Erik Shin I love Berlin. It's a really great city full of life, culture and fun
The people are amazing they've been through the worst of times and are still funny and smart

Berlin is fantastic. Been twice now and would go again. It has everything - fancy new places, historic places, arty stuff, people are really friendly, the U Bahn works brilliantly and is dirt cheap. Love it :)

I have to admit, it's not the first place I'd think of for fun, but I might consider it

    Bayern Munich and Berlin??

Anyway..... I was in Berlin last summer. It is a beautiful city with so much to see and do, public transport is incredible and the people are largely very friendly. I will definitely be going back again. One word of warning though, it was very very very hot when I visited so be prepared for that.

Just back from there last week. Second time I've been and can't wait to go back. Easily in my top five favorite cities I've visited. Has so much going for it, something for everyone. If by some miracle you run out of things to do, head to Potsdam for the day. Stunning city and only 40 minutes by train. Think we payed about €350 each for flights and hotel so this is a great deal.

Berlin is my Favorite German City with Munich a close second :)

    Frankfurt is a f*cking kip.

I second this. The big advantage of Berlin is that it is a LOT cheaper than Munich. But both are great cities with a lot to do both in the city and the surrounding areas.

Berlin is the swingers/wife swap capital of Europe apparently :D
So this deal would be cheap at twice the price!

Lovely place, extremely clean and surprisingly quiet for a large city only tainted by the absolutely horrible, horrible airport you have to suffer through if flying with Ryanair.

It's not a kip but it's certainly boring, every seconds building is a bank. The bus tour literally talks about banks 90% of the time.

Well it is the HQ of the ECB and some major German Banks. The shopping area is classy and there is good eating and drinking in the Sachsenhausen area. The beer is good and so is the Apple Wine.

I visit 3-4 times a year and always enjoy it. It isn't a patch on Berlin but there is plenty to do.

It isn't a kip. But is a soulless place. If you are visiting Germany, as a tourist and tell someone in Berlin or Munich, you are going to Frankfurt. They will laugh at you. Even German's think it is boring and that says something. I have friends who were there midweek, a few weeks ago and were bored out of their tree, as bars and clubs were either closed or empty.

The shopping area in most German cities are incredible eg Koe in Dusseldorf, Kaufingerstraße in Munich etc. Munich is seen as one of the top shopping cities for Middle Eastern people for some reason.

The beer is good in pretty much every German City (Berliner Kindl is utter piss though).

I'm not saying its a party town - everyone is busy making money! But you can knock a very nice evening or two out of it if you know your way around.

Was in Berlin not long ago, booked flights with ryanair & some ( nice) hotel separate.
3 nights for around 185, all in.
Very easy to do on a budget.
    Great city

For Berlin, always check Aer Lingus re flights, esp midweek as they can sometimes come in under Ryanair's price, plus they fly to Tegel.

Last time I was there I accidentally ended up in a club on the last night until 5am. They reckoned they'd be closing about 8 or 9 because it was relatively quiet, being a Monday night.

There's a ton of stuff to do on the sightseeing front. Transport is excellent. Nightlife is pretty good. Good atmosphere around the place. Food and drink are pretty cheap compared to Ireland. Well worth a visit, seriously considering heading back at those prices.

All relative I guess, but there are some dog rough areas of Frankfurt, the area around the HBF has junkies all over the place.

The local clientele have a pole stuck up their ar$e and there's not really a thriving central place to go have drinks, it's spread out all over the place.

I don't know one German that would recommend Frankfurt, ffs even someone from Cologne would recommend Dusseldorf over Frankfurt. :D

Dusseldorf is a bit more posh than Frankfurt, the difference is the poshos live and work in Dusseldorf whereas in Frankfurt everyone makes a run for it on the weekend

True but that's true of most cities. It isn't my favourite German city (not in top 10) but calling the wealthiest city in Europe (and one of the world's most liveable) an "effing kip" is a bit simplistic.

Just back from a couple of days in Berlin. Would've like longer but it was a really nice city with a good mix of things to do, particularly if you are into a bit of history. Transport system is great and affordable. From the Ryanair airport to town was €3.40 for a single and took about 25 mins. The large park, Tiergarten, is worth taking a stroll too too and the victory column in the middle is worth going up for the sake of €3. Nice mix of architecture and if you get the bus tour you ll see some contrast between west and east. Good drinking options too, found a nice riverside bar called strandbar near museum island for when the sun is out. Drinking in public isnt an issue if you want to hang out by the east side gallery, etc. Weather was 24-27 Celsius.

Preferred it to Paris and Amsterdam, somewhere on par with Barcelona but Budapest and Rome are still my favourites. All down to personal choice though.

Berlin has one of the best nightlife scenes in Europe too!

So how exactly do you get this deal again? Still the same price?

It was £197 for me for a single room. Just search the dates leaving from dublin to berlin and when it asks which hotel you want type Centro Park into the search field on the left and click Go.

So any other boardsies fancy meeting up for a few pints over there?

O I thought it was hotel and flights for 202. So it's just the hotel and the flights are separate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 236 ✭✭bigwillie

I paid 202 english pounds for flight and hotel, an extra 11 pound off if you book with Quidco.
