    (only 31 still alive)

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40438207

Monalisa Perez, 19, was booked into county jail after shooting at Pedro Ruiz as he held a book to his chest, believing it would stop the bullet.
The couple's three-year-old child and nearly 30 onlookers watched as she fired the fatal bullet into his chest.

The couple had started a YouTube channel in March, aiming to show the "the real life of a young couple who happen to be teen parents".

Ruiz's aunt said they did it to increase their social media following

    Well they definitely succeeded there.

So who's the real winner huh??

They did it to get famous.

Well, they're infamous now, Darwin style.

Your eagerness to involve Trump in this disaster kinda backfired (excuse the pun).
Ruiz, Perez; yep, that was the Trump demographic alright.

The utter stupidity of this is unimaginable.

What in the world made them think a book was going to stop a bullet never mind a bug ass bullet.

Its amazing how some people lack basic common sense.

Common Sense 1: Its not going to work, dont do it.
Common Sense 2: Dont use a very powerful gun. Use like a 22 or something.
Common Sense 3: Test that the book will stop the bullet before trying it for real.
Common Sense 4: Dont have your kids watching.
Common Sense 5: DONT ****ING DO IT YOU ABSOLUTE TWATS.

Ah well one less stupid person in the world.

They're much better off, what sort of life would they have had with someone so utterly stupid as to stand in front of a high calibre gun with a book for protection. At least now they might have a chance at a normal life and not one where their idiotic parents try to make a living by doing dangerous stunts. It was probably only a matter of time before they involved their children in an attempt to be more outrageous for their equally idiotic and brain-dead followers.

I'd say the chances of there being two books of any description in that house are vanishingly slim.

Most houses would t gave 2 identical books .

What a tool though. How could he not realise that a bullet will go through the book. There are videos online of people cutting down trees with 50 cal bullets

One article I read said there were about 30 people watching this, so there were 30 other totally stupid people there as well.

Cannot believe that not 1 of them thought "wait, this is a stupid thing to do "

This is the unfortunate side effect of canceling mythbusters. I'm pretty sure they debunked the ol' books stop bullet myth multible times.

It's a bit crazy that two teenagers could own such a powerful handgun. There should at least be some sort of scaling like they have with the motorbike license, start out on something small then work your way up to the guns that could probably shoot through a concrete block.

When Americans are getting so much of their common knowledge from movies, this is the kind of silliness that happens.

He ended up receiving 30% of the Hispanic vote.

Latin American people who are living in the USA legally despise border hoppers. They followed the rules, did things correctly and became citizens.

It's kind of like how I despised the illegal Irish when I was over there. Chancers who give us all a bad name. You must have respect for a countries laws.

Or could afford one. Desert Eagles aren't cheap pistols. Two grand new IIRC. Most pistols aren't cheap. Because in Ireland we don't live in nearly such a gun culture we often forget how expensive such a thing is.

Mind numbingly dumb all the same and he's reproduced. Neither parent seem to great on the oul brain power, which has a strong genetic component, so the kid's likely fooked.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

did they not do an episode where they showed that stuffing phone directories into car doors made the doors effectively bulletproof? or am i thinking of another show?

They did that, but the bullets went right through.

I knew i wasnt totally misremembering
The Build Team filled several car doors with phone books and fired various firearms at it. The phonebooks were able to stop 9mm, .357 magnum, and .45 caliber rounds. However, the more powerful deer slug shotgun rounds and the M14 rifle were able to pierce the door and the phonebooks easily. Since the phonebooks could not stop all of the bullets, the myth was declared busted. However, the Build Team continued the experiment to see how many phone books behind the door would be needed to stop a deer slug and rifle round and found that only two phonebooks were needed.

i think thats a partial success.

I can't remember that one. I know they did one testing a number of things like hip flask, those mini bibles, zippo lighter and so on with a number of different calibers to see if having any of these things in your pocket would save you. I think some did sort of work on smaller rounds and there was an outside chance you could live if the bullet struck whatever it was. But the bigger rounds just obliterated everything.

The phone book in the door might work because the metal is helping out but maybe only on a smaller powered handgun, I don't think it would stop that desert eagle round, I certainly wouldn't count on it working. The fact the pistols are very inacurate would be more likely to save your life, just run away and after 15ft the odds of getting hit reduce dramatically.

There's absolutely no reason a normal person needs a gun like that, they're purely a show piece and have very little in the way of a practical application outside of the military and even then I'd say they're too powerful to be really effective. I saw a video of a guy firing a magnum?? (the dirty harry gun) and he was scared of firing it, he hated it because it had such a violent kickback. That makes the gun pretty useless for just about everything.

I get why Americans kind of need to allow normal people to buy guns. There's too many guns out in the wild to tell normal people they can't protect themselves from bad guys with guns. They also have a real hunting scene over there. But guns like this have no place in civilized society. They need to start making standardised guns for domestic self protection that aren't about looking cool and are just plain and practical.

Yeah, I've never really seen or heard of military using a gun like this, they want something effective and easy to use, the DE is so hard to use effectively it's power is meaningless.

Oh I know; and American Hispanics can be very conservative.
The poster who tried to use this incident to disparage Trump was not aware though that the majority of Hispanics voted for Hillary.
