Punchestown Week

Can't believe Punchestown is almost here. Just getting a change to look through the entries now, and there should be a few good and exciting races ahead. Getting a few days off work to enjoy the week! :D

Anyone here heading down? And has all the money been put on (or at least put aside) to add that little bit of extra excitement (or disappointment) to the race? Any fancies? And who's your money on to become Champion Trainer this season - Elliott or Mullins?

I have done the last 3 years, but giving this year a miss

Do you get a reciprocal day?

Would love to see Coneygree this year as I think he was the one missing from Cheltenham

Not a chance. I don't think he will jump off. Too high risk for a 5/2 shot

Yeah I'd be of the same side of the fence. My 5er EW on it for Cheltenham was enough on that horse this season for me.

If it wins I'll try not to be too disappointed

5/4 in powers with a jump off insurance

Better off waiting the 3 seconds to see if he jumps then put the bet on

If he jumps off will be 5/4 straight away. Exact thing happened in Cheltenham 40 into 10/1

Risky as I'm not sure he'll run but have backed Wicklow Brave at 25s with Boyles for Champion Hurdle. Bit of money behind him in the AP market in recent days- cut to 12s from 33s with Powers.
25s is a ridiculous price if he runs.

Will be interesting to see what price about Western Boy in the 3rd tomorrow. Well enough handicapped and might be worth a chance if price is big.

shhhhh.. Ive been waiting what seems years for him to finally run his race. He's a certainty at some stage. He's at least a stone well in when he is bothered.

First time missing P'town in 10+ years, and I moved to within 30 minutes of the track during the Summer

Yes, was running his race at last years festival and I am certain he was about to sluice up before falling. 6 of the first 7 home that day between 9lbs to a stone higher in the ratings today.
Powers have him up at 16s this minute.. I fancy we might get 20s so holding out till this evening.

Only thing to worry about is Pique Sous is even more well in. He could laugh at these

Labaik will run in the Champion Hurdle on Friday aswell I'd say because Elliott will need him for prize money. Scenes when he refuses tomorrow but jumps off on Friday and ruins them.

Going on Friday so hope this happens!

Anyway, Melon could turn out to be the better horse. Open to plenty of improvement and Ruby will have a better chance to dictate tomorrow. If Labaik was a guaranteed starter I don't think there'd be any difference in SP.

Could be two absolute machines I'd say tbh. Two totally unexposed animals that have pulled a mile clear off a fairly sedate pace in the Supreme. Think Melon was kind of ambushed by Labaik at Cheltenham, Ruby was taking pulls and thought he had it in the bag. If he could have it back he'd have made the running with a stronger pace. The horse is certainly open to a lot more improvement aswell like you say.

I'd back Labaik in the Champion Hurdle on Friday if he runs. I think he'd beat everything except Annie. Imagine if he chinned Annie. I'd be gutted for Annie and PMSL in equal measure. Complete banter horse.

Labaik beat Melon with loads left in the tank. Zilch chance he reverses form with the Fench Pegasus.

Did you miss the part where I said Labaik would beat everything except Annie Power?

I do think there is a strong argument for quite considerable improvement from Melon though.

Just saying. If he stays fit and well I would urge all to back him a fiver a week until next March for the Champ Hurdle.

Will they run Labaik on Friday after today?

Surely better going to England with him for big races next year. They are allowed wave the big whip at the horse when under starters orders to get the horse moving.

It worked a treat at Cheltenham.

They've nothing to lose by trying to get him to run on Friday - the season is over and he's a relatively fresh horse as he's refused to race in 4 of his last 5 starts. Should be banned but the rules are a joke.

Brings racing into disrepute imo, the fact he ''starting'' a mile behind is clearly not starting they are getting away with a technicality that needs closing.

Stewards should be given discretion to decide if a horse refuses to race or not.

Gordon Eliot is renowned throughout the industry for his 'outside the box thinking':pac:. If the horse is declared you can be assured that Eliot won't let the horse make a fool of him again. Expect a substitute for the Long Tom to make an appearance.

Jaysus I though jockeys only look behind them at the end of the race what was Ruby doing looking behind him after 100 yards :pac:

One way or another, he'll start...... Even if it's after the rest of the field have already gone a furlong.....

They should just bring in a rule that if you haven't started by the time the field have jumped the first, you're shit out of luck

Yep you'd think he'd turn up, will bolt up on friday if he runs against Death Duty, also on fox norton he was only a head from winning at 3 festivals some horse.
