Grange's April 2017 summary

Extremely dry and dull.

Rainfall: Extremely dry. Driest since 2007 and second driest on record.
I recorded a rainfall total of only 7.2mm (8% of the LTA) during April 2017 which made it the second driest on record and only April 2007 was drier. This was the second successful extremely dry month of 2017 with January being the other (which was also my second driest on record). April had 8 wet days (days with 0.1mm or more) which meant that it had 22 dry days (days with 0mm of rainfall). This included a full dry week from the 4th-11th which was my longest dry spell since last November/early December. My highest daily rainfall was only 1.9mm on the 1st and 30th which was my second lowest April maximum daily rainfall on record, again 2007 had even lower. Nothing much to speak about than that to be honest. It was a very boring April in terms of rainfall as even though it was extremely dry, there weren't any very long dry spells without wet days because the wet days kept coming and going through the month.

Temperature: Average April. Nevertheless, still the warmest since 2014.
I recorded a mean temperature of 8.5c which is equal to my April LTA. There were some warm days and some cold days during April so it's not particularly surprising that the mean temperature is average overall. I recorded my maximum temperature of 18.6c on the 8th which was my highest for April since 2015. I recorded my minimum temperature of -1.7c on the 26th. However, despite this "Arctic Blast" around the 25th/26th giving away to those cold nights, April 2016 still recorded lower minimum temperatures leaving April 2017 in the dust of boring :cool:. Maximum temperatures and minimum temperatures were both around average for April so nothing exciting to speak of. April 2017 is my most average April for temperatures in my records so far. It is very forgettable as a result.

Sunshine: Exceptionally dull. Equal-second dullest on record.
I recorded a sunshine total of 112 hours (68% of the LTA) which made it my equal-second dullest April on record with 1991 and only 1992 was duller. It's interesting how sunny April 2007 was (the current driest April on record) and how dull April 2017 was (the current second driest April on record as I mentioned), they're contradicting one another in terms of sunshine. It's also very interesting how April 2016 was sunnier than average, therefore sunnier than April 2017 yet it was a very wet month. The first half was much sunnier than the second half with 78 hours and 33 hours respectively. I recorded my sunniest day on the 8th with 12.8 hours, a pretty average daily maximum sunshine for April and very forgettable. I recorded only 3 very sunny days (days with 10 hours or more) during April 2017, my lowest since April 1992.

All in all, not a good April despite being very dry. I want to completely forget about this April and hopefully April 2018 will be much sunnier.
