Any update on how Larry is at the moment? This is probably the longest time he has been away from 2FM..(off in 2002 and 2016)

I thought he would be around 120 at this stage.

And they wonder why 2fm don't have listeners

He was old and boring in my days of youth - and that was 35 years ago.

I'm sure he's a decent guy, but he is not suited for a youth orientated station.

he seems to be back , from the little bit I Heard the speech seemed slurred but still had the happy/ cheerful inflection to it , I Wish him well he still has a place and skill .

Goes to show the reach RTE Gold has! It's a pity that station isn't on FM so it can be picked up nationwide.

They've been repeating the Classic Countdown shows!

+1 the nature of RTE Gold is such that hearing a DJ on it is no indicator that they are even alive. And Larry never does intros for news (let alone nuacht) so you could play a 30 year old program featuring him on RTE Gold and nobody would be able to tell that it wasn't recorded yesterday.

Really sad to see pics of Larry in a wheelchair at the U2 gig.

I listened to larry this weekend for the first time in years, it was obvious he hasn't a clue what he's playing, there you go that was (looks at screen) BX1

The thing is, Larry is a contractor so they are not going to pay him to be solely on RTE gold. Leahy and crossen are staffers so they'll be living off the licence fee till they are 66 regards of what part of rte they're in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,093 ✭✭✭Rubberchikken

Doesn't matter what age he is imo, hes perfect. Professional pleasant knowledgeable knows when to talk and when to not. If he could only be cloned and a whole pile of 'presenters' could be axed.

If RTE was a normal station with a next generation of talent chomping at the bit to have a go , i'd be urging Larry to go but its such a dysfunctional organisation with no guarantee that a new talent will replace him and more likely a reshuffle of the talentely-challenged , that I'm inclined to urge him to keep going as long as he can and take whatever's going .

Or usually the offspring of one of the talently-challenged.

This should be a question on the sixty - second quiz for Larry, replying " well 83 didn't suit me so I'm 79 now "

Larry has been off air again on 2FM for the past few months, for the past 2 years this has been a twice yearly long break...Anyone know how he is?
Aifric O'Connell today filling in for him today, playing her own jingles.

Larry should sign off on his show now or come back next year for a goodbye show in 2019 during the 40th anniversary year of 2fm starting up

For the last few weeks, Conor Behan has been sitting in.

I miss the smooth, velvety tones of the big guy. :(

So when is he coming back to 2fm?

Or is it a case of WILL he be coming back?

Surely that call should be left to Mr gogan ? If anyone on the Irish airwaves should get to call his own shot so to speak it should be Larry Gogan.

I wonder why Larry's 2FM shows are now pre-recorded? He sounds the same as ever !!

He is inviting listeners to take part in the just a minute quiz, in advance of the following weekend shows.

I can't think of an exact explanation but I'd say it's because of his health/mobility issues
