    Hi.
Am I getting this right... I can use itfor BBC iPlayer ?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the promo code!

Never used this provider before, it is based in Canada (part of the five eyes) so how safe or the logs.

Unfortunately no android app at present + instructions for android are for pro version only.

It will be handy to have when the android app is made available.

Note: - Discussing passing geolocked sites is not recommend on boards, so be careful!

Also you will soon need to register with the BBC, so enjoy access to the player while it is available without that.

Haven't registered! But will you need will need a license and British address? I think!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 422 ✭✭_John C

Hopefully the need to register with the BBC wont cause us problems. Ive recently downloaded content from the UKTV play website without creating an account with them. You need to register if you want to watch online but I just copied and pasted the video url into a downloader and it downloaded fine :)

Also; I didnt need to use the vpn to download from uktv play.

That's pretty cool - you don't even need to register - just install addon to your browser and select country of your choice. And I am on British IP now - thanks!!

You now need to register with the BBC both on Android App and browser iplayer.

    Needs a UK Postcode.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/usingthebbc/why-we-are-asking-you-to-sign-in
    a. Don’t mess with our services

What do we mean by that? This sort of thing:

    Hacking them
Trying to get around our content security technology (software that stops people copying our content)
Accessing content from outside the UK that you aren’t allowed to, or helping others do the same. For example: using a VPN service so you can watch BBC iPlayer when you're outside the UK
Refusing to remove content, games or apps from your device when we ask you to. This might happen when we take down services. Which we can do at any time, without notice.

Just signed up now. Very impressive. So quick for the iplayer. I just had to say I had a tv licence. It didn't ask for a post code on laptop.

    This compatible with an LGTV?

Probably not on the TV itself (if it is android based, need Pro account for that).

Possible to setup on your rooter (DD-WRT/Tomato).

I got a lifetime deal, of the pro version and has been working fine for me for my uses on android.

Update: The 60GB (SOS60GBS) promotion has now ended. Please see below for the 50GB promotional code.

How to get the Free 50GB p/m allowance:

Click here to go to the Windscribe website.

Click "Sign Up" (top right of page).

    Select "Use for Free".

Enter username, password, email, select "Create Free Account".

Go to "My Account" (top right of page), select the option "Claim Voucher" beside Account Status and enter the code 50GBFREE.

Your account dashboard will display the 50GB monthly limit.

Will try this tomorrow, seems like there's a bit to do to get it set up. LoL, all I want to do is watch a popular football highlights programme on me TV! :-/

Just to add, the 50GB free seems to have been nonstop (so may be a long term offer), the extra 10GB also came in handy with the disposable mail addresses :) also worth mentioning that the 60GB offer came from https://sharewareonsale.com/ that is what the SOS stood for at the start of the coupon. It might be worth keeping an eye out for.

    It just worked for me.
It said that entering email was only good for 10GB, but when i reloaded the site, my account still logged in, 0/50GB Bandwidth Usage.

    Edited

I also had to confirm the email first.

Giveaway of the day — Windscribe 1.7 60GB/month free (Win&Mac)

From comments of that post: -
    The voucher code is "GOTD60GB"

Just checked /r/windscribe and there is a beta for their Android App.

I have a Pro account, but free users probably can use that app as well!

Edit: - Just created another free account, voucher above works. Plus the Beta Android app works with a free account (but limited servers)!

Edit: - I think that offer may have only been for a day, plus it is only 1 year license!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

The GOTD code still works, it sems to have just replaced the other one.

Heads up for anybody that went for the 50GB version, that code is only good for a year, however the 60GB is lifetime licence (as long as they decide is a 'lifetime').
The code can be used to upgrade, so there is no need to create a new account.

The free version is limited to One active device at a time!

If you setup on rooter, you could get around this limitation!
Edit: - Sorry needs pro account as well.

The Pro account is unlimited devices!

Do you not need the pro account to set up the router?

Yes sorry, didn't check that far before.

Android (OpenVPN/Strongswan app) was clearly marked as Pro Only!
But the beta android app works.

Anyone else get a message on the chrome addon warning that the service can take over your internet connection and is snooping on everything you type etc asking if you want to leave it in place or restore to normal settings?

I do not use chrome, but i would hazard a guess that it is chrome telling you that chrome can no longer spy on you, and Windscribe is blocking it/taking over your connection.

Of course it is taking over your internet connection, it is a VPN.
Are you sure it is not saying that it could snoop on you?

If you use both the desktop and browser extension, make sure both are connected to a UK server. Or disable one of them.
