    Hi,

So in the market for a new car and I'm hearing that white cars are becoming popular choice this year. Now while I do like the look of this particular car in white, I'm not sure I'm willing to commit.

Thoughts? How will I be perceived?

So your question is "are white cars cool?" :D
    What car is it specifically?
Are you willing to keep washing it all the time?

In South Africa they are very common and look good in the sun.
However, every little ding will stand out I find.
Scrapes from something else will leave a clearly visible discoloured line.

Are you really worried about how you will be perceived? Choose the colour you like the most, not what is acceptable by others.

    1. Accepted and not falling into tanned gangster look
    2. Seat Ateca ( makes the gangster look impossible)
    3. More so than I do now

    Is metallic still a thing?

White cars have been 'in' for years now, its probably even gone out of fashion at this stage.

White Seat Leon. Seems to be the only colour of that car

Personally, no i wouldnt get one - although the 600euro i will be paying when my new car is in stock is a tough one to swallow just because i don't want white!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,259 ✭✭✭chicorytip

Black is the worst. It makes cars appear smaller. OP, buy something in Silver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,225 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

White cars look fine once they've a decent spec. If I ever see a white saloon car that has a poor spec I often think it's an ex Garda car.
I wouldn't be a massive fan of silver either.
Probably the worst colour for me are those shades of brown!

Pearlescent option only in white and same price as metallic...and price is not the reason im considering white.

White is the colour fit for vans and it must be said tiny town cars like the Fiat 500, it becomes nothing else really.

Can you not see even after you voted?

Cry for help: Mods can you make the poll results visible?

Only "becoming popular this year"??? They've been ten a penny for the last few years.

Not a fan, personally, but that's mainly a hangover from a previous job where the entire company fleet was white and I still just associate them with pool cars.

No, just says Poll results hidden and 0% against each option. 33 people have voted at this stage

Whatever you buy don't get another gray or black car. It's depressing to see the sea of gray in every carpark especially on one of those gray days that occasionally exist in Ireland.

Grey cars are ugly but black is beautiful

I used hate grey cars until people started getting those crappy brown coloured ones!

Had white cars for nearly a decade. Changed this time as white seemed to be too common. Finding a big difference with a blue car, I have to wash it twice as often

I found white was easier to keep clean than black. If you like the vehicle in white get it in white. Don't care what anyone else thinks. You have to live with it and drive it :)

Get a white Hyundai or Avensis, park by the roadside and have fun watching all the traffic slow down.

The white today V's 20 years ago looks different. A lot of white cars now look more cream or oyster white as opposed to a stark white. I like a lot of the white cars that i see but Dacia white looks cheap compared to BMW white.

If i got a 2nd hand car in white at the right price, I'd take it but I think many others wouldn't- I think white, over and above other colours, limits your future buyer market, thus re-sale value. But if you think your car looks good in white, then certainly, buy it.

I hate white cars, especially SUV/Jeep type things.

Look like ****ing Fridge Freezers on wheels.

Funny, saw a white ioniq today with 'electric' badge on the back. First thought was fridge freezer!

Have a white new VW Tiguan. Looks good with full sunroof.

Ateca is very good in white too, also a metallic grey works with thus, in my opinion white is nicer, -'are you going for black or brown leather?

The whole thing about white cars being harder to shift is a myth, white was among the top colours sold in 2016.

Metallic silver or grey are best for keeping clean.

I like the brown, but my wife prefers black, so black it is :) ... if I get the white, i might upgrade the alloys given i'll be saving a few quid on the metallic paint :D

Interesting, the resale on the white is supposed to be good according to review websites. However the survey (so far) indicates only 35% would buy a white car.

35% is a large share in the market tough. I'd gladly but white but wouldn't buy brown or silver!

I like the brown too, but it is two tone so black is nicer. The upgraded alloys are good on it.

Saw a white ateca in our village tonight, it looked well

I've my Tiguan since Jan and I love it.

comfortline a good kit, sunroof gives loads of light.

    No regrets on white

Its a crystal finish - more expensive than white usually, looks well, but needs the sun

Pearlescent... my current car is this, usually the same price as metallic.

I think the 'stigma' about white cars here going back to the 80s/90s was because all Japanese imports were white... I recall when I was young people would not buy white as it would look like 'a cheap jap import'.

As people have mentioned already.. modern metallic and pearl whites and even the finish on flat whites are so far removed from that.. with some obvious exceptions (Dacia). Personally I like the look of white big saloons with dark alloys and tinted rear windows. A6 black edition etc.. in white looks great IMO.

White is something for vans and garda cars... Unless its metallic or pearl...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,280 ✭✭✭✭Eric Cartman

SUV's always look much better in black , especially with the privacy glass, even if it is a faux x 4

White and silver cars do nothing for me.

    .

The pearl white finish in Volkswagen Passat is significantly more than the metallic, something like 1280 for pearl white as a special order vs. 728 for the metallic colours.
