Waiting on 15%. Nutrient plan must be in or no € and 2017 delayed also. I text planner this week to make sure plan is in. No reply so I may take that as a NO.

On another topic, I look after farm for my father who will not be able to attend training day due to failing health. I read that I can go instead if he has a doc cert. has anyone done this? Don't want to show my hand until certain of requirements. In case anyone has forgotten, training day must be done before 2018.

No offense but it seems you didn't read the "terms and conditions" before signing up.

same as everyone else not paid yet. got an email to say its on the next payment run but wasn't told the reason for the delay.

had planner around during the week and they said its the same story all over. only a couple of people in the office looking after it.

To be honest my planner is WELL paid I would expect they would have told me what I need to have done over the 5 years before we started .

Or heard of anyone running them?
I thought I had read the ts&cs fairly well and this is the first I've heard of it

Is the training day not for the Bdgp scheme? First I've heard of it for glas too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,748 ✭✭✭ganmo

There's a safety course needed for tams too

No offense intended but it amazes me how some people sign up to a scheme like this without making themselves aware of the terms and conditions :(

Mandatory training must be attended otherwise payment will cease. If training has not been undertaken by Dec 2018 the GLAS contract will be terminated. The training day covers compliance requirements for GLAS, NMP, identification of noxious/invasive weeds, safe use of rodenticides and farm safety. One session (am or pm) training must take place on a farm that is GLAS farm.

Full doc is online. 2 pages attached. This doc has not been sent to farmers. It will be a good excuse to hold 2018 € if course not done SO SPREAD THE WORD.

Got a text this week to say no payment until Nutrient Plan submitted. Planner hadn't bothered in spite of getting my details last December and a few reminders during the year to do so. His payment will be delayed I'm afraid.

More importantly, FRS will be running one day Glas courses. To get on one you can ring 076 1113555 and they will post an "invitation" in a week or 2. Must be done this year for Glas 1 at least. If unable to attend due to health issue you can get someone else and medical cert.

I got a date but rang them to cancel as couldn't make so they'll send on another.

Is that direct word from Teagasc or a Private planner that if unable to attend due to illness a doctors cert will do and send a replacement person?

    Thanks for replies.

It's in Dept document, link to it in previous post, and I rang Glas helpline to confirm. Person attending signs own name and course giver does paperwork.

I wonder can you attend any training course or does it have to be with company that did your Glas plan ?

my planner told me yestarday that the software to submit the NMP wasn't ready by the dept until 2weeks ago, likw that he had all my stuff ready to submit but couldn't do so earlier

wouldn't surprise me as the whole glas thing has been a shambles since the start

That figures and is typical of gov depts. My NMP submitted 2 weeks ago following their text. Doesn't stop inspector coming out with his steel tape to measure the distance between plants in a new hedge. Neighbour had low input pasture rejected as grass was too good.

I'm still waiting on "invitation" to course but not holding my breath.

It was fine, we were inside in the morning. You could take in as much or as little as you wanted to. I saw one person on phone throughout whole talk! They went through everything really, personally I found it good as there were a couple of things that I was unsure about. Second half was on a farm, that was only about an hour and a half. We walked around, saw bat boxes, bird houses, heap of sand for bees, hedge planted, river wired off. Everyone had to sign in twice, once in the morning and again in the evening. Planner said dept are doing spot checks on course days to make sure people are doing them.

I got balance of 2016 payment this week having submitted NMP a couple of weeks previously.

Wondering if anyone has news of FRS Glas courses. I'm still waiting on the invitation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,808 ✭✭✭✭Water John

I think a few that had submitted their Glas Plans via Teagasc have gone and done the course with private consultants.

I’m with Teagasc but I did the course with an ACA planner. I rang FRS several time but all they’d say was i’d be called before Christmas.

Rang the private planner and got the course the following week. They are on the approved list.

I have to say there was some interesting stuff on the different options and some useful info as well but what’s the point now. Already 2 years into it so it’s too late really.

I would be proactive about this. Give the GLAS office in Johnstown Castle a ring asap. They are v helpful l find. Tel 0761 064 415.

Just say you are wondering what the penalty is about. They can explain the situation to you. Play dumb and hopefully it might be reversible.

Automated message saying they were flat out at the moment and to email in instead so I did that , might hear something tomorrow

On the GLAS course the trainer mentioned that a lot of people were getting penalized for not keeping the GLAS record sheet correctly.

So just wondering what records ye are putting into the record sheets for Low Input Permanent Pasture, Traditional Hay Meadow and Protection of Watercourses from Bovines.

I didn't get chance to ask the trainer and my planner is AWOL since I paid him for the NMP.

You don’t have to hand over the record sheets there and then. At the Glas training day (Teagasc/FRS) the planner said to say the sheets are with him and this will give time to get all in order.

for lipp record what date the fertilizer went out and how much/type
for THM record the cutting date/ was it turned twice for silage
watercourse - record what date it was fenced and every year after that just log a date that you checked it was stock proof

generic enough stuff and a lot of it is box ticking

    Your planner is incorrect.
According to the front cover of the Record sheets:

"Note: Record Sheets shall be kept up to date throughout the period of the contract. The participant must retain all Record Sheets at all times throughout the period of the contract.

A false or misleading statement may lead to disqualification, liability to refund any payments obtained and possible prosecution."

There is a 10% penalty (on the total GLAS payment) for the year of inspection if you fail on this element.

Your planner is telling you lies, it's been open for months. Know a good few that went in June.
