Who are your favourite bloggers/YouTubers/influencers, both Irish and international?

One of my faves is Lex from MadeYewLook. She's a bit of a rock chick and really down to earth. I found her from watching her amazing Halloween YT tutorials a few years ago.

Blogs I enjoy reading are Makeup Savvy, British Beauty Blogger, Forever Amber, Retro Flame, The Fashion Law, Strangeness and Charm, Lovely Girlie Bits and Fifty Shades of Snail.

On Snapchat I like Karen from LGB, LauraLoves, BeautyNook, The SKinNerd, thebeauttruth and Rosie x.

Snappers I always watch and enjoy are Jennifer Rock (skin care), Laura's Views (bit of everything she is also vegan, not why I follow her tho), the white moose cafe (the craic!!).

The only YouTube I would have watched always was Little Kiva (makeup tutorials) but she has mostly stopped now!

On YouTube I watch Fleur, the Anna edit, Hello October and Lily Pebbles.

On Snapchat and Insta I follow Pippa, Louise Cooney, Something Navy and Sincerely Jules.

Aesthetically speaking, Sincerely Jules' blog would be my favourite. Her style is amazing.

I dip in and out of others for entertainment reasons but these I consistently follow.

I did a massive clear out about 3 weeks ago, so all I really have left is just jordan and Laura's views on Snapchat. Deleted them all from insta and facebook...taking a mini break everything is quite repetitive

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 447 ✭✭qxtasybe1nwfh2

International YouTube: I love Samantha ravandahl (makeup tutorials and honest reviews, videos like products I would not repurchase) Stephanie Nicole (very detailed reviews, goes into ingredients and formulations of make up and wear tests, videos can be long but worth it) and Mariah Leonard (make up reviews , drug store dupes and tutorials) would highly recommend. I dip in and out of Jamie genevieve and Jamie paiges videos too. (Both makeup)

Any chance folks could say what the topics of the blogs/ Istas/ Vlogs are, rather than just posting up names? I have never heard of any of those guys (that may say more about me) but be good to know in case one does something in an area I'm interested in.

I'll post up some of mine later when I've time!

My absolute faves are Doireann (snapchat impression queen, works for Spin 1038), and Retroflame (Irish fashion blogger from Kerry in NYC).
The reason I love them both is, they both have gorge style, lovely personalities, and don't come on begging for products/freebies. Doireann is just gas and makes me laugh my head off, I've even found myself doing the Clare accent at times lol. Retroflame has such timeless, classy style, and always has a great attitude, she has some great interiors ideas too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭Scraggs

The only blogs I follow are British Beauty Blogger and Temptalia. Both have beauty news and product swatches first. I've literally cleared all my social media accounts of all Irish bloggers/ snapchatters as in my opinion and experience there isn't a single one that isn't a con artist!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭fg1406

I deleted all the Irish bloggers that I was previously following. I just found that I was watching ads all day, rather than genuine reviews, original content etc. Also so many of them are more "lifestyle" bloggers (actually a lot don't even blog anymore) and the lifestyle they lead just isnt relatable either.
I don't follow any on Instagram other than bands, artists and friends. I do follow the actual make up brands themselves because I know it's an ad and it's not deceptive so I can judge for myself.
I don't snap as I just don't like it as a platform. I subscribe to only one YouTube account these days and that's Wayne Goss as he's so open, honest and transparent (that I can see). Anything that's sponsored, he will say it. Despite his huge popularity he hasn't changed either. No begging for freebies and very little content outside of make up / YouTube. I don't care what care a make up artist drives (or got for free) or what gym they attend.

    YouTube-
My favourite is the Anna Edit, she beauty and lifestyle and seems so down to earth, she has interesting videos about capsule wardrobes which I'll never do myself but I really appreciate a blog that's not all about buying too much.
I ironically really don't like her friend Lily Pebbles, I feel she's too contrived but her content is good and along a similar line, I just can't watch her.

Hello October and I Covet thee are beauty and fashion vloggers, if you like ASOS haul type things they're good and they test out new releases which I always like!

I really like Fleur de Force, lifestyle and beauty, she does some great gift guides every Christmas and lots of home decor videos, she's very professional and does brand colabs quite often but is honest about it!

I watch Tati as well who's an OTT American who tests out ridiculous makeup but she's always entertaining and I trust her reviews.

Rachloves is a Canadian blogger who does beauty videos, she's funny and puts effort into her content which I really appreciate :)

I don't follow anyone Irish, they all seem bought and I was tired of having to click affiliated links to find out where a top was from etc.

I love Rosie Connolly (she blogs about makeup, fashion, tutorials and her little boy but NOT to the extent of other Snapchatters).

Also love The White Moose Cafe (Paul runs The Charleville Lodge in Phibsborough and also the cafe attached. He's a wind-up merchant, he blogs his daily life with partner Jason and is generally GAS)

Also love Doireann, James Kavanagh, Caroline Kay, Pippa O'Connor and Claire Balding.

    I have 3 main "categories" of bloggers/ social media folks I follow, some of which intersect at various times. LGBTQ general stuff, menswear/ vintage style and technology. My faves in each are;

DapperQ (Women wearing menswear and general LGBTQ content, but focused on fashion & style)

Danille Cooper (She's a Gent) (on the DapperQ sub-team, just really great style and seems cool too)

The Defiant Femme (more traditional femme/ vintage fashion & style with an LGBTQ edge, she's lovely too)

Damien Broderick (menswear blogger/ tailor based in Dublin, actually turned out to be the tailor making my wedding suit which I didn't know until I got to my appointment!!)

    MKBHD (tech)

    Karl Conrad (tech)

    Dave2D (tech)

    Jonathon Morrison (tech)

I love Gemma from Beautynook. So down to earth and really is a lover and purchaser of make up and beauty bits!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭ciaradx

The Beautiful Truth - for make-up. She's very honest and transparent. I would trust her opinion on products more than other bloggers.

The Skin Nerd - she's very funny on snapchat, also very good knowledge on skincare

Nikkie Tutorials - makeup artist from The Netherlands, she has amazing tutorials on youtube

Doireann Garrihy - she's hilarious, love watching her snaps. I've noticed that lately she's getting sent more stuff and seems to be doing collaborations with brands so hopefully she doesn't become "just another blogger".

Love sinead from the beautiful truth. A breath of fresh air.
Karen from lovelygirlybits, love her sense of humour, her family and how she's a regular girl living life and having fun she's so relatable
Just Jordan, an absolute lunatic. I love her energy, her accent, the way she phrases things, pearl. Everything!
Tignam, followed her when all that drama happened just for a nose and I really like her she comes across as a lovely person.
The makeup fairy, I really admire her work ethic and hate see the level of hate directed towards her. When you can see hard work and dedication paying off, I can get behind that and support her.

I like Tignam too. I don't know why she gets flak. She's always been very nice when I've asked her something and she comes across really well.
I particularly like the fact she doesn't constantly plug her business.

I like Lilly sabri on instagram but I don't like the way she can't put her phone down to enjoy things like a wedding she was a bridesmaid at. She went outside to talk about a competition she was running its crazy the way they can't just take one day off from social media for a friends special day.

Retro Fame - Mostly because I am jealous of her lifestyle! To be fair she puts a lot of effort into her blog and does not engage in any bitchiness etc. The clothes she wears gives me serious wardrobe envy! She seems very down to earth as well!

Lauras Views- I would always trust her opinions on beauty products, really lovely down to earth girl. I know this is incredibly nosey but has she split from Dean? I know he used to appear in a lot of her snaps albeit hidden! But seems to have disappeared lately.

James Kavanagh- I know he probably wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea but I think he's gas!

I think she's just had enough of people speculating about what he looks like and what their job is so she's not putting him on her social media any more. :)

I don't find her overly whingey but I think one of the main reasons she gained a huge following is her honesty. She is upfront about whatever struggles she has, so I suppose in that case she's not holding back on a bit of complaining.

Agreed. She comes across as a lovely person, She's very professional and polished compared with many other Irish bloggers. I find she gets the balance right between blog, professional and personal. I love her style, nothing cheap, tacky, unsuitable, too young etc on her, it's all well fitted, stylish, age appropriate, she has a great eye for clothing and is a conscientious shopper. I'd love her to wear a bit more colour though.
The only thing that irks me slightly is how can she afford to live in NYC? Does her blogging really make that much money going by what she hastags as ads or sponsored posts or do her parents fund some of their (herself and her sister's) lifestyle?

Laura and Dean split up afaik. She said on Snap that he wouldn't be appearing on her social media anymore and asked people to respect their privacy on it - read very much like he wasn't in her life anymore, rather than him being suddenly coy. Very sad as they seemed like a great couple!

Are you sure she is on a date because on her InstaStories she has a pic up of lipsticks the Dr Hauschka event so if you're going by her outfit pic on Instagram I would think it's very odd that she would mention she's going on a date with a dr, if she wouldn't reveal her own or Dean's professions previously I can't imagine she would reveal the profession of someone she is just dating. Maybe I'm wrong though.

BeautyNook also commented on the photo saying something along the lines of "see you there" so clearly it is an event and not a date.

Yeah I think she just meant dr hauschka. Also on a side note , they couldn't reveal their professions because they are not allowed to post it on social media.

She has been speaking about this event for a while now, so 100% not a date. If she has broken up with Dean it's very sad, Lauras Views is great for keeping her personal life just that, and it's another reason I really like her and enjoy her content.

I agree completely, even if they could reveal their professions they are much better to keep them private and keeping as much of their life as private as they can.

Keep your content to what it should be - beauty, food, travel, DIY etc and keep your private life just that, private. No reason at all for it to be in the public eye IMO.

I find LVs to be refreshing in that sense to be honest.

Oh right she was talking about the event lol. Still pretty sure they broke up a while ago. I love her content, she's a diamond!

I really like her too, she's very funny the way she will literally discuss anything from moon cups to lash growth serum, I really hope her and Dean haven't broken up. They seemed great together, (you would swear i knew her how sad am I)

She also got me interested in the Vegan way of life, so she definitely has positively influenced me, I am not a vegan but I am trying meatless days etc. I watched a few documentaries she recommended, I just think she is very cool.

She never tries to push products on you, and I like that she is so confident and not all about clothes hauls and buying stuff for the sake of it. I think she is very real and relatable. I messaged her once (sad but true) about how she lost the weight and she literally replied an hour later telling me how she did it which is very sound.

    That's my two cents. :)

    http://www.independent.ie/style/fashion/style-talk/irelands-top-10-influencers-in-numbers-who-are-they-and-how-are-they-doing-it-36015990.html

An article in the Independent today of the top influencers (though no mention of SoSueMe oddly enough.)
She describes Lisa Jordan as someone who helps people dress like Kardashians with pieces from Penneys. Seemed like a bitchy remark to me, if not inaccurate.

    I thought the same.

Now in saying that, I take her recommendations with a pinch of salt, as I do with all influencers.

Anyone follow Ger The Filter Fella? He cracks me up.

I don't know if he is an influencer though as he doesn't promote anything (as far as I know, I am open to correction on that though).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

I don't follow any of the Irish "influencers" - their choice of topics and interests just doesn't align with mine at all. And to be honest, most are influencers not bloggers. I want to follow people who have an opinion, and from whom I can learn something..

The vast majority of bloggers I follow are in the food & drink sphere. I enjoy
David Lebovitz who lives in Paris and was a pastry chef at Chez Panisse
Eliott Clarke (aka Apartment Bartender) who is a cocktail blogger in Arizona
Michael Procopio aka Food for the Thoughtless
Frankie Cooke - a knowledgeable Irish wine blogger

When I was working in Amsterdam, I used to use a lot of local bloggers there to help me keep on top of new openings and hotspots - Cityguys.nl and BySam.nl

I started following him about a month ago and the constant filters annoyed the f*** out of me so I removed him.
I actually asked him if he used filters on every Snap all the time or did I catch him on a bad day but he never replied.
    I doubt I'm missing much.

I have to say Laura's Views is fast becoming one of my favourite bloggers/youtubers. Love her no nonsense, no BS attitude. She's natural talking to the camera, she has a personality, she has her own interests etc. I like how she doesn't show us all of her personal life, if she doesn't show it we don't need to know it.
She's passionate about animal cruelty and is vegan and features this content, although it's something I don't have the same feelings about, I still find it interesting.
Lastly, she has gone up in my estimation by organising a few collections in her own free time around the country of clothing and health/beauty/sanitary products for women's refuge homes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,089 ✭✭✭✭LizT

She's one I would definitely trust, I don't think she has an ulterior motive behind promoting a product she likes and equally isn't afraid to give something a bad review (really annoys me when bloggers never mention any bad products/products they didn't like). Even with the fairy wands, she gave them an initial good review and then updated it when she had used them for a while and wasn't afraid to say she wasn't liking a few of the brushes.

Her, The Beautiful truth and beautynook are my favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭Gunslinger92

I personally think that makeup monster is hugely underrated. She's very down to earth, doesn't put up reams and reams of ****e on stories, just shows you what she's bought or been sent, tells you what she thinks and tells when to expect to read about it in an actual blog post.

I also like that she only shows half of her face! Some might find it a bit odd but I think it shows that she's not OTT in love with herself :pac:
