Safe is really not worth it.. it's fun in a "soap-opera twists-n-turns generic ITV drama" type of way.

But the final few episodes where ridiculous plot lines just start coming out of the woodwork just ruins it. Michael C Hall and Marc Warren deserve better than this!

Went downhill rapidly after episode 5. :( Still sticking with it just to see who did what. One episode to go.....

I watched Quigley Down Under on Saturday night. It's a western with Tom Selleck in the title role as a marksman who takes a job in the Western Australian outback to shoot pests on a ranch. Turns out the pests in question are the local aboriginal population and Quigley is having none of it.

Left to die in the outback with nothing but a highly customised rifle and a mentally ill love interest he sets out to take down the evil rancher played by none other than Alan Rickman.

The film came out in between Die hard and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves so it's kind of the forgotten entry in the Alan Rickman bad guy canon. He doesn't get to chew the scenery up quite as much as those films though unfortunately but is still highly enjoyable in the role.

I only threw it on as I had vague memories of seeing it as a child and enjoying it. It still holds up reasonably well surprisingly enough. Despite the Australian setting it's a fairly traditional western and came out at a time they were rare and a couple of years before Unforgiven turned the genre on its head.

I've also had the music stuck in my head all weekend. Worth a watch if you want a bit of a throw back.

I caught Alex De La Iglesia's The Bar yesterday and enjoyed it; the plot is like a mix of Tower Block and The Crazies. There are good performances throughout and, as expected from De La Iglesia, good dialogue. The plot does wobble a bit in the third act, but not badly so, and it's made up for by things like the scene where the characters discuss several genre tropes that might explain what's happening to them, only to dismiss them by one person yelling at another to stop talking nonsense or he'll scare all the customers away from her bar :D

If you enjoy the likes of El Dia De La Bestia this is worth checking out. While Netflix don't have any of De La Iglesia's earlier films, they do also have his My Big Night from 2015 and his documentary about Messi. No interest in the latter but I will check out the former soon.

netflix buys “Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight,” in which the Academy Award-winning filmmaker will present a collection of personally curated stories that are described as both equally sophisticated and horrific

Trying to enjoy Happy at present.

3 episodes in and its not really doing it for me. OK so I know its going to be wacky stuff, but the acting, humour etc all seems a bit forced and OTT. Too much.

Not sure if I'll continue with it.

Even the bits with just the main character (minus the unicorn) and other human characters are too OTT too, thats maybe what I meant.

I will say that the dude playing Blue's hacky de Niro impression was annoying, but I thought Melloni was fantastic.

    Good show overall.

I get where he's coming from in terms of feeling forced and OTT. I didn't make it past the first episode yet. It just felt like a kid with ADHD after drinking four cans of Red Bull jumping up and down in the corner shouting 'Look at me!!! I' Wacky!!!'.

Yeahhh I dunno it's disappointed me too. I'm 6 episodes in and reluctant to finish it out.

Only have one epsiode of 'safe' to watch, its alright, but the amount of connections between characters is ludicrous.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for sci-fi space stories, but Lost in Space is surprisingly good. Very simple, straight-forward plotting that serves character, which feel refreshing compared to the convoluted puzzlebox plotting of Westworld etc.

No, I'm only 6 episodes into it but am enjoying it immensely; as you say it's refreshingly straightforward in its approach to its narrative. The kid characters skirt the line between charming and annoying, but not excessively.

Parker Posey is playing that character. I'm sure they thought that a stereotypical 1950s portrayal of a camp homosexual as the bad guy wasn't really going to play well with modern audiences.

    Bad guy?! I think you'll find he's an anti-hero :D

Enjoyed The Clapper. The funny, tragic and surreal world of Hollywood and TV and how ‘fame’ can affect the ordinary people exposed to it.

If you do watch it, watch the end titles too. There’s a bit at the end that will make you say ‘ah’.

Was similarly unimpressed, seemed like they were going for a cross between Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Ted, which on paper has potential, but it ended up feeling very predictable and flat to me

Found it quite boring to be honest, but then again I had just watched The Jinx which was fantastic in comparison
