For those of you that don't know what community first responders (cfr) do, they're basically volunteers who are trained to respond to and treat certain emergencies such as cardiac arrests. They are dispatched along with the national ambulance service to calls within their operational areas. The idea being because they live in the area, they can arrive on scene before paramedics and provide life saving treatment when seconds count.

Training is easy and short, just learning CPR is even easier.

They also promote and provide training and knowledge on how to provide CPR and use an AED. Establish public access AEDs within their communities and raise awareness of them.

Its an entirely volunteer run scheme within communities supported by NAS and CFR Ireland (www.cfr.ie)

No experience is required to volunteer, training is provided and there are a number of roles other than responders such as fundraising, accounts, pr etc.

Cabinteely CFR are having an information night this Thursday the 22nd at 7pm in the local st brigids boys school. All are welcome, its a community info night not just for volunteers. There will be presentations and demos on the night. So if you're bored or at all interested come down!
