My prayers to the victims families and that hostages will be released.

    Extra hugs to who?

The reason behind the incident remains unclear.

A Victoria Police statement said: “Police are investigating whether the incident is terrorism related.”

They would rebrand and with help from the US and Britain they would reappear years later calling themselves something else.

God I find these openers depressing. A total lack of care for what's actually happened, just a spiteful little dig. I don't understand how people can be so devoid of empathy that their first reaction to the terror and pain of another human being is what amounts to "nyah nyah!"

As useless as "extra hugs and love" may be, it's still probably a better answer than using it for your own petty agenda in safety half a world away from the pain, misery and death.

    It's sickening. All of it.

I have no prayers and nothing I can offer but the hope that the people involved will be able to move on from the horror they suffered and the family of the dead man can heal.

Not even a shred of evidence yet that its ab"terrorist" attack but p.o. throws it straight into the thread title.

Sounds more like a love triangle situation to me but will wait for the facts to come out before commenting further.

And they hold that against you too nowadays.

    Pesky facts.

People who react to atrocities with X-factor style emotional outbursts and pointless trendy 'love and hugs' crap deserve all the ridicule they get. And you can add #prayfor[insert latest attack here] to that.

If they put that energy into asking the difficult questions we would be out of this mess a lot faster.

Unlike some theatrical drama queens, I have no emotional attachment to the victims in this case. Harsh, but true. And it's utter pathetic when you see people trying to outdo each other for the most tear-jerking, heartfelt social media whoring post.

May i suggest seriously using your own logic on to yourself.
The people who want to offer love and care to the perpetrators HAVE asked the serious questions of themselves. They see that inciting violence of any nature increases violence. They know the violent agenda at play is furthered by creating division.

You, however, may want to ask yourself why you are so emotionally detached from the victims, and the perpetrators. Are you afraid of something to try ask that? To try form that connection? Was there something missing in your life which failed to teach you how to connect on that level? How come that attachment is not present for you? Why did you call others who have that attachment theatrical drama queens instead of acknowledging them as normal people with good empathy? Of course, they have some ignorance, so do i, so do you.

I suggest you read the link.
The Herald Sun can confirm the gunmen is known to counter-terrorism police.

A male caller to the Channel 7 newsroom in Melbourne said: “This is for IS” and “this is for Al-Qaeda.” The station said a woman could be heard screaming in the background.

A Victoria Police statement confirmed police are investigating whether the incident is terrorism related.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

Oh hang on, you're trying to do the 'It's not 100% fully proven yet, so we don't know yet!"

Shortly followed by "OK it is proven now, but he was mentally ill! This has nothing to do with Islam/it's the West's fault for bombing them/it's not that big a deal/more people die from car crashes than terrorism/everyone is racist" repeated ad infinitum...

Some contradictions in your link though
Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp said police did not have any communication with the gunmen during the two hour seige.
Mr Crisp said the identity of the gunmen was yet to be confirmed and police did not know whether the man and female hostage were known to each other.

SITE Intelligence Group are reporting via Amaq News Agency that ISIS have claimed the attacker as one of their members:

All the indications so far are that this was a terrorist incident.

I mowed the lawn. ISIS didn't claim responsibility. Too much like hard work. If I spill my beer, there's a chance they will claim they did it. Useless cnuts. Good for wrecking, not so good for building.

When I lived in Melbourne 4 years ago i worked in a warehouse for a while in Dandenong. There was a guy arrested for being a suspected member of al Qaeda in the neighbouring warehouse. I worked with Iraqi Pakistani and Indian people mostly. One guy was from mousil. Close to where they found bin Laden. He said it was a pack of lies and no way was bin Laden there .he also hated Americans. I'm really not surprised about this attack. Brighton is quite a rich area.I would have thought an attack would have happened in the cbd where there is much more people.

The identity of the gunman has been confirmed? A 29 year old Somalian. Apparently this guy was charged with plotting a suicide attack several years ago but was acquitted. He has since committed armed robbery and been to prison. So well known to police anyway

I think you'll find mosul is half a continent away from where they found bin laden so I'd say he was talking through his hoop.

Melbourne siege ‘a terrorist attack’, says Australian PM

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/asia-pacific/melbourne-siege-a-terrorist-attack-says-australian-pm-1.3109166

This should clear it up for the smart alecs who were patting themselves on the back in this thread.

Now I await your grovelling apologies. Or will we descend into ludicrous 'just because the PM says it's a terrorist attack doesn't mean it is!" lefty denial logic.

Oh, and you can change the title to confirmed terrorist attack now MODS. Thanks.

The indications all along were that this was a terrorist attack, and was reported as such.

I am now CONFIRMING it was a terrorist attack. If facts bother you, that's your problem.

Perhaps my posts come across as a little bit gloating in retrospect. So for that, I apologise. But from my perspective, it seemed like a few of the usual suspects were trying to ridicule the idea that this was a terror attack. And continue to get cheap shots in even after it has been confirmed.

So I was also like them to admit that they were wrong, and my initial assessment (based on the available information) was indeed correct. However, some of those individuals have a habit of showing up in the same threats attempting to downplay or 'spin' the reality of the situation. It's a recurring problem on boards, and it's straying into trolling at this point.

Anyway, I'd like to move on with this. The important thing is that the situation was resolved quickly. But once again, we have a known terror suspect engaging in violence.

So that's 1 innocent person murdered, 3 police shot, 1 terrorist dead, and 1 hostage scarred for life.
