CAD, Youtube, light gaming build help

1. What is your budget? €1500

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Used for work, Autocad (mostly 2D but a bit of 3D), Outlook, Excel, Word, and I always need firefox open at the same time. Along with some Youtube and gaming (Spintires, Motorsport Manager, Farming Simulator 17, Football Manager, Euro Truck Sim 2)

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes and Microsoft Office

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I have a DVD drive I can use

5. Do you need a monitor? Yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need. I use an AOC E2250Swdn at the moment (21.5") and would like it a small bit bigger maybe 23"

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? No

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Don't think so

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

You should also have a look at a Ryzen build. Might be a better fit.

The R7 1700 is a bit more expensive, but should give you way better performance in CPU intensive stuff, and about the same performance in games when you overclock it.

The motherboards (if you look at B350 ones) should be a bit cheaper, so it should pretty much even out.

This has been on the long finger, so I decided to look into a ryzen build like Serephucus suggested and picked out the following

And then i discovered it is impossible to find an RX580 8gb anywhere
So I might buy everything but the graphics card and wait until they're back in stock.

I'd prefer an AMD Card as i got the freesync monitor above already.

The only other thing I'm unsure about is the motherboard, can anyone suggest a good one? I'd prefer an X370 over a B370.
Maybe the ASUS X370 Prime PRO?

Just an FYI the AMD cards are sold out /overpriced everywhere as they are being used for crypto currency mining. Also Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics, so you will need a card of some sort, even second hand old card to get a display on the monitor.

Yes, so I've found out.

I didn't know about the lack of integrated graphics but I have a Geforce 210 that would get me by for a month or two.

If you can get a 27" 1440p monitor it will make a huge difference, the autocad toolbars take a big amount of screen realesate on a 1080p screen and the extra space on a 1440p screen is great

Yeah, I got an ultrawide 1440p screen makes a huge difference for cad (in fairness I'm rarely using it any more) GIS and even excel where you are using a lot of columns. Event document reviews, where you can have two windows open side by side, even three page width view is perfect, on the ultrawide anyways. But yeah, higher resolution in general helps with any spatial programs I find

I had been using Acad on a 22 inch 1080p monitor for years and based on the advice of the great guys here I upgraded to a 27 inch 1440p set up.

I could never go back! The percentage of the smaller screen that was taken up by toolbars now feels ridiculous. How I drew in that tiny little box I'll never know!!!

So beware - once you go bigger you'll never be able to go back!*

(* This advice may also be relevant for other things in life too!!!)

I only had a 21" monitor so the 24" is a nice step up.

There's also not that much space so around the desk so the 24" works fine.

You can get 25" 1440p screens as well
