    Hi,
I am interested in beginning a calisthenic group in the Cork City/suburb area preferrably at an outdoor location. I am a beginner to calisthenics but would enjoy starting this with a group of people of any fitness level/calisthenic experience who would like to train weekly and help eachother out and have a bit of fun! Have been looking around the place for outdoor spots and have found blarney playground to be the best so far! They have monkey bars/lower bars for aussie pull ups and i think bars that could be used for dips... Anyway it would have to be at a time that wouldnt interfere with kids being around obviously and any info on another better spot let me know :)

    Hi Caliq

As far as I know there are no such groups in cork at the moment however I train heavily in calisthenics / gymnastics and can offer you some advice. Check out the barmonkey guys two groups in Dublin and Galways are a calisthenic group and have been around for a while and run competitions etc.

Dont worry too much about parks I am a tall bearded hobo looking guy the nice thing about calisthenics is that when people see you doing handstands or pushups etc they normally dont mind or get interested. I really strongly advise getting some decent wood rings as you can set them up anywhere you want. Also if you had to get one book on calisthenics get overcoming gravity it will cover everything you might need.

Feel free to drop me a pm for any help I can offer be happy to. I tend to go down to west cork a fair bit so happy to sort some meet up sometime too.

I will be setting up a facebook pg in the meantime to try and get as much demand for a park in the cork area so I might be able to make a proposal to city council if there is interest... ill drop ya a pm in the meantime would be great to have a session next time your down and get much needed tips! Happy to help. Dont worry about the strength for the rings thats why you get them you can get a decent pair on amazon for 20-30 quid so well worth it. Even just using them or regular pull ups etc is handy. There are also a few gyms that do a lot of calisthenics in cork Aclai comes to mind.
