Any takeaways serving roast beef/potatoes, like this?

So I was at the Dun Laoghaire Sunday food market last weekend and I got this box called the Hog box from the Goode Life food company (I think!).

It had roast potatoes, onions, pork and more inside and it was lovely. The type of food you'd normally only get in a sit-down restaurant.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere else in Dublin that does quick, takeaway meals like this. It was less than a tenner also.

I was googling and I found this article about it. (The pic there makes it look crap though!) https://lovindublin.com/reviews/the-farmers-market-hog-box-you-need-in-your-belly-right-now

Does anyone know of anything similar around Dublin? (Please note this isn't an advertisement or anything. I'm just a hungry guy who likes this type of food more than the usual takeaway food)

Hmm. Haven't really ever tried that.

I live in Terenure. Would you know of anywhere reasonably local to me where I could get a box of roast spuds/ onions, and any type of meat for under a tenner?

Usually those types of meals in restaurants are pretty expensive, and you have to wait ages.

not familiar with Terenure but it is possible to get a restaurant quality meal to take away where I live which is in the mid west region and price comes in around and under 10 euro.

Unhelpful post ðŸ˜႒: Link won't load for me. However, I subscribe to your quest. Never heard of this type of takeaway meal...also I'm not a million miles from Terenure. I fear if anyone posts a takeaway option nearby, my hope of making weight for next comp. will evaporate, sounds like perfect comfort food.

The thing about this is, I reckon it's a fair bit healthier than your average takeaway. It was extremely filling, which makes sense, when you compare potatoes to almost any other food on the satiety index.

I could easily eat a Chinese with rice and still be hungry afterwards. But with this I was stuffed halfway through it, and wasn't hungry for the rest of the day!

I'm actually trying to get my weight down for a contest too but I'd still enjoy one of these once a week!

Genuine question - would you not just cook it yourself? It's not exactly haute cuisine that you'd struggle to reproduce at home, in fairness.

Well that defeats the purpose of a take away. Especially for a meal like that which is slower to cook.

Yep. Plus, I'm an awful cook. I know if I tried to make it it wouldn't turn out half as nice!

Best bet is to check if there's somewhere that does that kind of food that work with Deliveroo.

This is from a Louth culchie, so pardon my ignorance, but don't most Centra/Londis etc do meat and two veg takeaways?

My thoughts exactly. My local spar does this... Costs about €6 a box/ tray thing.

Wouldnt nearly every bar/restaurant in the country do similar ?Loads of places in Terenure that should be more than happy to give you take away dinner.

As said above plenty of Spar/Centre do take away dinners.

Super Value do a variety of meals in boxes and trays at reasonable prices.
Saves on prep time and wasting leftover food that you might not get around to using.

Many carvery type places in my area will serve it in takeaway containers if you ask. When I was a student I worked in a well known pub carvery place near a hospital and lots of people would come in and collect dinners to bring to patients (or themselves) so I think it's common but not advertised if you get me.

I have tried the Spar/Centra ones and they're good value alright. However, I Think I recall that their spuds aren't "real spuds", but are made from those huge sacks of powdered instant potato mix. Those things usually contain dairy and dairy doesn't agree with me at all!

I'm going to Wellfest tomorrow but next time I get a chance I will pop in to my local pubs and see it they'll do a takeaway carvery for me. Thanks for the suggestions.
