Men in suits

There's something ghastly about men in suits; the smug business-type you see around Dublin.

    Head cocked high, smarmy look...

And the worst part is that they're not actually successful!

They've nothing to look proud or arrogant about, yet many of them walk around in a haughty and hubristic manner.

It's an ego trip. They massage their own ego, talk loud in restaurants so everyone can hear "how effectively they've dealt with clients".

They're a pretentious mess masquerading as success.

    Yuck, yuck...yuck.

There's a inverse relationship between the amount of success one has and how arrogant one is.

Usually the most successful people are modest and down-to-Earth. There are exceptions, but usually unsuccessful people with an ego inflate their work and success in a pathetic attempt to impress others.

Who p1ssed in your cornflakes?? My opinion, most people look much hotter in a well tailored suit. So what if they aren't as successful as they feel in it, ignore them

So, you are psychic. You know the success and attitude of a person by looking at them. Seriously?

If they were wearing shorts and a t-shirt, the unsuccessful ones would never put on the pretense of success.

    Disgusting sexist post.

How dare you imply that women in suits are not smug or unsuccessful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 Trump_Wall

Jesus Boards really is the pits these days with crap like this appearing.

The reality is, whether you like it or not, that there are many groups in society desperate to be heard and seen.

The business-type person is only one such example.

You know who you're talking about when you see and hear them in restaurants. They need neighbouring tables to hear what they do, how they're great etc.

Whether it's a group of girls in a restaurant massaging their own egos or men in suits; it's a very unattractive trait.

It shows how insecure they are. I think it's important to call that out.

Aha, got you now. Hi again.

    That makes absolutely no sense.

I'm out of this sheer nonsense.

Every weekend it's the same old same old rubbish being lobbed up hoping for a reaction.

Do you reckon your man who invented fidget spinners wears a suit.

Penguins, when not looking like nuns, can look like they are wear suits and those guys are cool in my book.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a suit.

I'm suggesting that, for many people - particularly young professionals - many of them walk around in a haughty and hubristic manner.

I'm not talking about well-dressed people.

I'm talking about the subsection of young professionals (though not exclusive to them) who are desperate to be seen and heard and considered in some snobby, smarmy way.

I think some guys look good in suits. Suits look terrible on me. I hate wearing them. I have a fear of being buried in one.
I know one guy in particular who wears a suit and often is over dressed for situations. He reminds me of a guy selling gates in his shiny shoes.
I'm somebody who doesn't really care what people wears to be honest.
Suits used look nicer until Conor McGregor started wearing them!

I feel sorry for men in suits. I don't think a suit can possibly be very comfortable : tie = moderate strangulation at worst, warm weight at best and flapping bits, jackets and shirts are bound to be too warm and stuffy in many situations, trousers inflexible...
    All that for what ?
In my job, the boss could just as well wear clean and classy clothes and be just as respectable, IMO.
    I don't get apparel conventions.
I do get how some people enjoy fashion, but I really don't get the excessive importance some people place on pieces of fabric we use to keep warm, safe, and cover our modesty.

Having said that, OP you sound jealous and bitter in your OP.

Not true... but it's a nice fairy tale that many people like to believe!

Actually, you will find that the vast majority of the super successful people in this world, have a touch of arrogance and cockiness within their personality.

Some do a good job of hiding it, others don't... while some don't even see the need to hide it at all... But whether it's hidden or overt, it certainly is usually there.

And then there is a whole subset of people who like to "fake it till they make it"... so to speak. Some of these people may become successful at a later date, while others might fail.

If this kind of "acting" is actually backed up by something substantial in terms of talent, drive and intelligence beneath the surface... then it can work for them in the long term. But if it's merely empty bravado, then it obviously won't. And they will be the walking embodiment of "an empty suit". ;)

If you want to hear a distilled version of the kind of cocks referred to in the op, take a midweek flight to Heathrow. Mother of God. Loud conversations held for the benefit of everybody in the check in queue.

'Yaw I might swing another 50k for that deal, I mean like, what's 50k"

    Or

"I need you to get the whole team on the Jones account for me"

    etc etc.

    Yea we get it......KNOBS!

    (Men and women).

The thing is, I have been on flights to London City Airport where actual proper business people go, and they don't engage in this kind of ****ehawkery at all.
