See the thread title where it said 'IFSC'? That should be a clue.....

Indeed, but as I pointed out, I was responding to a point made by another poster rather than the title of the thread......so not so much a "swing and miss" as a "no pitch"......if one were minded to stretch the baseball metaphor ;)

And that poster you really to was referencing IFSC VP jobs - anyway keep laughing away to yourself and swinging and missing.....

Says a lot about the calibre of PS employees - ex or otherwise .....

    Yeah, no worries.

Anyway, your original query related to "relationship management" and how to get into it.

My own role is client engagement, which, if it was a US operation, would likely carry a VP prefix, but it's a UK based firm so job titles are a lot more understated. Not precisely "relationship management" but there's a significant overlap and our offices are in the IFSC in order to be close to our main client base.

On the question of how to get into it, I'd say build your technical knowledge, then look for the opportunity to move into it. However, the technical knowledge is just one aspect. At that level the "softer" skills such as listening, analysing, problem solving etc become much more important.

The route I took was BSc, followed by an LL.B........several years working abroad......MBA (while abroad)......DBA.......back from abroad (to the PS)......establish professional profile.......selectively recruited for current role......

......can't say much of it was planned, beyond going for certain quals, but that's the way it's worked out.

    Good luck in your endeavours.

Have an interview for a Client Management roll with Citi next week. Any tips?

I was sent that spec by a recruiter a couple of weeks ago. If its the same company who sent it to you, be very careful.

I applied for a job previously though them. Met the guy a few days before the interview, he tried to convince me that we had agreed on a desired salary (we didn't come close) and he said he had already submitted it to the employer, so if I changed my figure it would look bad on us both.

He then told me that he thought they had already decided to promote someone internally, and seemed to lose interest. I had the interview, and literally never heard from him or the company again. I didn't want the role after the interview so I didn't follow up, but to hear "I'll get you an update asap" and then never hear again was enough for me to avoid them like the plague in future.

    Good luck

Did you get the job OXO?

Those high paying jobs are few and far between. Most IFSC jobs are in support roles providing a service to core operations in places like London or New York and wouldn't be particularly highly paid. Anyone I know who's earning six figures is working in a highly specialised and pressurised role and have transferred back to Dublin from London.

There are tonnes of people in the hedge fund admin places earning 6 figure salaries that never left Dublin , 100k is not a large salary for someone experienced working in finance

A decent grasp of grammar usually helps too.

I was adding to your advice to the poster you quoted, whose CV would be going straight in the bin based on his post.

IT? Project Managers with that experience will easily earn that number.

Aye i'd say as a PM you could hit that figure in Dublin.... in my experience the ones i've worked with were useless and do really noting schedule makers and not hands on at all... in my experience they are just another level of bureaucracy slow whole projects down to a crawl with red tape..maybe because the are getting paid per the project.

Like most jobs in Dublin if you have experience you can jump ship to other companies every 4 years or so and get some more cash i guess...

100k isn't that much if you are smart enough and properly qualified. A good fund accountant with big 4 experience could easily hit 100k within 10 years.

they should be on 60-70 within 3/3.5 years (i.e. first job post big 4 contract)

Well I think some of these ifsc relationship manager jobs are not formally qualified

thats less and less likely now, would have been the case back when the industry was new.

Not only IFSC. Any niche market will pay more than market rates. Must be 20+ PMs in my place on €700 a day. 220 working day per annum contracts & they're taking home a gross of €150+k a year. Decent accountant will see you take most of that home.

My former boss left us at €180k to go to a Greenfield at €330k with a four year contract. Was in programme management. Wa good at his job though & could tell what management wanted to hear.
