Those built in car seats are a great idea. All family cars should have them. Well wear

If you don't mind telling - how does that work? How did you get it delivered from the UK?

Did a dealer in the UK arrange that, or is it an outfit here that will source the car you want and do all the donkey work, paperwork, registration, etc.?

Called a dealer in the UK selling the car, agreed a price. Transferred money to their account. Called some local car transporter outfits for a price, €330 and they lifted the car and brought it back for me. Was surprisingly straightforward. I half expected to have to send my ID or some kind of complication, but nothing at all like that.

Well wear. Would have loved the Ahlambra for the doors and booster seats etc but looking for petrol and in the 2010-2012 range so will probably go Galaxy.

Pity I hadn't looked into transport before, am plane + ferry this weekend and would have been handier just to get the car delivered!

Car arrived this afternoon and no hidden surprises thankfully as we bought it with out seeing it. Bought from a franchised dealer and the car is only 12months old so figured we were safe enough. Nice place to be and very impressed with Android auto, never used it before but it's very responsive. Here are some pictures. Cheers

Best of luck with it, looks lovely.

Took delivery of Galaxy late on Thursday evening so just in time for road trip. The extra space was great. So done circa 1,500km so far in it.

It's a really solid car on road, I suppose my older SMAX was starting to show it age. The auto gear box is hugely better than older model. The 2ltr engine has that bit of power which is great for the open UK motorways.

It's the space which kids love. Loads of room in the back when all 3 are in. Also the airplane tables on back of seats work out great on longer trips. We done a long day trip yesterday and Misses decided to jump into back with kids and she was amazed with the amount of space.

As it will mainly be her car she has taken it out and loves it, well as much as you can love a 7 seater. Finds it handy to park etc so tick in box there.

    Diesel or petrol?

    Volkswagen Touran 1.6tdi reliability

    Hi folks,
we have a 2006 VW touran 1.9 tdi. It has 270km and we have done most of the major items DMF, starter, wheel bearings etc. I was considering buying a 2013-2015 VW Touran 1.6tdi . I see that there are 2 versions , a Bluemotion version (C02 121) and a normal 1.6tdi, with 134 C02. I may look in NI or Uk as well.

We have generally liked the Touran although I would question VW reliability as we have fixed quite few bits and pieces .

Are the 2011+ tourans reliable as we will keep the car for 7+ years.

Also if we buy in the UK can we get an extended warranty that will work in Ireland, (many will work in NI ).

    Appreciate any advice .
    thank you Breda

Diesel, we dont do the mileage for a diesel but very restricted in the market and diesel seems to be only option

Same as but am on the boat with a 2011 Petrol Ecoboost! Refused to give in and buy diesel, not so much because we don't do the milege to make it worthwhile, but more because I would be concerned that lots of short trips would lead to DPF issues etc.

Just to pull up old thread :-)

Have the Galaxy now about 6 months maybe, Misses likes it but doesn't love it....

So I think we are back out to market again for Alhambra.

Just wondering, I got price to go up one year and drop 10k mileage for Alhambra. They are looking 5k, off same garage I bought the Galaxy off. The Galaxy is in same condition as when I took delivery. Seems a bit steep for me to be honest....

    What do people think?

What does your missus not like about the Ford that's different in the seat?

€5,000 to come up a year with less miles on the new car? I don’t think that’s too nasty to be honest. Yes, it’s a decent chunk of money but changing car so soon is never painless on the wallet.

She has always loved VW/Audi etc

It is small things to be honest. The Galaxy is a great car and she says so. But showed her a picture the other night of the drivers position in Seat and get "oh yeah that is lovely!!"

It was same with electric car, not a hope a Leaf was going to cut it, 5 mins inside the eGolf and she loved it.....

I know a mate who has driven Ford all his life, had a Galaxy and swapped for Sharan, brand new 171 last year, full leather, all extras. Bloody hates it, wants to change it this year back to Galaxy:p

Yeah go up one year. Drop from 52k miles to 43k miles....about that, so 10k less miles

Yeah, 5k for that doesn't sound unreasonable to me, changing again so soon.
If you and your wife both seem to think the Galaxy is fine, but she reeeaaally wants to change just for the brand, get her to stump up the 5k herself! :D

As for our 2-y-o S-Max which we got a year ago, we're still delighted with it! I still admire its looks, with the body kit and leather interior. And I like the cockpit from the driver's seat, which I presume is the same as your Galaxy.

I would say though - now that it's settling in - a couple of rattles and squeaks crop up from time to time, and there have been some minor intermittent electrical gremlins in very cold weather. Plus some of the panel gaps aren't perfect, so I guess you can get better than Ford on the quality side.

If 'year up' means going for a one year younger car, the 5k figure is not unreasonable at all. It of course depends if it is going from 2yo to 1yo or from 15yo to 14yo - but I guess you are talking about relatively fresh cars.

Its going from 14 to 15

So I guess the Galaxy is worth around €24k, the Alhambra €28k. The dealer is actually making a very small €1k profit - and is covering warranty, sale preparation etc. with it.

Sounds like a good deal honestly. It goes down to engine and gearbox choice and specification...
