When it's totally full and loaded properly.

    It runs more efficiently then.

2 people in our house and it goes on 2-3 times a week.

    Don't have one to run.

Waiting for the "Run her? Why let her out of the kitchen?" joke!

Once a day. Some others in my home don't believe in reusing a glass or a cup.

I've a countertop one that is put on once a day. Seems to do the two of us.

For those running theirs 2-3 times a week, do you not find it begins to stink a bit?

Same here. MrsTeal is pushing for one. 2 adults and an infant, we really don't need one.

Nobody needs one as everyone has a sink and can handwash but it makes life just that little bit easier.

Almost every day. Sometimes I only have a cereal bowl but am running late and do not have time to empty the dishwasher from the night before so just put it in and wash the lot all over again.
I really do not like the idea of dirty dishes rotting in the dishwasher for a couple of days.
There are different settings to use so we do not have to feel bad about using for a light load.

Two adults and a toddler here and it makes the kitchen so much tidier. I just don't have time to wash a cup or plate every time I use it so it would sit there waiting to be washed. Now it's out of sight out of mind.
Once a day before we go to bed. It's a smaller one than normal.

Usually once a day...two adults two kids over 10 in our house. We usually let it fill up during the day and put it on late at night on an eco cycle.

3 times a day. Two adults five kids in our house.

It does a little...I just keep it shut and fill as quick as possible when it does get opened. 2 of us and a run every 2nd night does unless there's a big dinner done and the family are over.

Once a day or every second day, we have solar panels so bar the tablet it is free. New enough machine so typically will use less water than hand washing.

I think even older dishwashers are more economical than washing by hand.

    That's just silly.

I don't use the dishwasher, it's quicker to just wash them in the sink.

    Solar panels run the electricity?

So leave the bowl out and put it in later on when you do have time. You're not saving yourself any time by doing it your way (in fact you're costing yourself time) and you're costing yourself money. What you're doing is bizarre.

And if they doesn't convince you, dishwashers are one of the leading causes of domestic fires. All of the advice is to never leave it running when the house is empty or when everyone is asleep.

To answer the OP, 2 adults, 1 child, one baby and we run it every 3-4 days. Probably every 2-3 days if everyone is off work and at home. Although we do washing up of pots and pans and kids' stuff every night. We could theoretically fill it on a daily basis.

Even if we had one, there aren't enough dishes and plates in my house to only run a dishwasher only every 3 or so days!

Yes, we have one set for hot water and one set for electricity, with the overproduction fed back into the grid.

That is totally ridiculous and a complete waste of water and energy. Only costing you money.

No need to wash a cereal bowl in a dishwasher anyway.

I have dishwasher, but only a spoon and bowl. I let the dog lick them clean.

This reminds me of the 'How many times do you shower' threads where people shower about 4 times a day.

What's there to debate? Every household is different.

We run ours 3-4 times a week. Roughly every other day, when it's full. It's a household of two.

If putting it on every other day, no, no stink. If left for a third day, which happens very occasionally, yeah maybe. But not always. I'm putting it on this evening, last time was Tuesday and there is no stink. It depends on what kind of staining is on the wares in there.

    2 adults, 2 kids here.

Do lots of home cooking from scratch and a lot of baking too.

Dishwasher runs every day, sometimes twice.

I let mine have a run out to the pub every evening, AFTER he's finished the dishes.

I'd love a dishwasher. Feckin hate washing up. To me they seem very fancy but everyone has one it seems.

Haven't used the dishwasher in 6 months.

Only use it now if we've had a crowd over and there is a heap of plates etc.

If I don't have time to clean my bowl & mug in the morning, I'll give it a quick rinse and fill it with water.

Then when I'm cooking dinner in the evening and standing around waiting, I'll clean up.

    Clean as you go, yo!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭notsoyoungwan

Twice a week usually. If I'm doing batch cooking etc at weekend it'd go on daily.
    Just me in the house.

Thanks for reminding me. I have been meaning to run it just to blow the cobwebs out of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

We have 6 bowls and 2 people here so we normally run the dishwasher once every 3 days when the bowls are all dirty and we want clean ones for breakfast the next morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,514 ✭✭✭bee06

2 person household and I'd say it's been used 5 times in the last 2.5 years. Only when we have loads of guests for dinner

Two adults and it runs once per week. Sometimes twice, if we have people over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

    2 adults, 2 kids.

Run it about 4-5 times a week on average I'd say.

We never had one growing up. Always was dying to get one when I moved out as hated doing it by hand. It lived up to the hype, I wouldn't be without one now. Essential purchase imo.

At least once a day, sometimes twice.
