Just to have something up here as the race approaches. Tom Boonen's last race, Sagan favourite. Could be a very open race. Then again maybe it won't.

Any ideas what the weather will be doing? Wet & muddy could be fun.

    Outside bet Luke Durbridge

Up to 20 degrees, dry with a tailwind for much it; I'm expecting an incredibly fast, chaotic and unpredictable race, in which case I haven't the faintest idea who will win.
Whoever doesn't crash or puncture will have a great chance!

Any radio coverage of this? Online stream or otherwise? Probably be in the car for most of the day tomorrow

And the wait continues for a wet Paris Roubaix. Hope Tom gets the fairy-tale end to his carrier.

    2nd. G.V.A.

    Here's the official map:
    414136.jpg

20% or so (55km) of the total distance is pave:

...and it comes thick and fast for the final two thirds of the race:

Eurosport have live coverage of the whole thing, I think, starting at 10:10am.

just did the course today. Nothing but respect for the professionals. it is impossible to explain just how hard the cobbles are to someone. it has to be experienced to be understood. All the books and websites I read... Nothing prepares you for the pain in the arms after that many cobbles.

+1 but I'd also like to see Sagan win

I'll go with GVA at 6-1

I do find it strange that Sagan is consistently the bookies favourite for Paris Roubaix yet he has never actually finished in the top 3 of the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭Malari

I'd like to see Greg van Avermaet doing it.

Don't want Boonen to win - then he'll come back next year :pac:

Sagan is ready........or is that Jennifer Aniston?

It's been a crazy fast start

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Not long until the first pave sector and still no breakaway...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,180 ✭✭✭carltonleon

Could be carnage on the cobbles with such a big peloton and no breakaway

All down to the fact that Heyman won from the breakaway last year. It's gonna be carnage on the cobbles now, someone would want to get up the road.

    3-rider breakaway have a 40 second lead!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 469 ✭✭Somedude9

And that's our breakaway. Unsurprisingly a few were finally let go, just as well too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

The peloton seems to have calmed down now and is spread across the entire width of the road. Good few riders taking on some subsistence.

    Big crash!

Apparently he's growing his hair for his new role as Cousin Itt Addams

Either way - must be favourite to take 2nd place today...

Jaysus that break didn't last long. Race is already on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Tony Martin has been at the front of the peloton for a long time. Given that his mouth resembles a basking shark, he must be inhaling monumental amounts of dust and dirt

Ah C*ap, GVA down and lost serious time

    Game Over for GVA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

GVA needs a bike change after a small accident.

Boonen trying to push on the peloton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

I don't think it's game over for GVA, but that's twice now that he's had to make his way back to the front of the peloton after two incidents.

And that's why it's Game Over

    and now has a puncture

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 469 ✭✭Somedude9

    Yeah you're right actually

Perhaps not, depends on the efforts he made to get back on, which I don't think were that great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

So easy to root for Sagan the way he rides, as with Boonen also of course. Both ride to hopefully win like a champion. And Greipel doing his usual gutsy all-in effort also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Did Sagan get a new wheel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

Did Sagan get a new wheel?

He certainly had a mechanical of some kind that quenched his attack.

Lots of riders in the mix as of now.

Very hard to pick who will win this...
So many big guns still in contention... Sagan, Boonen, GVA, Degenkolb, Greipel, Stybar, Trentin, Kristoff.

Did Sagan get a new wheel?

I think he's a neutral service wheel as the mavic motorbike was close to sagan as he start fish-tailing on the cobble section.

I could be wrong but that's how it looked

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 469 ✭✭Somedude9

All aboard the Sagan train :D

Again will he pay for doing all the work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Matt Haymen still up near the front also

Do you like being bossed around by a lady in various states of undress? Nearly as tasty as the 'cooking wevolution' of Bora....

    Meanwhile, back at the cycling....

Oss is doing a super ride
