Does anyone use this? I was reading about it and it seems pretty cool. Like google maps but better - crowdsourced info about your journey, to avoid bad traffic or incidents etc. I think it even warns you about speed traps. Does anyone use it?

I used it in Romania. Lots of users over there so very up to date for potholes and checkpoints. You can see a lot of other 'wazers' driving around.

Tried it a few times over here and there wasn't the same community. Went back to google maps/NAVIGON.

I used it for a couple years but Galway is so small it's not really needed. If I lived in a big city like London or Paris I'd def use it all the time.

I have it on nearly every drive I make. Wish there were more active users, I report whenever I see things. Also used it when I lieved in the states where there were more users. Navigated my way around 26 states with it.

It has rampant use in Mexico City and it actually works given the immense traffic issues they have. Likewise in the States it seems to be the truckers choice of App so you'll be going down an interstate and get plenty of info e.g. Car pulled in ahead, road works, pot holes etc. It just doesn't have a community here.

If you keep using it, the community will grow by 1 ;)

Not only. Reports, POIs, street closures, and new streets are used too :)

Hello fellow wazer! I'm also using it every time I'm sitting behind the wheel! Also reporting, and do plenty of editing :pac:

I use it but rarely ever see anything marked up by another user.

You could have saved yourself time with your smiley fascination and checked out what crowd sourced data is, and how Google maps use it (despite your claims) to give you info about your journey, avoid traffic and road incidents.

Used to use it but no offline navigation or caching of maps meant I had to switch back to Google Maps.

Google does in fact use crowdsourced data to improve its product... in fact, google owns Waze and directly uses crowdsourced data from Waze in Google Maps...

I was the same, I love the idea of it but there just aren't enough people using it in Ireland so the traffic data isn't reliable.

@Bluefoam the argument was about traffic & road incidents. Is passive contribution of Google Maps users' GPS and speed data considered crowdsourcing?

Contribute/verify place details is another shtory.

    As I said...
Google owns Waze and directly uses crowdsourced data from Waze in Google Maps...

When you enter a piece of information into Waze,it can be directly used in Google Maps... Hence they are using crowdsourcing... & yes sourcing passive info from a crowd as opposed to soliciting information from a crowd is still crowdsourcing...

When you enter a piece of information in Waze, you are crowdsourcing for Waze and that's what I'm gonna do now because I've had enough..

I've often seen Uber drivers use Wave especially in foreign countries, but mind you I have never used Uber here at home yet so I can't comment on the levels of Waze usage in Ireland, but it is handy and I've often had my taxi and uber drivers navigate their way through big traffic jams with it.

So I used it on my journey and found it great. Gives you real time speed which is very handy. Twice I saw police speed checks and noted them - got thanked a few times. Wish more people used it!

I looked at it a few times and never really saw any activity around Cork so never bothered. How are you supposed to report stuff if you're driving? Sounds like too much of a distraction...

Use it a lot in Dublin, is surprisingly good for reports on the guards, accidents , people stopped in hard shoulders, and stuff like that. Seems to be only a few users around Dublin though, haven't seen any activity on it at all when I'm in Galway.

Find it very handy for the speed limits. It's spot on with the changes between roads and the handy beep if you go a little over.

Bumping an old thread. Just heard about Waze. What’s the opinion today on it? I like for the checkpoint part or speed vans

Only used it once of twice. If they could integrate it with CarPlay it'd be great.

It works great on Android Auto...

I occasionally use Waze, I find it more accurate on ETAs then gmaps, and it always offers you realistic alternative routes (whereas gmaps tends to be mostly the same route with strange diversions).

Waze is much quicker to adapt to oncoming road conditions, including congestion.

Waze and gmaps do share some information, but it's governed by private agreements between the two.

Waze is an Israeli company and Israel has very strict laws on sharing or sending IP outside of the country, which is why Waze still operates as an independent entity and why it only shares some but not all information with gmaps. I wouldn't be surprised if the lag between gmaps & waze's real time information is by design.

Think its brill myself, been a beta tester for years now. Reporting the cops/speed-vans/crash and slow-downs or seeing it pop up on my screen when others have makes it worth the download alone.

Its good for speed and speed limit indications, and speed vans etc. Also good spotify integration.

Waze has been acquired by Google in 2013 and they have 3 servers - Israel, USA, World. So I guess only data stored in Israel are governed by these laws.

Google maps traffic data only got integrated into Waze a few months ago. Myself and the other Country Managers coordinated this :)

The data use isn't governed by Israeli law, IP sharing is.

The point is that Waze and Google operate as separate entities with their relationship governed by commercial agreements. They don't present the same data or appear to use similar algorithms, which a simple side by side test shows. Similar goes for real time reports! As such, they aren't interchangeable and do different things.
