It's 5pm here for anyone wondering.
So we get Shibata wearing the hat with eyes?
    Metroid incoming?
    Free money for all?

Free money and then you have to beg and plead with Nintendo to take the damn money and give you Nintendo stuff. :D

I'm assuming the spotlight thing is a direct in all but name? Or we'll get a direct before E3, then spotlight, then treehouse?
Be odd if they didn't mention the virtual console and online services at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I assume spotlight is just their way of differentiating it from a normal Direct. Like calling it a digital event

I bet they'll show Arms again. Maybe arms demo on the e-shop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

They have the Arms and Splatoon 2 tournaments

Nintendo Australia has called it a digital event instead of a spotlight, so hooray. Wonder what the gag'll be this year.

I would possibly need a change of underpants should Dark Souls be announced for the Switch, I would need to be resuscitated if it turns out to be a trilogy pack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,286 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Steep has long been rumored for switch not sure if I'd bother.

There is a special place in hell for you an arcade with infinite coins to use in the machines but each and every coin slot is busted.

We're on the cusp of awesomeness, with the E3 only around the corner and, hopefully, some surprises from Nintendo.
But... what could they be I wonder?
Realistically, I wonder if EA are going to fast track development, it would be foolish of any publisher not to invest in Switch development now.
From software have three announcements, one of which is bound to be Bloodborne 2, one perhaps an Armored Core title, but the third one?
I'm hoping they will consider the Switch as a viable platform tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,572 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Hoping for lots of big surprises.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,141 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I'd love to see a 3D, 3rd person person perspective Metroid, maybe Switch to 1st person for shooting and scanning. A game built on the best bits of Other M and the Prime series.

I want loads of surprises and lots of proper 3rd party AAA support. Despite everything the Switch still only sits on about 4 million units sold. 3rd parties aren't going to wet themselves with glee just yet.

would love another 3ds zelda in the form of a link between worlds or another multiplayer zelda game triforce heros 2

I don't think it's going to be a bombastic E3 from Nintendo, a few surprises I'm sure but we're not going to be getting a Direct with Metroid, F-Zero, Bayonetta 3, Dark Souls all in the same video :P, at least I'm pretty sure we won't. I think we're long past the point of 'unless they have a Metroid it's a disappointment' right? :p at least we should be.

A few good surprises would be nice, potential titles for next year will be important. I could easily see Smash being teased around the same time they launch the online service, something like that. A confirmation of Xenoblade this year would be good as well. Might get to see what Retro has been working on all this time. I live in hope for a Wonderful 101 port or sequel but very unlikely I would say. Mario Odyssey, from their previews, will be a big part of it so will be good to hear a lot more about that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Remember Wonderful 101 made its first appearance at E3 and wasn't in the Direct? It was just featured in one of the online shows.
Devil's Third was also just revealed on IGN the same year, I think.
So while the main showcase mightn't seem the best place for some games, it doesn't mean they won't get a showing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Well the Direct tomorrow for Pokemon means one less thing to spend time on in their showcase

A main Pokemon game has never been announced at E3 so just follows par really. Looking forward to the Switch plans for it even though not a Pokemon player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

As an aside from software, I hope Nintendo give some more concrete details on how their online service will work (will it have free games every month etc.), virtual console details (including transferring previously purchased vc games for different consoles), and finally 3rd party "channels" like netflix, Sky Go etc.

  • Hoping for some show of support from 3rd party devs.
Hoping for some news on VC and an actual substantial update to the OS on the Switch.
    And Super Mario of course

Switch has had a strong launch. Basically, if a game is cross platform across all formats, I will buy it on Switch rather than Xbox One. I never thought I would say that, but the ability to take the game with me far exceeds any graphical improvements.

This is a big E3 for Nintendo. Hope they deliver.

Broken record, but it'd be great to see some Metroid stuff. Not convinced on the 3rd person/1st person switching like Sligeach suggested, I'd rather see it proper 2/2.5D, or fully 1st person (like the Prime games)

5PM this day next week and the wait will finally be over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Leaving work early that day. Thankfully only takes about 5 or 10 mins to get home.
So come in at 830 and leave at 430. Be home in loads of time. Then it's a case of finding the best stream to watch.
I think youtube is usually my preferred one for the Directs

I hope Nintendo remember they have the Treehouse and so don't spend too much time focusing on one game. Like announce the game, have a brief trailer and move on. I think outside of the Testfires, the Treehouse sold Splatoon better than the E3 presentation did. Same with other games announced.

Wonder if they'll do that very Nintendo thing, where they show something then tell us it's on the eshop after the video?

Part 1 of the BotW DLC perhaps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,572 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    VC or NESflix?

    v3.0 of the OS? Skinnable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

A big Pokemon reveal followed by Magikarp Jump : Switch Edition!
Maybe with a new Way of the Karp 1st person mode so you can experience the thrill of the jump like never before?

EA's Press Conference is on tonight at 8PM. I'm thinking EA won't show the Switch version today. They probably don't want it detracting from the main version. I can see it being shown during Nintendo's Direct, but just a brief glimpse though and then it'll disappear until just before release. I think its stench is so bad they don't want to scare everyone away too soon. It could be embargoed right up until launch. It's happened before with other games on Nintendo hardware. We'll see.

The Sin and Punishment rumour floating around is left field but would be great. Although I think, along with W101/102, it is probably just a rumour.

That Sin & Punishment rumour has no basis at all. It's as believable as a "my uncle who works at Nintendo" rumour. Supposedly it came from some "guy working on the booths". That's clutching. Now what I would say in its favour would be that Star Fox Zero and S&P are kind of similar and Platinum Games have the experience and engine there to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Ya it probably has no basis, like a lot of stuff that comes out this time of year. I think the original supposed 'leak' said something like 'a Platinum games' type game it was, so who knows.

Ultimate Team is there anyway which is good. No Journey mode, don't think that's too much of a big deal. Some mode called 'Kick Off' just on the Switch version. No screens of it shown yet I don't think, just a poor resolution overlay in one of the shots. Hopefully it looks and plays decent.

    From the FIFA 18 site:

"With advanced rendering technology, FIFA 18 on Switch delivers the most technologically-advanced portable FIFA experience ever. Brand-new pitch environments, realistic character likeness, and new gameplay mechanics, all built for Switch.

With FIFA Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Switch Kick Off, and Local Seasons, FIFA 18 built for Switch offers fans more depth in modes than any other portable console."

I don't think the success or appeal of the Switch will depend of a Fifa game. If you want the full fat version, just buy it for one of the other consoles. Hardly a travesty!

If the Switch version plays well, that is all that matters.
