Scuffed alloy on my 2 month old car

    I scuffed the drivers side alloy on my 2 month old Peugeot 3008 - encounter with a kerb in Fleet St carpark :( It's diamond cut and unfortunately pretty badly damaged. Any recommendations as to where I could get it repaired & the ballpark cost Thx

    Price the cost of new wheels from Peugeot, they aren't usually the worst for wheel prices. Diamond cut is difficult to repair, Lepsons in the Uk would be able to do it perfectly but the cost will be up there.

    Few places do them but the finish isn't at all as reliable as factory.

    I guess I'll price a new wheel from Peugeot and email a few repair places. Nearest to me is www.wheelwizards.ie I'm thinking that the scratch may be too deep to repair?

    Rim Solutions are the place that are 'local' for Dublin, they can fix/refurb diamond cut. Wheel Wizards wont be able to fix diamond cut, or at least they didn't have the machine for that last time I was there anyway.

    OP did you get a full sized spare when you bought the car?

    If not you could check the cost of repair versus a new rim plus tire and if the repair is too much keep this as the spare and buy a new rim and tire

    It's a spin, but Donegal Powdercoating do diamond cutting very reasonably.

    I don't live anywhere near Donegal, but have couriered several wheels to them now and they have great service and finish. That's a tricky wheel to get done i'd imagine due to the non-uniform polished/painted spokes. Should be about €80-€90 for a completely new look wheel, not a smart repair.

    Rim Solutions.
    I've seen their diamond cut refurbs and they're very good. About €100 would do it.

    Feel for you OP. Done same in Christchurch one.

    Fleet Street, Queen st (Smithfield) and Christchurch are the worst for that.

    Queen st going from -1 to -2 is tight but fine on way back out.

    Christchurch has high kerbs all the way around. Worst section is as you exit.

    I know the feeling,badly kurbed one of my Bbs wheels a few months ago,you could always keep an eye out for damaged cars for breaking,I know Gerlan car parts in Cork break quite a few newish' cars,you might pick up a wheel from either there or Meegans in Louth :)

    As it happens I spend one weekend a month in Letterkenny and Donegal powder coating are open on Saturdays. Impressive before and after pics on their Facebook page - I've messaged them with photos.

    Wheel wizards have good reputation. But I've yet to see a diamond cut refurb that stands up for more than a year. White worm is very common.

    Unfortunately very unlikely to be any 2017 3008s in the breakers yet as it's only just released. Donegal powder coating replied already!
    Hi yeah it's definitely repairable it's 95 per wheel for full refurb or 75 per wheel cut only and laquer

    I reckon I'll go with them.

    I'd urge you to sill price a new wheel, typically you will get 7-10 years from an oem finish if you are careful, you might only get one or two from the recut and lacquer so might be penny wise pound foolish

    Based on the Googling I've done I'd have to agree. The only online seller I could find had an OEM wheel for 200 euro which probably isn't too bad? I'll get a price from the dealer on Monday. Donegal powder coating only accept the bare wheel so would also have to factor in getting the tyre on and off. Decisions, decisions!

    They can and do last 7 years plus but I agree they are very fragile, I'm not a big fan of them! But the oem ones always tend to outdo the refubs by a considerable margin.

    Yeah, the corrosion can be a bit strange with how quickly or not it takes hold. My own experience with VW wheels is that they tended to corrode around the bolt holes more quickly than anywhere else (where they might have taken a light knock from a wheel brace). Maybe the lacquer was a bit thinner in that area. The design of the wheel is a factor too I guess. I know of lads who've had Golf GTI wheels replaced under warranty for it.

    Unpopular view on the motoring forum - but simply accept the fact that that's the way the car ages and sooner than later the second one will not be pristine.

    Before I took delivery of my car the wheels were covered in whiteworm and they were replaced under warranty as part of the deal. As you said, the majority of it was around the bolt holes.

    I use bilt Hamber auto wheel and a pressure washer to clean them rather than a brush therefor negating the chances of a brush digging at the lacquer. having them sealed helps the auto wheel do its job as nothing can adhere to the wheels.

    I always see facebook posts from the likes of Dent Pro , Dent 'n' Scratch Fix , Smart Repair who do mobile call outs and also repair wheels.. worth checking out

    Mobile callouts won't be able to do diamond cutting as the machine required is huge and in-situ only.

    www.dcwr.ie got back to me - they can fix it for €135 which includes the loan of a wheel. Anyone know anything about them? I'm waiting for a few more quotes. Donegal powder coating were cheaper but might be tricky to get the tyre off, bring the wheel to them and then get back to the tyre place all in the space of a single Saturday.

    If it's eur200 for a new wheel and you plan to keep the car a while, I'd just get the new one.

    Good point but would have to factor in getting G the tyre but on and balancing - probably wouldn't cost too much? First new car so might actually only keep for 2-3 years. I'll wait for a few more quotes and have a think about it.

    Price from dealer euro 370 Incl VAT but excl fitting :eek:

    The 200 euro price was from a Peugeot main dealer in Prague and based on dividing the price of a full set by 4 - I'm waiting for the to get back to me confirm the price of a single wheel. Good online reviews and some positive posts on the most popular UK Peugeot forum.

    I've seen Rim Solutions diamond cut refurbs first hand and it's excellent. They've a Facebook page with loads of photos of their work... I'd be inclined to go with them.

    Go with the cheapest option id say. Even if it didnt look like absolute perfection it should still be liveable with. At the end of the day the car will accumulate a few scratches and scuffs but as long as it doesnt jump out at you it should be fine.

    For the price of the repair you could have "3 strikes" before you get close to the dealers price for a complete new wheel.. which seems wasteful :)

    I scratched my alloy wheel yesterday with a pedestrian path. Please check the picture.

    Is it possible to repair it? Or what about using it the way it is now? Will it effect car in any way? It's a superficial abrasion and not a deep cut.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Easier to refurbish non diamond cut wheels like that. Won't cause any issues if it doesn't bother you.

    My friend told me salt will penetrate in it in winter and damage the whole alloy.
    Relieved now :D

    Outstanding job, fair play.

    It's so easy to do damage to alloys with the slightest touch and with a new car it feels like a right kick in the hole. I would have thought a possible replacement would have been on the cards but great work, good as new, not the easiest to fix given the design.

    Eera 95% of the cars in the country are going around with scuffs. The main issue is on Diamond cut wheels.
