Seriously contemplating getting braces, so much so have booked in provisionally for August. Have always hated my teeth but never had the money or the guts to get them. I know of course it is a personal thing but woman in her early 40's, would you say go for it or stupid idea?

    Go for it.
Just be confident with them and you'll pull them off no bother.

    What about Invisalign??

I got metal braces seven months ago - at 32 years of age. Best decision ever and wish I had done it much earlier. Now I am so used to them I don't get conscious while talking and I don't mind the brushing after every meal. I opted for metal braces as I felt "invisible" braces are not worth the extra charge as one can still see them either way and I wanted a proper fix which I don't deem Invasilgn to be for my teeth.
It's been surprising just how many people told me they wish there were brave enough to get braces once I got them AND how many told me I had good enough teeth before also (not true, maybe they wanted to be polite ;)).
I'd say go for it, it made such a difference to my confidence already and I can recommend it. It's a lot of money but I view it as investment into myself :)

Go for it!!! Get the metal braces as they work faster and don't cost as much and they will take years off you!! I was 30 when I got mine and it didn't have any bad effect on me. The only thing is the amount of appointments you will have to go to and the cost of it. And always wear your retainers :)

Thanks for replies guys, I think I will bite the bullet and go for it, it will be the metal ones but hey what's 12 to 18 months out of the rest of my life, and good point it is an investment in ME

Go for it! I had them in my early 20's...thought I was ancient having them then  Best money I ever spent. I never used to smile in photos. I had the metal ones for 18mts...the time flies!

Absolutely go for it. I had them years ago in my teens, but my friend got them at the start of 2016 when she was 41. She's due to get them off soon and her teeth look fantastic. It'll be well worth it.

Absolutely do go for it - It it helps, think of it like this; teenagers get them and they are about the most thin-skinned, self-conscious beings in the known universe whereas you are a grown adult and well past all that agonizing :)

I know a couple of people who got them in their '30s and '40s and after noticing them the first time, I found I pretty much forgot that they had them until they got them removed and showed off their great new smiles!

Assuming your teeth are in need of them, I'd say definitely go for it!

A friend of mine had pretty crooked teeth, and got braces shortly before her 40th birthday. I'd known her a few years, and never heard her say anything about her teeth. I always thought it was a pity, as she had everything else going for her, and one day she just appeared with the braces.

She has them off by now, and looks great!

She said other people were genuinely very interested. And of course she was much more serious about the process, and conscientious, than the average teenager. She did say it was a bit odd in the orthodontist's waiting room - I recommended that she should borrow a kid, and pretend she was one of the Mums!!
