What a cracking week Jessica Harrington has had. I get the feeling that it might get even better for her today with Sandymount Duke in the 5:00.

Stablemate Sizing Codelco backed as a heavy favourite based on a demolition job it recently did at Aintree, but I am starting to be of the opinion that this horse is more of a flat track bully whose form on an undulating tracks doesn't really stack up. That combined with a hefty 11lb rise in the weights make this one to avoid for me. Sandymount Duke on the other hand just looks chucked in off a market of 136, will have no issues with the track and will relish the good ground. Lightly raced O'Faolains Boy dropping down in class the serious threat for me. 8/1 win for me.

Absolute best value bet of the day for those with a Betvictor account is Special Tiara at 5/1 in the 3:00 at Sandown. Winner of this race two years ago, track and distance should be no problem, recent form where it beat Fox Norton at Cheltenham (which then went on to win the JLT and Punchestown Champion Chase) combined with Altior's less than impressive Cheltenham outing where it struggled to beat trees would suggest to me that this contest is a lot closer than the odds suggest.

Shabra racing colours doing a raid at Wolverhampton tonight I see. Temasek Star the obvious fancy, but Three Majors the better value for me. Winner at Dundalk off 59, now racing off a mark of 56 against inferior English opposition should see it very competitive. 5/1 best price more than fair.

Thoughts on Apples Jade at odds on?

I'd wait, she might drift out a bit. I think there's a bit of confidence behind Karalee, they reckon she might be up to beating AJ. Ruby is picking wrong all week though so Augusta Kate/Whiteout/Airlie Beach might be worth a few quid.

Augusta kate 6/1 now. I'm tempted

Yes I'd signalled this in the Rossom thread yesterday.

Temasek Star is 5/2. I expected it to be a lot shorter given his form with Locus Standi.

Three Majors. I have been following this horse for a while. The previous connections nearly landed a punt on this back in January when it was with Paul Deegan. It was beaten a nose and had Rigid Rock and Arbourfield in behind. Rita Shah must have only recently bought it. 6/1 wont last long if its going today!

Don't think this is anyway near the bet of the day when the machine that is Altior is the horse that has to be beaten

Haha, I've mentioned the entire field! I'd say back Apple's Jade at evens or better or Augusta Kate e/w.

Quite keen on Apache Jack at 40s in the 3.10. Encouraging run in fairyhouse and I think the step up will suit today. Have to put a line through most of his chase starts but has some very nice back form, mainly over hurdles, that suggests he's very well handicapped.

That's my favourite performance of the season there from Menorah. Brilliant stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Menorah is some horse around Sandown. One of the best tracks to see a fluent jumper go from fence to fence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,956 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

    Retired on a high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Menorah gets a well deserved retirement, what a way to go out. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭NaiveMelodies

Loved that reaction from Menorahs owner. Pure.

    Richard Johnson keeping him !

    Owner very emotional on ITV.

You can tell he loves his horses, great to see him retiring him at the top. Most would get greedy after such a good performance but he really cares about his horses.

Only a bit of banter. The English have been waiting awhile for one like Altior.

    I hate this type talk.

Special Tiara was rated 124 when wining his first Grade 1 at Aintree 4 years ago. Won the Desert Orchard Chase twice, beat Sprinter Sacre 6 lengths in A Grade 1 at Sandown, was taken out it by the winner of the Tingle and won a Champion Chase this year beating Fox Norton. Has won 3/4 of a million in prize money. Now rated 168.

Yeah not much of a yardstick.

Small field for The Whitbread but it might do fine for Doing Fine.

he's 10 years old and only won a champion chase by default , fox Norton is nothing special either a 50 % sprinter sacre beat special tiara and uds by a mile the year before

Amazing that some jockeys and cameramen still don't know the difference between the chase and hurdles winning posts at Sandown.

Probably the best even money shot to run in a long time

Some drift on Meri Devie now 8s. She was 5/2 antepost fav. Vibes are terrible and she's probably just running for prize money but I have to go in at 8s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭NaiveMelodies

How many 5 year olds have won 5 grade ones? Fairplay to her.

When it all clicks with Dinaria Des Obeaux she'll run up a sequence.

I have a sneaky feeling Dirty Davy's on the right one.

There will be very poor pockets if Darkanna is beaten today Donny 5.25.Like all first time outers you don't know how they react but she is very very smart.

Why so ? Has drifted like a barge.

If the market is anything to go by Clive Cox's colt, KodiTime must be very smart.

    Fillies are for kissing anyway.

Marinero, a cracking price at 14/1 in the 5 O Clock.

2nd a few runs back to some pretty alright handicapper called Thistlecrack.

Nosebanded himself FTO, should have noticed that.

If you think the first one was dodge, wait til you see Three Majors. Really needs to be dropped on the line.

I thought Kelly was going for the easy option going for the rails. Horse was having none of it!

Three Majors should win if everything falls his way. Hectic pace please.
