That's a lot of effort for 1 cup.

Have an aeropress in work, makes really good coffee imo.

    Has this worked for anybody?

I've tried, but when trying to confirm the payment, a red blob comes onto the top of the page and nothing happens.

Have an aeropress already and it is really good coffee... I'd class it as my best coffee apparatus...

Ah, I'm trying to deliver to my home address on the assumption it was ok to deliver to Ireland. But it may need to be parcel motel or equivalent service to get this delivered.

Aeropress has arrived and the coffee tastes great. I selected the "LAS FLORES ESPRESSO" coffee and really impressed with it. Thanks OP

Yes I got very prompt delivery via parcel wizard.

I went with the Guatemalan coffee that they suggested for the Aeropress.

It tastes amazing. I think I am a convert after a few cups.

Brilliant. So glad I bought it. Must try out other coffees.

I think I might get a stainless steel filter instead of having to replace paper ones.

    Awesome, awesome coffee yoke.

I also ordered this got very quick delivery, was sent Thursday morning had it Friday night.

I ordered this out of pure curiousity would the coffee be any different than my Delonghi I got on a deal in Argos.

It's no better or worse than it, makes an ok coffee, I find all my coffee I make at seems somewhat weak no matter what kind of coffee I use or how much coffee I use.

For the money it's well worth it and it's easy to clean, but I'd probably use my Delonghi in the long run as I still have to turn it on to froath milk and I hate waiting for the kettle boil.

I find to make a good strong coffee for me I make an espresso from the aeropress then a normal coffee with the remainder and when I'm half way through add the espresso... Works for me...

For people saying about weak coffee from the aero press you need to make it this way for a nice strong cup.

Toward the end he sounds like a junkie waiting for a fix ha ha!

On a serious note, I use the inverted method when brewing, however I don't have the patience to wait three mins!!

Also use metal filters as I like a bit of bite to my coffee, I find the paper filters make it tooooo smooooth, need some of the coffee acids to get through to give it some oooomph!!

This is a great bargain for a great coffee maker!!

My Aeropress arrived this morning. Have to say it makes a pretty impressive cup of coffee for such a simple and inexpensive device! Glad I grabbed this BA!!

Receive items then cancel sub... You get the whole oh "please don't go crap were great and this is great" but just a few clicks and your done...

I subscribed to Pact a few years ago after seeing another BA. Back then the parcels found their way to Dublin if you just stuck a Belfast postcode on your address.

Anyone know if this still works? Obviously using Parcel motel or the like isn't really feasible with a coffee subscription.

Anyone know where best to get the permanent steel filters?

I got mine from a chap on eBay based in California.
Cheaper than buying over here, I'll try find a link but just search eBay and you should find it.

I've tried using this and my coffee was horrid! Bitter and rank. Was using Bailies coffee beans and a hand grinder.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong!! Anyone shed some light please?

Got mine today, will try it out tomorrow morning. 250g of coffee is really light for the price. I normally use a drip machine and doubt it would last 2 days.

You should be getting about 14 aeropresses per bag (so 17g per press).

    Good coffee is not cheap!

Really loving the aeropress but not viable to have a monthly subscription with delivery through parcel motel. Where else do people source their coffee. Based in Cork but direct online delivery would be ideal.

^^^^ €9+ a month for 250g of coffee? You must be joking.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

at 14 cups a bag that would be 40 euros + in a shop.

luckily the aeropress won't say no to cheaper coffee if it's more to your taste. cheaper preground is probably more suited to your drip machine than an aeropress though, the grind size would be different.

if you order individual bags, and don't have your own grinder, you can specify to have it preground for an aeropress. not sure if you can do the same with subscriptions(presume you can)

My usual is Aldi specially selected Java which is a very good coffee for the price. Comes out great in the aeropress as well. The brazillian coffee I got from Pact has a lot of tannins, meant to be a "chocolate shake" but I don't taste it. Maybe it's more suited to a shot of espresso than an americano which is more or less equivalent to the profile of my drip coffee. Still experimenting with methods, amounts, etc but so far doesn't compare.

For the hell of it I ordered 3x250g varieties from dodo and badger so I could compare them all back to back. Was a bit unhappy to pay so much for them to grind it. Do you know what the difference in grind is between drip and aeropress (finer? coarser?).

Honestly I'll be happy if my uncultured tastes prefer Aldi overall as I have many other vices to indulge.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

the preground stuff, like that aldi stuff, is usally a much coarser grind as it's used in french press/ drip machines where finer grind would make it through the filter. aeropress grind will be much finer, almost espresso grind. advantage is you don't need to brew it as long so you lose the sourness.

i have a drip, a capsule machine(lavazza, much better than the nespresso rubbish), a french press, an oomph, and a few others and the aeropress is my favorite by far. i've tried that aldi, and it's passable, but not something i'd look forward to drinking, and i drink a lot.

as you said, if you don't see the difference, you've a nice cheap solution. i still think you won't get the most out of the aeropress with the coarser grind, but if you're not tasting it anyway what's the harm.

it's the same as not being able to taste the difference between a can of tennents down your local tesco and a local craft beer, you get the same hit of the alcohol/caffiene and you keepa ton of money in your pocket!!

balked at the price? 30 euros(15 on this deal)? believe me it's delivers better coffee per euro than any other maker. it makes better coffee than machines 10 times it's price

Most coffee shops in Cork have been selling it for €40

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

okay. "balking" at 40 euros seems a bit strong, but i get that value is relative.

if you don't like the idea of the original deal, then here is a cork supplier at 32 euros. https://badgeranddodo.ie/shop/equipment-aeropress/ if the cork shops are charging 40 maybe that is a bargain too. most places i;ve seen are in the 3x, argos have it for 36.

(that's the second time in this thread i've recommended b&d, just to confirm i have no connection to them other than as a frequent and extremely satisfied customer)

Here is a great bargain alert. A lot of people can't tell the difference between products. Some of it is just the way we are wired eg an ice pop company in the US removed food colourings from its icepops only to discover without food colourings, most people could not tell what the flavours were. I know people who honestly can't tell the difference between a €2 bag of coffee or a €15 bag of coffee.

Research shows a lot of people are choice blind.

It is not just you. I imagine, if you filled a room with guests and asked them to tell which is the premium coffee or the cheap coffee. Most could probably not tell

This is true for the vast majority of people but if you've had good fresh coffee you know what it tastes like. I would 100% be able to tell the difference between freshly roasted coffee vs standard store bought stuff.

Nothing wrong with the store bought stuff either as many coffee snobs would have you believe! The bargain here is more the aeropress + coffee rather than the coffee, aeropress is typically €32 alone

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

the opposite is also true. there are those who won't acknowledge the difference because the pleasure of getting the bargain is the important bit, so the more expensive product isn't better simply because it would lessen the bargain.

luckily both exist, because without them the choice of cheap and expensive coffee wouldn't be there. calling it cheap versus expensive just plays to that arguement. i'd prefer a bag of wholebeans to grind just before brewing to an expensive preground coffee that's been ground and sat on the shelf for a couple of months

not always about the sticker price

Amy recommendations for pre ground coffee to use with this. I know fresh ground is the best to use but not always an option for me.

I paid €27 to have 3x 250g ground sachets delivered from Badger & Dodo. I must say all 3 choices are tasty and unique. Now normally I'm happy with my ground coffee from Aldi but this has been a fun experiment. My poor drip coffee machine hasn't been used in over a week.

Not sure what other competitors there are in this space. Another was mentioned in the thread a few pages back but they were slightly pricier. I noticed a lot of options on Amazon during Prime Day but it's really just a shot in the dark.

There is also a coffee sub which might be worth searching for more recommendations.
