This is looking like a truly spectacular course. Its going to play very long, but whats interesting about this, is the shape of these fairways.

    https://erinhills.com/golf/hole-by-hole/

Check out some of the flyovers, you'll get very excited (I got a slight horn).

You'd have to think a bomber will win this. Esker hills to Erin Hills? Who knows :D:D

Check out the scorecard, indexes 1/2/3 are all Par 5's (obv for the members).

Just wondering what the Irish connection is. (Why use The Shamrock logo and name "Erin" = Irish). Is is Irish owners or am area with Irish connections?
All set up for Rory I think..

The town Erin had it's name suggested by an early settler, John Whelan.

The opinions I've heard have put more emphasis on accuracy and short game skill than on length.

I think Rory is a busted flush. For now anyway.
Fantastic swing - that has never changed, but there's more to golf. At the moment he doesn't have it.

Good to hear. That's the way golf should be goimg IMO.

US open usually set up as a par 70 be interesting to see what way they play it this year.

7800 of the Blacks is heafty enough with all the par 5's over 600. Might play to the shorter hitters ironically as all become 3 shoters

Just looked at the photos and cant help but think its very much the course the Monty in Carton is trying to be

$280 green fee. Looks like money well spent.

i reckon it'll be thomas Pieters, i think casey could do well too.
Can't see Dj defending, mcilroy seems disinterested and Spieth and day are not firing either,
would love to see Lowry do well but he's too inconsistent at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,555 ✭✭✭valoren

    Justin Rose for me.

So Phill still may be playing apparently? Thought he had pulled out cause of his daughters graduation but then i saw him still in the betting markets.... looks like he will try and jump in a plane straight after the graduation and make tee off time. Phil just being Phil eh??!!

Is it too soon for Rahm?

Add Kevin Na to that list. This rough looks fairly handy to play out of :D

What was that last sentence? Couldn't make it out properly over the wind.

And yes, the rough is mad stuff. Clearly you can't miss fairways or you're back to the tee for another go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭Dbu

Justin Thomas and a small one on Lowry

Think he said "Now why can't we have a lot of the past U.S. Open winners get together and set up a major? I would like to see that"

Think he needs a weather delay if he's going to make it

That's what I thought. It was just so ludicrous that I felt I may have misunderstood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭ronjo

So Mickelson needs a 4 hour delay to make his tee time. I am surprised the school didnt change it around for him.

I'd like to see Kevin Na record another 17 on a hole in a tournament again

Just saw the course is a Par 72 this week first time in 25 years the US Open is being played on a Par 72 course. Not that it makes any difference at all but they must be doing this to give the impression it's a lower scoring tournament.

even though the rough is long, the fairways are pretty wide, i heard Lowry on sky this morning saying he feels good about the place

practice suspended due to dangerous weather. With the course set up, they could be in for a rough couple of days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭ForeRight

Looks like they've cut the rough back after all the whinging

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭ForeRight

Rory isn't happy about the rough being cut back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Jaysus the whinging is pathetic .

Most of ye are multi million pound pros - your balls are free. Get on with it.

And guys that are not top level pros are just delighted to be playing in a US Open.

The tour is the tour - the major is the major - the course is the course. We love golf and a bit of variety . This banging a driver anywhere and ending up a wedge away and 15 under or less - is what you do all the time.

Kevin Na - hurry up anyway.

I assume the rain has made the thickest of rough unplayable? I hope they allow other areas grow and don't water the greens as much now

Rory's thoughts on the rough below. Completely agree with him.

Well said Rory a guy who grew up on championship links. And won in wind and rain.

Looks like her . Going around with your misses on the back of your phone in her knickers is cringe at best .

I know she is a cracker . But jaysus Paul. Maybe head off into the rough with her later instead.
