    The trailer looks good.

I know Denise Gough, she grew up in Ennis... I was in the same class as one of her sisters :pac:

Jaysus, so far this is full of drab interiors and depressing characters.

Amazing how Paula got visited by Rats, and not the Slob Brother.

Is this supposed to be set in England or Ireland?

I suspect it's in Ireland somewhere (it's a BBC NI Production, RTE gave them a few quid to get to show it first, like The Fall)

Ireland... the mention of a large drink annoyed me .

None of the characters are likeable so far.

It's very confusing seeing as it was obviously filmed in the UK

Nice Jameson Whiskey product placement there.

It's a bit late to be asking about partners AFTER doing the deed :D

I hope he cleaned himself after his Rat Catching, before they got down to business.

God, the image of the child was seriously disturbing.

This is the weirdest thing I watched on TV in a while, not loving it so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,585 ✭✭✭✭Lady Chatterton

I'd love some property porn, all the houses are so yucky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

I'm getting flashbacks to Amber (the drama about the missing girl from a few years ago)

Maybe she'll pop up in the Chemistry Class.

So Rat boy is going to blackmail her and her married lover... the penny is dropping now.

Jesus this is the most miserable half hour of TV I've seen in a while.

    That escalated quickly

Christ this is fairly dark.....I'm actually looking forward to watching Vincent Browne at 11pm, I'll be glad of some light relief.

Headmaster "Do you think I'm a F**king Idiot?"

Paula "That's not for me to say in fairness ... It's a joke, of course I don't"

That's not what you would say to a Headmaster when your job is on the line ... they are not known for their sense of humour.

Between Broadchurch Redwater and this I'm never going near a cliff or water again.

At least with this accents are at least plausible.

Anyone know if this is being shown in mainland Britain or is it just NI ?

Just watched it. Conor McPherson isn't quite as talented as he thinks he is. Given this is only three hours long you'd have thought he'd have got on with it a bit sharper, as it is elements are still rather murky, esp the relationship within the house of skangers. The psycho/hallucinogenic elements seems rather random at this point.

She's an excellent actress. Never heard of her before. Was she ever in anything on RTE?

Don't know about rte but she was a leading character in Guerrilla on Sky Atlantic recently!

Reminds me of the Conjuring 2 and its belief that council houses are huge, rooted perhaps in the portrayal of Sherlock Holmes' supposedly dowdy little flat in the Basil Rathbone movies.

She was in Jimmy's Hall and a German-funded Dublin-shot Titanic miniseries, but she's not done RTE work, mostly BBC shows, Casualty, Holby, Silent Witness...

Set in Dublin, shot in Belfast.

True, RTE have been doing this for decades. Putting a few quid to anything Irish-set, the Irish RM, the BBC adaptation of Good Behaviour with Molly Keane, the Price, the Hanging Gale, and things barely anything to do with Ireland - a couple of PBS plays sometimes but not always about Ireland e.g. Bronte - a one woman show with Julie Harris directed by Oscar-winner turned TV movie maven Delbert Mann, Peter Brook's version of the Mahabharata (because it starred Ciaran Hinds), some C4 opera, HBO/BBC Scotland's Animated Tales of the World, the Lilac Bus, some Dick Francis plays that because of RTE/Canadian funding had their settings changed to Ireland and Canada, with the likes of Niall Toibin popping up, and Brides of Christ - the 1991 Aussie miniseries set in a Catholic girls' school in 60s Sydney, which RTE co-funded as Brenda Fricker was the star, as well as helping the likes of Trimark, Artisan, Miramax, the Isle of Man Film Commission, New Line, BBC Films, Film 4, etc on the likes of the Last of the High Kings, Frankie Starlight, My Left Foot (though not the Field - that was Granada), I Went Down, Beckett on Film, etc.

Set in Dublin, shot in Belfast.

There's a scene around 32mins in of her on a beach with the Poolbeg chimneys in the background

    I am enjoying it.

And a shot on the Ha'Penny Bridge, but those were probably a day or two shooting, and then back to Belfast for the main stuff.
Anything not recognisable landmarks is Belfast.

Dark stuff but intriguing and I'll watch the remaining two episodes. It escalated so quickly that you can see why it's only a three parter. Some of the later scenes will show Gardai and their squad cars in Belfast City - that will have raised a few eyebrows.

This is a good drama and does not look like it is going to be restrained. The right feel is here like in Love/Hate and The Fall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭mollser

Good lord this show is most unexpected. .. psycho stuff! ! The trailers didn't make it out to be this horrific lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

    WTF?

This is a bit all over the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

    This show is completely daft.

So she's slept with the teacher, the creepy guy who killed him and now the lead investigator....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

    This is horrendous.

They've hired terrible actors to play complete morons as part of a ridiculous plot.

It'd be a massive success if it was supposed to be abysmal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,378 ✭✭✭BuilderPlumber

Just watched the second episode and it flew past. I enjoy this. It is something different. Certainly an antidote to all these restrained stuff we have been seeing since Love/Hate ended in 2014 and this is the best drama I have seen since that series. This is like the Love/Hate series 2 Luke and Mary story taken to a more gruesome level. I think Paula needs to ask the question of where is Nidge when you need him to take a psycho to his death in the Dublin mountains! That's if this James guy would not frighten even Nidge away.

Is Paula the baddie in all of this. Every man she comes in contact is doomed . . .

His eye was gouged out and seemed perfectly fine a few minutes later. I thought he was a dead man walking but a police man tried to hold him back from approaching Paula as she was lead into a police car so unless they all see ghosts  All a bit strange
