that'd be 5 tables. The room would look pretty sparse depending on how you set it up.

    I've seen them do long tables - banquet style which might suit better.

    You could also hire in sofas, plush seating for a sit down area

    You'll have a fair but of space which will give you the opportunity to have a drinks reception there but we liked the break in Neary's and it's one of my regular and favourite city centre pubs.

    Theres the restaraunt downstairs and the restaraunt on the first floor, the food is fantastic in there, I've eaten a few times in both, wont go wrong with that side of it.

    However, for a wedding party the same caveat would go for any restaraunt, depending on amount of tables you're booking, you're going to be sharing with others.

    Just don't fancy the whole traditional booking a private room / hotel stuff.

    Dont see sharing as an issue once we get a number of tables together and get nice food/ wine.

    We were looking at Woolen Mills, F&B, Cleaver East or maybe Fire.
    I've eaten in the downstairs wine bar a few times in F&B and know its fab food and wine.

    Just wondering if anyone had done the restaurant for a wedding meal rather than the private function room.
    There's only going to be maybe 34 of us.

    It was a middle of the day job mainly to cater for some very elderly relatives. There was a specific menu people could order off. I thought the price was very reasonable and the food was streets ahead of hotel food. Steaks were a few quid extra. The wine was great as well.

    We booked a separate venue around the corner for a more raucous party in the evening and night. We had another 30 or 40 arrive for that. There was no ceremony on the day as we got married in a registry office abroad a week earlier.

    have a look at odessa as well round the corner from f&b, been a while since I was there but more private venue and theyll put a dj on with a small dance floor for you after. 30-40 is perfect numbers for there.

    I like Fallon & Byrne and the room upstairs can be lovely but if often looks too shabby. The stairs and toilets in particular certainly needed repainting. the last time I was in there. And I don't like the way there aren't private toilets. It needs an upgrade IMO.

    Yeah we were all down that far wall and the way it's set up you don't really notice the rest of the people in the room. I'd highly recommend it.

    We booked a room in Drury Buildings after. My missus loved it. It's on the top floor though so it's 3 flights of stairs down for the smokers. They told us we would have access to a terrace after 11 but it never happened. I wasn't particularly happy about that deception to be honest. This was in the depths of winter and I would have been more annoyed if it was a fine evening out.

    Yeah you could just plug your laptop or whatever in to their sound system. They did sliders, fish and chips etc at about 11. They did good cocktails as well which was why my missus mainly wanted to go there.

I had food anxiety - I hoped there would be enough lamb tagine when it got to me and I only took a tiny bit of fish because I was afraid there wouldn't be enough to go round.

    Obviously it saves on staffing for Fallon & Byrne but I thought it wasn't very classy for a wedding. It was just a mosh mash of food on one plate.

    Desserts came on one big heavy platter that was too difficult to pass around. One half of the table got about twice the amount of desserts.

    We had our reception at the Cliff House. Its a few years ago now and it was actually called Bentley's when we got married. There was 32 of us so maybe it's an option for you?
    They have a fab tapas/wine bar downstairs that would be ideal for a few drinks before/after dinner as well. Or you could pop into the Shelbourne, we had an area reserved in the bar before dinner so they are open to that option too.

    I like this style of serving food, it's been done in slightly different ways at two weddings I was at. I can see how it could be badly managed though. When done right it's nice and communal and cuts down on waste.

    We booked the Cliff now for our reception of 18 next May. They do sit down meals for I think 50 in their private dining room, the hire costs are pretty reasonable. If you book a wedding package you need to occupy all rooms though.
    It's definitely a bit more fancy than F&B, they recently refurbished it. But stunning location.

    I was at a wedding in F&B a few years ago. The food was fab - but the ’silent’ vegan took so long to be delivered that the main meal lost any coherence.

    People started having extra drinks and going for smokes. It just all got messy. If it were me, I’d order specific vegan meals for specific guests/seats. The food was yum, but the cooked to order, and some people deciding to go veg / vegan on the day ruined it for everyone else.

    Adding to this again.
    We've booked Eden in Sth William St for a meal for about 35 people.

    Any options for venue to reserve a few tables for drinks afterwards.
    We dont want a room to ourselves if possible but rather just a few tables where we can invited some more people for a beer and some finger food...
    Any ideas? I'm struggling for a venue tbh............

    No, they don't have a min number for it, but that's because we're not going with a wedding package plus we're on a weekday. We're staying as small group, no people joining later. We're price- and number wise treated like any other group that books in for a private meal.

    Apologies for my questions but ...
    So a party of 18..you have entire function room on top floor for the evening?
    Bar? Normal group menu?
    Music iPod?
    I could be tempted to switch if you answer yes to above :)

    Okay, so we're planning to invite 19 guests, including us it'll be 19 adults and 2 kids.
    We paid the deposit for the function room and this is exclusively for us until midnight including the private bar that adjoins the room.
    The menu is a choice of their group menu options that are priced a bit higher because they are this fancy restaurant, between 65 (3 course) and 85 (5 course) excl. drinks per person, we decided to operate a cash bar, which is entirely up to you, they are really flexible and accommodating.
    If you're under 22 people you get one long table with crockery and all in a plain manner and you can bring your own decoration in. Music will be Ipod, no charge for using the sound system and you also won't be charged for cake cutting if you bring one in.
    Mind you, they have a service charge on all food and drinks which adds another 12% to your final bill but I think that's the case in a good few places, I don't know.

    I found their event manager incredible to deal with and they're pretty laid back. They apparently do a lot of these tiny receptions, if you state straight out that you want the room with just a meal they know what's up and won't give you a package price. Worked well for us and until now the process was very hassle free. It's not the cheapest option in Dublin but we decided to go small and a bit more fancy but still very laid back. The backdrop for an intimate party is definitely a very sophisticated one.

    Just an update..FAB replied to advise that they only take bookings in function room for events of 70+ people and suggested the restaurant.

    Ah well..we'll stick with what we have so.
