Upgrading old i5 2500K build

    Currently:
    i5 2500K (LGA1155 socket)
    8GB DDR3 1333
    GTX 970

So I'm wondering where would the best boost in performance come from?

Given the mobo is old. Do I need more than DDR3? What speed is ram at these days DDDR4/5/6?

If new RAM is needed then new mobo is a given then a CPU is also required.
Would like to keep the 970 for a little while as it was the latest upgrade made and have not used it too much.

Looking for a sweet spot for performance v $. Like back when we were buying the i5 2500K cos the i7 2700K was overkill and a few hundred quid more.

    Suggestions please and thanks

What you need it for? 2500k is still great cpu. I have my one for years and all I do is replqce gpus and add more ssds.
    Its 2500k 8gb ram, 256gb + 500gb ssds and 1060. All hooked up to 3440x1440 monitor.
    Playing all games very easily.
If I would be you, I would stick with it for a bit longer and built from ground up new system.

Biggest boost in performance is go to a 2600K or 3770K. Either should be around €150 2nd hand. Think there's a 2600K on adverts for €150, I'm sure he'd take a reasonable offer.
