Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What is normal for postdoc contract renewal applications

    Hi all,
I am keen to get your thoughts on a particular postdoc contract renewal practise. At a particular research institute, the department boss is asking for a postdoc working in the dept, who is seeking a renewal of a one year contract to send her all of their in prep and submitted papers. I know postdoc job openings sometimes request that an example of the candidate’s work is submitted but this is for someone already working in the dept. and the boss is asking to be sent every single paper, even work done years before in different labs that is still in manuscript form awaiting publication. Is this ok or odd?
Also, this was all requested by email. This procedure is not advertised in any departmental form or rulebook. Is that considered to be fine or unreasonable?

There is no "normal" in postdoc recruitment.

Is this person continuing in the same lab? Has the HOD a good rapport with the PI? Has there been issues in the lab previously regarding replication of results?

I have never been asked to submit to the HOD for contract renewal. However I reckon if certain previous members of staff were to reapply that there would be strict requirements.....

Yes same lab, and generally good rapport.

I understand in Ireland most postdocs are probably funded by national research bodies. In this case the decision is purely the decision of the HoD. They have a huge block grant and hires 5 or so postdocs at any one time.
I just feel its a practice that may fairly or unfairly be designed to harvest the candidates with the sexiest past projects or side projects. The original project the HoD proposed could in no way be done in the one year original contract so I though a contract renewal was assured.
